Car payments get old.  Fix the old truck.

Haven't had any car payments for about three or four years.  I don't miss them at all and my car has a mileage of 343000.  It's old but works well.  I'm ok with that.

Wow, you got me beat.

314K (and change).

Wait a minute - are you talking miles or kilometers?  ;-)

Ruiner and Morg, you're thoughts and implications actually echo mine.  I haven't had a payment for a while and my wife's car is just about paid off.  If it's only $1000 every 8-9 months, no big deal and I'll gladly pay that.  If it becomes that every few months, then there is a problem and I need to seriously look into a new vehicle.

FWIW, I love my truck and really don't want to get rid of it.  I don't remember if I put it in the OP, but I've got about 123000 on the truck (miles).  I'd like to get to 150000 with it, but that will take a while as I only put about 6000 a year on it...it's great working 2 miles from home.

We've got 18 months left on our car... I can't wait to join you guys in the no-payments club.

I'm thinking that keeping the car as long as possible after that is a very easy way to put $305 into savings every month without having to significantly alter our life style.

Yeah, it's awesome.  I refinanced my wife's car last year to free up some cash to pay off some stuff.  Got that stuff paid off and now I'm tripling up payments every month in an effort to get that car taken care of.

I've got about 4 years left on my suv, but I'm not crafty on vehicle repairs and I'm scared to see what might happen when the extended warranty runs out.   :-\  It is nice to be driving a newer vehicle though.   :)
