Modern Classifieds / WTB: Santa Yoda and/or 2003 MOTU Roboto
« on: October 6, 2003, 02:21 PM »
Updated, thanks to JediMAC, I should be getting caught up with most of my Star Wars figures needs.  However, I am now looking to buy a Santa Yoda (as well as Roboto).  I did get my lightspeed pass on Monday, however, my wife and I only have a Discover credit card...which they do not accept....I was wondering if anyone out there who might not be ordering/needing all four for themselves might be able to order one for me.  I'd be happy to pay full price, shipping, etc.  Thanks for any help.  Also, still looking for 2003 MOTU Roboto, if anyone happens across one.

Power of the Jedi / 25th Anniversary Sets - Opened or Boxed?
« on: October 6, 2003, 12:52 PM »
I was curious how many of you have your 25th Anniversary sets displayed.  Personally, I open everything I buy...figures, ships, beasts, etc....but for some reason I have left these boxed so far.  I guess I just like how they look in the packaging.  But, I have been thinking about opening them up for space reasons as well.  How do you have yours displayed....and if you do have them opened up, are they able to be opened in a way that you could put them back in the box if you wanted to?  Thanks!

Saga '02-'04 / Any Purchases You Regret?
« on: October 6, 2003, 11:18 AM »
After recently reorganizing my collection a week or so ago, I got to looking at some of my figures, and kind of wondering why I bought a few things.  Do any of you have any purchasing regrets....whether it be that you overpaid for a certain item in retrospect, or you maybe purchased a figure because it was the ONLY new thing you have seen in months, or maybe a certain figure was an "impulse buy"?  I noticed a few figures that I had purchased that ended up being either packed away, or tucked in the back of the display it seems.  Here's a few that caught my eye, personally:

"Total Control" Mace Windu - Ok, it is kind of fun to play with, and honestly, I never would have gotten this figure but for the fact that I hadn't seen anything for awhile, and I had read quite a few reviews from people saying it wasn't that bad, and was pretty fun to play with.  I only paid retail for it, but looking back now, and with the space issues I have, it probably wasn't necessary.

Anakin vs. Geonosian Deluxe - This was one of those periods where I hadn't seen much new for awhile, and I was still all hyped up from Episode II.  I really don't know why I bought this...the Anakin is horrible, and I don't even have either of these figures displayed now.

Jedi Council Yoda - I buy every Yoda figure pretty much, since he's one of my I guess in some ways I don't regret it...but looking at the figure now, it just doesn't seem like that great of a figure...and a rehash to boot anyways.

Tusken w/ Massiff - Ok, not a horrible figure, but it is tucked back behind the Republic Gunship right now due to lack of room.  Also, another rehash...and the newer Saga version of the Tusken (removable head one), is so much better IMO.

C-3PO with Removable Panels - Again, not terrible I guess...has some fun "play value" to some extent.  I am always a sucker for characters that were in the OT as well too...but this is another figure that gets "tucked to the back"

For a non-Saga example: I once paid $20 for an Episode I Obi-Wan (soft goods skirt), only to see this figure at K-B about two weeks later for $1.99.  Ouch :).

Since this is getting long, a few others that get "tucked away":

4/23 Padme Arena
OPD Anakin
Geo Rescue Mace

Anyways, have any of you ever experienced any situations like this?

Watto's Junk Yard / Something Fun For Fans of LOTR and Middle Earth
« on: October 1, 2003, 10:05 AM »
I originally saw someone post this on the RS forums, but thought I'd bring it over here.  Its a site that generates your "hobbit" or "elven" names.  I thought it might be fun to see what everyone's names turned out to be.  For me its:

Hobbit: Todo Burrows of Tuckborough

Elven: Maeglin Eledhwen

Here's the links, by the way:

Saga '02-'04 / Random Thoughts
« on: September 30, 2003, 02:45 PM »
This past weekend I picked up some new display shelving for my collection (thanks to some advice from dustrho..thanks!), and had the chance to look over my collection as I took the figures down, and then put the display back up when I was finished.  I actually have enough room now for all of my collection, ships, figs, etc.  A few things that I noticed while I was looking at the different characters and how to set them up...and this just my opinion.  In many cases, most of the figures prior to POTJ don't seem to look "quite" right with the newer offerings (POTJ, Saga, etc.).  That is, with the exception of the commtech wave.  There are certain other exceptions as well, and I'm not saying all of the POTF2 figures are bad...because they aren't....but they just look...different in some way.  I think sculpting has advanced a little since that time, particular with POTJ, some of Saga, and what we have to look forward to next year.

Also...there are times I wish that things were like the vintage days from the standpoint that each character had only one version in a particular outfit.  Although it is totally my fault because I bought them, the display seems to look strange when you try to set up the Geonosian battle, and have three Jangos to use, in essentially the same outfit.  Same with some of the Anakins (HD, Tatooine, Secret Ceremony), and the Maces (yikes...lollipop, screaming, and deluxe...the deluxe is actually my favorite).  I do realize at the same time that we need to have main characters in the line, and when sculpting has advanced quite a ways...and I get excited when we see new versions coming out (such as 2004 Hoth Luke, Jedi Luke, 2003 Hoth Han, etc.)  That is a little different to me because I usually replace the older, POTF2 versions with the better versions.

Finally, there are still a few that need to be re-done.  I really think that an OT-era Yoda could be remade now, with the sculpting/technology that is available.  The POTF2 ones just don't look overly great to me, although they were nice at the time.  And also, I have to say looking at what is coming in 2004, I am very excited.  Like many of you, I prefer figures this way...similar to what POTJ offered us.  I am very happy to not see any buttons on my figures, and to see them very well sculpted, painted, in some cases a nice base, and articulated well for who the character is.

Anyways, sorry this is so long...I had a break at work here to type something up, so I took the opportunity.  Some of this stuff has been discussed before I know, but these were just some thoughts that crossed my mind when I had some time to spend looking at my collection this weekend, and I felt like posting to see if any of you felt the same way, or differently.  I needed to see what some people's opinions are, other than my wife...who is abundantly supportive, but isn't quite as in to these types of discussions :).  Thanks for letting me rant....looking forward to collecting in 2004!  Feel free to post any of your thoughts on this, or anything else!

I was curious which of the figures lines (if any, or all) from Clone Wars that you are thinking about, or currently collecting?  I had first planned to collect these figures as I see them in the stores only, and actually saw my first basic CW figure this weekend (Anakin only).  I had already bought a Screen Scene and Hoth Han, so I ended up skipping it for, Anakins never seem too tough to find.  Anyways, now with the announcement of the animated line (which I am kind of excited to see), are you going to wait and collect only that line?  Are you going to collect only the current Clone Wars line of product (which I believe is done by the end of the year or so?), or both (or none)?  I was just curious.  I have been thinking about holding off for the animated line, but since they are a Target exclusive, they may be tough to find, we'll see.  Just looking for opinions...can't wait for the cartoon "micro-series" to start.

The Prequel Trilogy / New Spoilers at TF.N
« on: September 26, 2003, 12:47 PM » posted some new spoilers from their "insider" Darth Friday.  Some of these are pretty interesting, and pretty big....including talk of a death of a major character.  Even though this is the spoiler thread, I figured I'd post the link by itself just to be safe.  As always, we should probably take these with several grains of salt, but its interesting discussion none the less.  Also, if this should be merged with the other spoiler thread, I'm sorry... I wasn't sure if that was the "definitive" one or not.

Other Toy Lines / Thundercats, Hoooo!!
« on: September 23, 2003, 03:42 PM »
At least that is what I remember the battle cry being :).  This was another toy/cartoon from the 80s that came up when my friend and I were talking about our childhoods the other day.  Did any of you have these figures as a kid (or even now)?  For some reason, I only had/have Panthro, who was my favorite...not sure why I didn't have more, I remember watching this show all the time (as well as another show called Silverhawks)...maybe it was just bad timing.  Anyways, I remember Cartoon Network used to show this show once in awhile when I was still in college...wouldn't mind seeing it make a comeback ala MOTU.  Anyways, I was just curious if anyone else remembers/liked this toy line/cartoon...and thought we could discuss it here.  I wouldn't mind seeing the toyline make a comeback in the Four Horseman style, although I don't know if I could afford buying would still be cool to see :).

Other Toy Lines / Does Anyone Remember "Gobots"?
« on: September 23, 2003, 03:13 PM »
Although I know they were pretty much a ripoff of Transformers, a friend of mine and I were talking about toys we had when we were growing up, and the Go-Bots came up in conversation.  Although I had Transformers too, I do remember having quite a few Go-Bots (probably because they were cheaper for my parents to get me for presents).  I even remember having some sort of a command center that many of them fit in.  It just got my nostalgia going and wondering if anyone of you had (or have) these.  They were a lot of fun for my friends and I back in the day.  I remember "Turbo" being my favorite.  Here is a site I came across while looking some information up (I'm sure there are some better ones too).  Just curious if any of you had/have these:

Saga '02-'04 / First Look at Jabba at GH
« on: September 20, 2003, 05:59 PM »
Galactic Hunter has posted the first picture (a fairly blurry one) of the upcoming Jabba the Hutt.  Kind of hard to tell exactly what it looks like from the picture, but we shouldn't have to wait too much longer to see it in the next issue of Insider.  Anyways, what do you guys think?

The Prequel Trilogy / A Few Episode III Pics (From TF.N forums)

Just happened to be strolling through's forums, and someone had posted this link, which has a few Episode III pics in it (including one of Anakin).  Sorry if you've already seen this, just thought I would post it just in case.  I'm getting psyched for this movie already, and we have such a long wait!

Saga '02-'04 / Anyone Use Entertainment Earth for Preorders?
« on: September 15, 2003, 05:06 PM »
I was just curious if any of you have or will use Entertainment Earth for any Star Wars preorders.  I personally have never ordered from them, but after seeing a post in another thread about preordering upcoming figures (such as Hoth Luke, etc.), I went to their site to check them out.  The only preordering I have ever done is this year through Kebco, and they didn't end up getting their cases (which is not their fault from what I have read).  But, although I am not usually impatient, I did preorder the figures in March, and still don't have them...but then again I haven't seen them in stores either.  I guess I just was wondering if any one service is better than the other, or if any of you have switched.  I know if you visit, they seem to get theirs from EE pretty quickly to review, etc., but maybe that is because of sponsorship or something too.  Anyways, I have heard in the past that their prices are high, but I see now in some instances they offer figure sets instead of whole cases, which would be pretty nice if the price isn't too bad.  Anyways, I was just curious if anyone has used them, and how you would rate their service (pricey? speedy? etc.)?  Thanks for any advice.

Saga '02-'04 / How Goes the Hunt?
« on: September 15, 2003, 04:08 PM »
Just curious how everyone's Star Wars hunts have been going lately.  It seems like there have been a few more reports here and there of people finding newer (or at least 2003) stuff in stores lately, as well as some things being offered online (specifically  What have you been able to find lately (if anything)?  Personally, this is what has been showing up around here as of late:

I saw my first 2003 figures near me the other day, seeing the research droids, DF Padme, and a repackaged KE Jango.  I didn't get any of them, already had the Padme from Kebco.  Also, found the Clone Wars 3-packs at a Target, picked up the blue clone one.  My brother (who lives about an hour away) found WA-7, repacked Vader, Emperor, Dannl Faytonni, Coleman Trebor, and Wat Tambor for me, which I was pretty happy about.  I also got notification that my Battle of Hoth has shipped from  Otherwise, I personally haven't seen a whole lot of new product, but a few things are trickling here and there...or at least within a couple of hours I guess.  I have also seen many of the Clone Wars ships (Gunship, Jedi Starfighter, AAT).  Still waiting on preorders through Kebco for Hoth Han (the figure I probably want the most from this year), Mynock Chewie, Yoda/Chian, Ashla/Jempa, TR Luke and Vader, and the Snowtrooper.  Hopefully they will get their shipment in soon.  I've also considered preordering Aayla and Barriss, since they have them up again, although I'm currently holding out hope that I can get them for retail (yeah right). are things going for you?  I hope you are all finding what you are looking for.

Other Toy Lines / Taking a Look at the Toy Aisle...
« on: September 15, 2003, 10:46 AM »
Over the past week or so, I had the chance to visit a few different retail/toy stores and take a look at the toy aisle.  I thought it might be nice to have a thread to discuss current setups and/or trends in the toy aisles in your respective areas.  As far as what I saw around here (I visited 2 Wal-Marts, 2 Targets, a TRU, and K-B), here are a few observations:

Star Wars:  Wal-Marts were set up as we heard, basic figures only, six well as lightsabers.  Unfortunately, most was old product, although one store did have the research droids and DF Padme.  Targets didn't have much for basic figures (actually a new Greatland Target that opened about a month ago has been pretty good about toys, found the Scenes there a couple weeks ago, but now they have Clone Wars ships, red clonetroopers, and some empty space.  TRU pegs have been packed with Pilot Jangos for months, although they do have the Officer/Han/Lando 12" wave there, as well as Luke/Sidious/Obi Unleashed.  KB doesn't have any new product, just the four packs, $1.99 2002 figures, etc.

Other Observations...

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is really getting a lot of space in the stores around here.  Is it because they are being pushed hard, selling well, or both?  I had a few of these back in the day, but I'm not collecting the current line.  Too bad though, looks like you could find about all of them right now, wouldn't that be nice with other lines? :)

MOTU has been the same for the most part around here, 1 Target and 1 Wal-Mart have completely dropped the line for now, the other two still have it...with mostly older figures.  I'm hoping Roboto will show up in the stores.  Overall though, the line doesn't have a whole lot of space, probably average.

Surprisingly, it doesn't seem like LOTR has a whole lot of room, but this will probably increase as ROTK gets closer.  TRU had mostly ROTK Smeagol/Gollum repacks, and one of the new Treebeards (as well as several figures from the other movies).  Target has the first wave of ROTK figures, as well as some AOME stuff.  Wal-Marts around me didn't really have much representing this line, just a few figures here and there.  K-B about the same.

Marvel Legends...I was so happy when my wife found me Gambit and Beast right when they were released (around my b-day), but this weekend I saw almost every wave of ML so far in mass.  I didn't see a whole lot of Gambits, but everything else was pretty plentiful (I didn't dig for chase figures or anything like that though).  Hopefully it will be as easy to find Colossus, etc. in Dec/Jan whenever these come out.

Well, there are other lines to discuss as well, but this is getting long enough.   I just think it is interesting sometimes to see how much space is taken up by certain toy lines, what "seems" to be selling, etc.  I guess I was most surprised by the big space TMNT has at these stores...not that I have any problem with that line, I was just a little surprised.  They seemed to have the most space of any individual line by far around here.  Any other observations?
