The Vintage Collection / Re: TVC and Tariff Pricing
« on: April 22, 2025, 02:03 AM »
Amazing preorders will be interesting to watch… like you said they offer a guarantee but I have a hard time believing there won’t be a limit for them on what they’re willing to absorb if the prices really do jump 100-plus percent.

Certain types of goods and companies have been getting tariff exemptions, I wouldn't be surprised to see some of those just so happen to fall Amazon's way... but who really knows, this could all change again tomorrow.

Who knows where we are headed... I am definitely expecting my collecting habits to change significantly over the next four or so years. Depending on the final price increases, I'll likely cut back on army building and stop buying extras.

TV-9D9 / Re: Maul - Shadow Lord (Disney +)

I would have to go back and rewatch, which I probably won’t, but I feel like between Rebels and Clone Wars they pretty much filled up all of the time gaps with Maul so I’m not sure where this could be set or how interesting it could be plot wise, but I’ll def check it out.

IIRC, it's close to 10-year timeline gap between the end of Clone Wars when Maul escapes from Ahsoka & the post-credit scene in Solo when we first see Maul again, having once again reestablished himself as a leader in the criminal underworld. After Solo, it is another 6-8 years or so until Maul reappears to Ezra outside the Sith Temple on Morriban in Rebels, having lost everything. So aside from the one brief check-in over a 16-year period, we don't really know any specifics about what he was up to during the "Rise of the Empire" period. I think there is a good amount of story potential there.

This is a great-looking set. I might even want to grab two.

Available for Premium Members now.

Guess I'll check back in an hour or so.

That one hour delay for the common folk is maybe the dumbest "value" I've ever seen someone try and monetize with a premium membership.  Hasbro marketing should be ashamed of their stupidity.

... But ... it makes me feel so special when no one else does ...   :'(

 :D

Jk, It is pretty silly. The "free" shipping is ok, even though Premium is essiantiall just paying a flat yearly upfront fee that essentially equates to discounted shipping on each order. With the Haslabs and a few of the Pusle exclusives I order enough that the premiums saves me a few bucks a year on shipping, but there is really zero value to it beyond that.

I ended up ordering two Banthas to start with.

I was wondering where this one was, and I apparently never preordered it, whoops.

$17.99 each @ EE currently, waiting on the JD links to order.

I ended up grabbing the case of 8, plus an extra Crosshair, Merrin, Gideon, & 5 extra Rocket Troopers. :)

I am still a bit hesitant with Disney's production track record to get too excited here, but that sounds potentially promising. Fall isn't so far off, but a lot can happen before then. We will see if the cast/crew remain intact or if the writer/director are replaced 5 times and production is delayed indefinitely...

Awesome news. This is great for Sam, and great for us. I am really looking forward to seeing that storyline finally continue.

I don't collect much Black Series but man, that Kurt Russell Dash Rendar is sweet. And TBS gets Turgle & Skoova Stev?! I really wish these were coming in TVC too, I may end up picking a few of these up.

Solid wave.  Looks like we might have the entire bad batch in TVC squad by 2045.

Crosshair is long, long overdue.  2023 for Hunter; 2025 for Crosshair... so 2027 for Tech, 2029 for Echo, 2031 for Wrecker and 2033 for Omega?  That's way earlier than 2045, Matt!

:D

It is CRAZY that it took this long to even get him. Comparing the two figures, Crosshair is really just a kitbash the reuses nearly 80% of Hunter w/ a new head, helmet, shoulder armor, left forearm, bandolier, and rifle.

I also just noticed that the bandolier is missing some red paint that can be seen on the cardback image. I planned on getting an extra to customize and weather him up so that he is bit more realistic, I'll have to add that too.

Stealing from Banthaskull for this one, but... he has teeth!  :D ;D

The Vintage Collection / Re: The Future of Star Wars Collecting?

Now that TVC has become nearly all fan channel, I'd really like to see Hasbro embrace this mentality and forget about brick and mortar retail appeal.  This could include increasing the price, giving us fewer (no) repack/kitbashes that are lazy, and drive all new collector-oriented offerings that would probably never work at retail (Andor figures, obscure cantina aliens, etc).

You put it more succinctly than I did, but that's definitely what I'd hope for as well. The effective death of the line at brick-and-mortar is potentially not at all a bad thing, it could end up breaking the ball and chain that has so often held it back at times, allowing Hasbro to get more creative and give us the things we really want on a more regular basis. I don't think that prevents the double-dips or repacks/retools, but in theory, it could allow them to regularly be a bit more creative with them and the line as a whole.

The figure selection so far this year has been great, many of which we'd not have seen at brick-and-mortar, and hopefully, it is an indication that we are moving in that direction.

I know we've all been noticing the decline of TVC (and toys/action figures in general) at brick-and-mortar stores over the last few years, and it has been about a year since the last scare of Target dropping TVC altogether... Tonight, I got curious about the lack of exclusives in general lately, and after a little investigation, I found something pretty telling. Hasbro has likely announced most of their releases for the 1st half of 2025 by now, and we haven't had any retailer exclusive figures. In fact, there has not been a single TVC brick-and-mortar exclusive since 2023...

Between 2018-2023 we had 53 total brick-and-mortar TVC exclusives (~9 per year). Many/Most of those exclusives were just repaints/retools and cheaper for Hasbro to produce. The fact that we haven't had ANY since then feels like a pretty ominous sign for the future of the line at brick-and-mortar. It is really starting to feel like the end of an era, and that this line (if not the entire hobby) has officially moved on to online retailers only. It doesn't seem like the line itself is going away anytime soon, but I do wonder if Hasbro has acknowledged internally that the traditional brick-and-mortar days are done?

Nice! A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.

(Although it is still $24 more than the one from 18 years ago w/ one less figure... but w/ today's prices that feels about right.)
