Saga Collection '06 / Re: TRU Exclusive Endor AT-AT

I was planning on buying this either way.  I've just always had a thing for the vehicles, and I like the new deco job.  The revamped Scout Trooper is just that much more of an incentive to buy this piece.

Zach also added that  "The voters were overwhelmingly in favor of the expanded universe characters, and not the minor characters from the original trilogy. Hermi Odle, for instance? Not a winner."  Sorry to rain on the parade of all the stalwart Ice Cream Maker Guy supporters.

Overwhelmingly? That's a surprise... No OT winners, then? I'll be disapointed if this is true.

And no PT winners either.  I was genuinely surprised to see that it was such an EU lovefest.

Congratulations Jeff, and happy birthday to both of the young ones.  Looks like you and the Mrs. have taken a big step into a larger world.  All the best to you and your newly enlarged family.

Toy Reviews / Re: New JD Review: R5D4
« on: July 6, 2006, 05:13 PM »
Solid review.  Especially the details.  I've been a big fan of the astromech figures for some time.  I was somewhat irked that the R4-G9 body wasn't used for R5-D4.  A number of droid collectors regard the R4-G9 sculpt as one if not THE best astromech sculpt ever.   But being familiar with the wide range of astromechs, I understand the reason for the choice of the modified VOTC R2-D2 sculpt.  R4-G9 as well as R4-P17 and other R2 units that were in the Astromech 5-packs all had the same action feature.  As you would twist the dome, the center leg would retract into the body of the droid.

Where R5-D4 differs is that Hasbro decided to make the "bad motivator" feature.  By twisting the dome, you get the motivator popping out, and it's appears that because of that function that R5-D4 wasn't based on the R4-G9 sculpt.  The two features wouldn't work with one another, so I can see why Hasbro opted for the sculpt they chose.

As for the accessories?  Meh.  I think that this issue really needs to be addressed from the standpoint of scene specificity.  We never see R5-D4 using any of the utility arms, so I don't see where this is a big deal.  As for accessories, it might have been nice to have a small Jawa packed in with this droid, but then again it would be nice too if I won the lottery.

It was a really bright yellow and blue, not the tan uni.

Saw a really weird colored Sentry this morning.  It wasn't like either the regular or variant Sentry I have.  Strange.

Five now.  Scored two of those this morning.  The thing that I'm really liking about these is the ball jointed head.  I can pop the heads and swap the pauldrons from the Evolutions Sandtroopers with these Sandtroopers.  It makes the ranks look a little more diverse.

I'm still confused on something: Where exactly did Hasbro say that BPs next year would be four figures and an accessory rather than five figures with accessories?  I'm just wondering where this was definitively stated and, if not, how this was inferred.  With recent comments about the box size being the thing that dictates what gets packed in the box, I don't see how many of these larger accessories (some of which, mentioned in other threads like the Geonosian Sonic Cannon) could even fit when taken apart.

It was mentioned in the Rebelscum article that purportedly listed so much of the 2007 line.  So it's certainly not definitive until Hasbro has their say.

$405 and climbing.  And this one still hasn't met it's reserve.  ::)

Why didn't I get this when it first came out?!

Gentle Giant / Re: Gentle Giant Busts

I didn't even get offered that much.  My order wouldn't even go through.  Had to resort to ePAy to get my BHS.

I'm glad to see that GG is TRYING to make good with people.  But in reality they should have known better than to offer an exclusive SW mini-bust in an edition size of 1,000 pieces.  I'm wondering now what kind of horror show the Mara Jade bust is going to be with an edition size of 2,000 pieces.   As for the Shock Trooper?  Hopefully GG can get the right computer assets in place for the pre-order system they're talking about.

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: Rouge Squadron helmet pics?
« on: July 4, 2006, 12:27 AM »
I need a little pic help here if anyone can help. Im looking to find some reference pics for the helmet decos on various Rouge pilot helmets.

Nothing personal, but I see this A LOT on a number of message boards...

CAN WE ALL LEARN HOW TO SPELL THE WORD ROGUE, PLEASE?!?!?!  After all, they didn't have Rouge squadron flying an attack run while Mascara squadron was flying high cover.  ;D

He broke out the wah-wah pedal at the Garden.  It was amazing when they played "White Room" and "Tales of brave Ulysees".  But I agree, it was sorely missing from both the CD and DVD of the shows at the Royal Albert Hall.

Even if they added articulated elbows to that RFT, it still sucks by today's standards.  In 2001, I thought it rocked.  But now, this figure needs a resculpt so badly.

The RFT was a great improvement on it's previous version.  The POTF2 version was utter dreck.  When the POTJ version came out it was a great step in the right direction.  And I think I understand Hasbro's statements about it in the most recent Q&A.  Late next year or perhaps in '08 this would be a great trooper to revisit.  But in actuality, I think the Hoth Rebel Trooper needs revisiting much more than the RFT.

As for the lineup, I think the following is likely...
Darth Vader
Rebel Fleet Trooper
Captain Antilles
