This is pretty cool. Not $30 cool, but still cool.

The Wookiee Arcade / X-Wing/TIE Fighter Rerelease?
« on: October 27, 2014, 09:58 PM »

Special downloadable versions of both X-Wing and Tie Fighter will soon be released on Good Old Games. They'll be $10 each.

For that price you're getting not just the special editions of the games (which had slightly higher resolutions and improved sound, as well all of both games' expansions), but more importantly they'll be editions of the games that will run on a modern PC without the need to tinker.

I don't think I've played these games in around 15 years so I'm definitely in.

MTV has revealed the first 2015 LEGO Star Wars set, the Wookiee Gunship

75084 Wookiee Gunship
Protect Wullffwarro and his Jedi friend, Kanan Jarrus, with the powerful LEGO® Star Wars Wookiee Gunship. As featured in the Star Wars: Rebels animated TV series, this amazing battle-ready craft has loads of weapons to see off any invading force, like movable front cannons and an elevating top cannon. When the action really heats up, raise the wings into attack mode and unleash the never-before-seen rapid shooters! If you run low on ammo, open the side hatches to access the spare supply, then lower the rear bay door and unload the mobile gun post. Includes 4 minifigures with assorted weapons: Wullffwarro, Kanan Jarrus and 2 Wookiees. Available January 2015, 570 pieces, $69.99.

I'm guessing this is something from the Rebels cartoon?

Star Wars Universe / Disney to Purge Select EU
« on: January 12, 2014, 05:53 PM »
So according to this article, Disney is going to spend the next several weeks and months trimming the fat off the EU, so to speak, by reorganizing what is and is not canon.

I think this is a good idea for the most part. I'm only familiar with a few items from the EU but a lot of it was pretty dumb from what I've read on Wookieepedia (Clone Emperor, Ken Palpatine, Yuzzhan Vong, etc). On the other hand if they decide to axe stuff like Thrawn, Shadows of the Empire, Rogue Squadron and KOTOR I'll be a little bummed since those were pretty good EU projects and seem to be enjoyed by pretty much all Star Wars fans.

Any specific EU you want Disney to axe or keep around?

The Wookiee Arcade / Rogue Squadron 15th Anniversary
« on: December 3, 2013, 05:52 AM »
I stumbled on a discussion on another forum discussing how Christmas 1998 was the peak of the Nintendo 64, with some of its best games being released during that time period. Most were mentioning Zelda: Ocarina of Time or WCW/nWo Revenge but nobody brought up my personal favorite, Rogue Squadron. Quick check of Wikipedia confirms it came out the first week of December, so I figured I would make a nostalgia thread about the game. Hard to believe it's already been 15 years!

I played RS before I played any of the X-Wing/TIE PC games so it was my first experience with a Star Wars flight sim game. I got the game for Christmas in 1998 and played it for months on end. It had all the levels from the movies, well, Hoth and the first Death Star, and lots of EU goodness. I still remember sometime in 1999 when they announced they had hidden a code in there that would unlock a Naboo Starfighter. Looking back it's pretty incredible they were able to keep that a secret for roughly 8 months.

We got two sequels for the game too, both on Gamecube. RS2 was pretty good, but RS3 was sort of a bust. They tried some new things but everything ultimately came up flat. I'm still hoping EA or whoever makes SW games decides to revisit the concept sometime in the future. Imagine RS with an online dogfight mode? I'd play it!

Jocasta's Reading Room / Star Wars: Dark Times Comic
« on: July 21, 2013, 11:24 AM »
This is a new series that debuted last week, and I flipped through it and saw that it looks to take place between ROTS and ANH, as Vader is hunting down Jedi with the 501st Clones, there's one Imperial Class Star Destroyer among the Venator Class Star Destroyers, etc. Seems the story is about a band of rebels trying to recruit a Jedi to help them set up a trap to kill Vader. Pretty cool intro issue.

On sale July 18!

The figures are awesome but the model looks like crap. I'll definitely have to customize it a bit.

The Bullpen / Wolverine Toyline
« on: June 5, 2013, 03:06 PM »
Spotted some Wolverine figures at TRU today that I had never seen or even heard of before. Did some digging and EE has pics of the wave here. Comic Tiger Stripe Wolverine, Logan, a Ninja and Silver Samurai. 5 POA turds not unlike everything from the Iron Man 3 line. TRU wanted $10 a figure too so everything was an easy pass.

In short, another "awesome" Hasbro toyline that's dead before it even starts.
