I got today...

mysterious resurfacing of Obi and Bail w/baby so I got a mint set for my wall...
I got a Tarkin on clearance too.

I also got 3 Spider Droids on the cheap too.  $3 each for a figure that was pretty sought after for a while in '05.

I think production shots of Greedo show no holster but you also don't see him in the film from the waist down to know or not...  I dig the holster so I'm ok with it.  I think the lack of it in production shots would be because it wasn't necessary for the shot so it was just cut out....  Kinda like his footwear.

I can buy that he had it though, and accept that.

What's funny is Dr. Evazan is seen drawing his gun from a holster but neither he nor Ponda have a friggin' holster.  Those are two I'd actually like redone modern style.

On the issue of SA army builders I obviously am all for that, and I'm all for it at a cheaper price...  I'm just concerned that if it was done at the $6 price we'd get a 10 points of articulation figure at best.  :(  I don't like the thought of building armies with $10-per figures though, not by a long shot.  Didn't really "like" it with the VOTC Stormie as much as I loved the figure...

If Hasbro would just offer these in white mailer boxes somewhere for a GOOD price (IE: Not Entertainment Earth's Clone army builder sets with their unnecessarilly spiffy packaging), then I'd be all for it...  Even if first released as $10 VOTC figures or whatever.

And I'd add to the list a Hoth Rebel Soldier too...  I'd replace the Jawa with this actually.  I love Jawas, I want drunk ones for outside my Cantina, but I don't want Super Articluated Jawas really bad.   ;D  I would rather have the Hoth Rebel Soldier (in all white uniform, not the brown vested vintage guy) done, and done right with super articulation or damn close to it.  Jawas just would be lower on my wish list is all.

And holy gazooka's!

I just happened to have a review posted recently for the Tomy RC R2-D2 "RC-D2"  !  Who'd have thunk it?  So if you're wanting some opinion and a kick ass little video of the R2-D2 in action (courtesy of our photo phantom, Jared), I would highly recommend ya read it...  :)

Those do look spiffy though and I have to say I've loved the R2-D2 since I got it.  I want to build an obstacle course for it like a Mos Eisley Streets maze, or a Death Star hallways obstacle course thing.  Yeah I'm a dip that way...  To me that'd be fun little extras with the figures.

Favorite move with R2 is to have him whip a donut till he tips over.  Don't know why but I laugh every time I do that...

And let me say the packaging on these is some of the best yet.  Love the little plastic boxes they come in.  $20's really pretty good for what you get with these and I'm a tightwad with the line.

The new mustangs are fantastic looking...  And actually I'm hoping they drive the 90's/early 00 Mustangs down in price when looking for a used so I may have that as an option when I'm looking to unload my Le Baron...  All thinking ahead, but I'd dig owning a mustang of almost any year.

There's the Charger too which looks nice I think...  Not exactly what I'd have liked, but not bad either, I'm into the new Dodge/Chrysler looks...

The new Camaro looks nice too...  I still wonder though what sales will be on these cars that I can only imagine guzzle gas like an SUV.  Truck sales are down so I'm not sure why they'd think high-performance cars that I would wager take premium gas to fill would be "hot".  My car's a 6 cylinder, and it still uses too much gas to suit me right now.

Oh come on Dave, you know I don't use an Avatar anyway so I'm using one because this is a special time to me so it's hardly worth complaining about.  This was the most watched SB since the 1996 one when we were there...  There's just a lot of Steelers fans I think around the country is all.

I'm not gonna run with this all year, I don't use avatars, I just wanted it for now because I'm celebrating...

As far as bad calls, I'm sure there'd be some complaining from us if this was a total reversal...  I know there were complaints throughout the playoffs because there was bad officiating in a lot of Steelers games, so we're not immune to seeing it "that way", but the difference is the NFL admitted (at least in one game) that it was the case...    Right Here though the NFL isn't saying that, and stands behind the officiating whether it was good or not...  And I'm not even gonna say it was good because there was the low block call I thought was BS, the "phantom hold" as I've heard it called is dubious I think and there were holds against the Steelers that weren't called a number of times...  The big issues I believe were called right but that's my point of view...  Others disagree and that's fine but nobody who's disagreeing is wanting to admit that the Seahawks played like ****, and that no matter what the calls came out to be there's no way saying it would have changed the game's outcome.  At this point it's old, and it just stinks of sour grapes to me and I'm disappointed at that.

The city's great, and the fans here support the team tremendously so it's not really fair to dump on a city I've grown up in and really do love being here as if they're nothing but violent thugs if this game had gone the other way.  We lost the AFC Championship to the Pats and as I recall there was complaint about calls in that game, and how the national media treated the Steelers, but at the end of the day the fans accepted the loss and we looked forward to next year...  Some tried to make a lame argument saying "Well we could've won if this or that didn't happen", but at the end of the day I look at that as nothing but BS and not taking the loss and dealing with it...

At this point nobody's opinion of what was a right or wrong call is going to change...  I think the Steelers earned the victory, I thought the two biggest calls in question were right ones, but at this point I'm done arguing with Seahawks fans who say it wasn't...  I just am going to enjoy this victory, I'm going to relish the moment, and I'm done with the pissing match with the hawks fans because I know for a fact I would NOT be doing that to them because I just don't play it that way.

And you can read an equally unbiased story here as well.  Cable posted a nice fan-footage shot of the QB Keeper TD by Roethlisberger too, and it makes it even clearer that it was in fact a Touch Down.

My brief early opinions...

-Biker Scout...  How can I NOT want 20 of these?  I have 40 some Stormtroopers so I figure I want a 20 Scout squad to complement them.  If they're incredibly abundant and/or clearanced or some such I'd consider more but the 20 seems a round number I could be happy with...  Man, the more I keep thinking about this I'll want more, but 20's a goal.  I set a goal with Stormies, I'll set a goal with Scouties too.  20.

-Luke...  Depending on his height, if he comes a bit higher than Luke SHOULD be I'd consider picking quite a few up for customs.  Articulation's looking sharp, I like the helmet...  I'd be ok with the original head being used since it met the time frame and wasn't bad to me in likeness.  He looks sharp though I think...  I wasn't ever quite "content" with the Dutch sculpt though, it's a bit big and a bit under articulated in the arms so I'm looking forward to Luke as some bit of fodder anyway.

-Greedo...  The pre-destined pegwarmer of the line I think we can all agree, but is he bad?  Not by a long shot.  Neither was Lando and there's about 12 at my local Toys R Us too.  :)  Lando was cool but pegwarmed because he's Lando...  Greedo is great looking, looks to have the best articulation...  I don't personally mind the vest much but it could be better.  I'm not a stickler for hating cloth, and since I have a dozen Greedo figures I can swap a plastic vest on if I really want to.  I may not though, as I have always found new places to put my old Greedo's...  Rodians abound in the films in those outfits with different colored vests so that's cool.  To me he looks good and I like that we're FINALLY getting his correct pistol with him and a holster too.  Other Greedo's are gonna just wind up as Jabba goons for me now and this one will be my "top" figure rendition of Greedo on my shelves.

-Sandperson...  The Tusken looks pretty sharp I think, and packaged cloth figures are tough to sit there and judge.  I know I've cut down the seams inside cloth and made it tremendously less bulky and sit better on the figure.  For instance Palpy's Evolutions figure has a slightly thick cloak that doesn't sit right immediately, so with some work I got it to look pretty great actually.  Same with some other robes so I'm not too concerned on the Tusken...  Plus the material appears to be a gauzey material like the Jedi women's skirts were in 2005.  I like that we get two accessories with him too, I just hope he is super articulated under the robes, unlike say VOTC Obi-Wan who was pretty shoddy actually.

-Han...  Personally I don't think Hasbro would have ever delivered the quality 21st Century does.  They wouldn't have given us two sets of super articulated arms that pop on and off the torso to show Han with the coat on and off.  We'd have gotten maybe a pre-posed set and a poseable set if we were lucky, so I'm not expecting that and I'm pretty happy we got cloth personally.   I just hope Han's SA underneath...  The head it would be nice if it wasn't a reused one since Solo looks different in ROTJ than ANH quite a bit but whatever.  I'm glad to finally have a good Endor Han coming...  So far Saga and POTF2 versions have sucked, so it'll be nice to have something new and better.  And again I can't tell what the texture and feel of the fabric is by looking at it.  It could be very easy to make it look ok on the figure when you open it so I reserve judgment on its bulkiness till I open one up.

As far as pricing goes, I'm not happy with $10 and I think these are $5 figures on $5 packaging...  Hasbro's gotta spend a little on these special cards and the clamshells afterall, but at the same time I'd really prefer these figures were basic prices of course.  Since that isn't gonna happen though, I'm more happy to get a GOOD figure out of this line that embodies what the line should be striving for in every figure.

-Good sculpt
-Good paint job
-Good accessories/features (where applicable)
-Good articulation...  And that is compared with other toy lines, not Hasbro's own idea of what they feel is "good enough" for us.

Now, the basic line is most of those most of the time, but articulation (and to a lesser degree, accessories) tend to fall short of anything close to "competitive".  It's tough to look at the local toy shelves and say Hasbro is delivering quality there...  I'm not happy to pay $10 a figure to get it, but I'm happy to get these figures and some (if not all) of them in multiples...  I just wish Hasbro would take a look at the basic line and really improve it too instead of having it fluctuate in quality like it does.  One figure's great, one is ok, one is flat out terrible...  You just never know what you're gonna get and at the same time Hasbro's releasing plenty of old figures on new cards saving a lot in the process and we see price increases with qualty cut-backs.

To me then the VOTC is a breath of fresh air at a horrible price though.  It's what I want, minus the packaging, but it is costing a lot more than it should unfortunately.

Be fun if they simply ditched ANYTHING pre-posed but like GG picked the ball up and ran with it...  Statues are their thing, so why not ya know?  And mini-statues are really what the miniatures line is about...  So let WOTC run that end of little pre-posed cool figures...

And let Hasbro do NICELY (IE: Better than of late) articulated figures for the basic line...  I saw something about articulation recently that said, "What more do you want?", and I can say that I want less crap like holographic miniatures taking up costs that should be incurred by a more poseable figure.

It's 2005, figure's shouldn't have legs that move NO better than they did in 1983...  Times have changed for the line in every respect except articulation, and I still hold a fear that a 3.75" line of pre-posed figures would take something away from a 3.75" line of articulated (nicely) figures...  I'm all for canning the random crap too like choppers, transformers, and the playskool figures.  Galactic Heroes seem to have a niche, fine, but those others and Titaniums and the like are dead in the water.

The debate continues....  :)

I'll take it but not sure what the paintjob could be like...  The Mace ship would have been nicer though with the purple paintjob.  I also vote for a Sae Sae Tinn fighter too which is spotted in the toon I believe...  Kit's is ok.  Hell I'm dumb enough I'd probably take one for Aylya and others too.

Why do I have Louie Anderson giving the hard work speech to Arsenio Hall and Eddie Murphy in Coming to America stuck in my mind now.   ;D

j/k ruiner, I just thought that was funny for some reason.

Seriously I come from a Steeler Worker's family so Anton makes a ****load of sense to me, no doubt...  I shop at Wal-Mart some, they're convenient at times (not one really close to my house but when I'm out I do shop there) and for Star Wars I don't see lines...  I go where there's stuff unless it's too expensive by my opinion.  KB I've written off for the most part because I just don't go into malls too often due to the hastle.

That said, I refuse to shop at Wal-Mart for things like groceries...  I tend nto to buy things like clothes at Wal-Mart because they aren't too swift for guys clothes.  Target has some spiffy stuff though, but otherwise I'm more a mall guy for that...  You can get cheap GOOD stuff at the mall if you're smart.

For Star Wars though I tend to go where it is...  Right now Wal-Mart's getting my $ for that and my military figures.  Target and TRU are further away, higher priced right now, and have had significantly less as of late.  I did nab Hothies at Target though, and haven't seen 'em since anywhere...  remnants are at the new WM I hear but that's it.

To be on topic with this...

Target and WM aren't terribly different for their availability, and at this point Target I like better because I find you get better customer service and those scanners still work.  Some you can even use your sunglasses earpiece to punch the digits if they took the pad out.  Try it!  :)

But I find I get more "action" when I ask a Target employee to get me something, plus I've got it worked out to where if I can't get a drone on the floor to do it I never have been denied at the customer service desk...

Wal-Mart has a cooler return policy overall but you can't look up crap in their system really unless you're sneaky and you can't get a Wal-Mart employee to help you to save your life.  I'm not sure why, but when you ask about their exclusives you get told either a lie, the truth (hard to tell), or flat out an "I don't know" with no more discussion...  That always sucks.

Prices are relative but Target's been high for the past year + or so.  TRU's not though,t hey're generally pretty good.  $30 for the JSF's was a bit much I think but others have been quite nice, like the Landspeeder for $20 was good, the X-Wings, etc...  Wal-Mart doesn't get a lot of exclusives to comment on.  I dno't recall anything in 2005 immediately so I dunno.  But how hard are they to find at WM if they do have them?  It seems to vary.  Like TIE Bombers were a bitch to find but the repaint wasn't so bad...

Hunter,

I didn't watch the shockies but off memory I know the two on Mustafar had carbines while I can't recall the Senate Pod well enough to remember.  :(

The 501st march on the temple I did watch though, just didn't comment on because it was short.  I didn't watch them tearing up the temple or the guards left outside to comment.  On the march, I noticed fewer carbines though, but the scene is quick too and not real broad looking at them head-on.  The overhead shots I think I see more rifles than carbines but it's tough to judge it accurately too.  I know the scene with the row behind anakin shows at least one with a carbine in sort ofthe middle when the shot pans overhead, and rifles on either side if I recall correctly.

18117
So now that we are where we are...  I wonder if the offer's going to cover the line overall with the VOTC being a "deluxe" line of sorts, but also working on the mail-in promotion...

I wonder what the facts of this are though at this point.   :-\  Is it only VOTC now or basics too?  Very odd.

I like him too, just loathe the price.  I'd have built a platoon if they were a reasonable price.  Even $8 - $10 would have pushed me to buy more than the handful I've bought or traded for.

What's the story?

The story is Hasbro's shameless and will shill any random paintjob clone to any company they can as overpriced exclusives because they love dicking the consumer around with this line.  :)

Wait that's not the story they want?

The red palpy needs a big do-over...  good articulation would be nice, and a couple headsculpts no doubt.
