Revenge of the Sith / Re: RotS - Collection 2 Figures

yeah, that robe idea's probably one of the better ones Hasbro has tried, so long as it doesn't look odd in person.  It seems cool by all photos seen, so I'm digging it.

A nice answer to the Hasbro inability to make a good cloth Robe.

The irony there is that Hasbro CAN do good cloth robes, they just needed better fabric.  If anyone here got the "Total Control" Mace Windu figure, they know there's a fabric out there that hangs JUST right.  Hasbro never sought to use that fabric on a sewn, removable robe though.  It would've worked perfectly though...  If I could find that exact fabric I'd be sewing up my own Jedi Robes constantly for all these figures that need a good cloth robe.

So Mas Ameda is the Star Wars Gene Simmons?

I wonder if he markets himself on all kinds of merchandise...  Mas Ameda T-Shirts, Mas Ameda Keychains, etc...  Eh, guess not since Lucas would sue him.

Huh, how about that...

That's a cool one Dale...

Having seen that now though, I'm thoroughly unimpressed with Hasbro's toy.  That is something I'm officially passing on till clearance.  They did a horrid job.

I love that Lucas must've liked the ARCs enough to carry them over to film on some level...  He calls them Commanders, but I already am just assimilating the EU to the films.

N/P Muftak...  My TIE's are all in a pile at the moment on a shelf.  Those that can be, dismantled.  I wound up with a mini fleet of bombers with nowhere to put them all till I get some good shelving going.  That, I fear, will be quite some time.

Hey Ook,

I have 3 POTJ Fleet Troopers (at least my list I'm looking at does though I am pretty sure it's current) if you're interested.  I'd just want to recoop my cost on them of course.

Send me a PM if you'd be interested,

The Feltipern's a nice one because his first version had the gun all warped.  Easily fixed, but still I hate warped weapons because of the shoddy plastic Hasbro uses...

Oh yeah, and I am very pleased I don't piss with carded figures...  I'd just be irritated beyond belief.

They're almost identical in width Muftak...

The wings aren't exactly the same, but the only differences is in how they mount to the ship (Vader's come off, the Bombers are premanent unless you took it apart).  The height/length is identical to the TIE Bomber, width is identical just by eyeballing but a slight discrepency could be there...  If it is, it's so slight you can't see it.

I'm maxed at 21 it seems.  These just aren't showing up anymore here sadly.  My 21st I got at a KB and it seemed as though it possibly had been there a while on top of that so I'm not even counting it as a recently put out figure.

Felt bad paying the mark-up but I bit the bullet on that one.

Be nice to nab more at the better $9-$10 price or (yeah right) WM clearance prices.  WM made short work of all its VOTC.  Even the first level of clearances to $7 pretty much wiped all VOTC out around here.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Terminator Toy Line... 4" Scale.

I'd expect that not to change actually.  21st is a very good company...  Pretty adept at taking a 1:6 head and just scaling it down for 1:18 too.  Dragon does a similar process when they whip up 1:18 figures (as rare as that is).

Some guy in a Star Wars costume actually had the cajones to threaten people?

Hmmm, I wonder if anyone knows just who this king of douchebaggery actually is/was...  Ya know, just incase ya bump into him and wanna laugh your ass off in his face for even thinking of saying something that absolutely asinine.

Here's something I'm glad I don't get into too much...

I've always dug getting the "Imperials" and "Rebels" autographs...  Pilots, officers...  never jumped into main characters really beyond getting Prowse to sign (and hoping to get JEJ to sign the same image some day).  Beyond that though, the whole autograph thing is a crock to me on some level...

Celebration seems to make it extra tough to get too excited over as well, between horrific stories about lines and then the cost is higher than regular cons.

The only name I really wouldn't mind having is Bulloch to sign a Fett and Imp. Officer picture, as well as perhaps Baker signing something but still the whole thing just sours me on autographs.

I'll wait for these people to come back through Pittsburgh at Comic Con here instead maybe...  Lot of those names have made appearances here (most actually) already.  Pissing around with that would just annoy me at C3 I think.

Power of the Jedi / Re: favorite POTJ figure
« on: February 26, 2005, 01:22 AM »
The POTJ line-up was filled with great figures...  Some of my tops are:

-R4 droid (the green/white droid)
-FX-7 (best droid ever still I think)
-Jek Porkins
-Bacta Luke
-Bespin Guard (one of the best army builders ever)
-Teebo (Best Ewok ever)
-Mon Cal Officer/Crewman (Great generic army builder)
-K-3PO (Nice repaint, and needed, just needed a hideable damage feature)
-Sandtrooper (again, great army builder short of wrist articulation)
-Tessek (One of the best Jabba's Palace aliens still)

Hell, I even liked the EU guys like Snowbi Wan, and Qui Gon/Obi-Wan Jedi Training Gear figures.  The Mauls were just stale though.

And unfortunately POTJ was a sign of things to come with static poses...  Eeth Sloth was a great sculpt but an attrocious figure, and Bespin Leia, Bespin Lando, and DS Escape Han all exemplified figures that were nothing more than a statue you couldn't use outside of its one pose.  Those sucked to me for their static poses.

However, my favorite figure from POTJ was easily the...

Imperial Officer!

While I think it's been fairly well widdled down that these guys are actually gunnery crewman (IE: Gunners without the helmets like we're used to) after some photo evidence from ANH (or they could be pilots at rest too), the figure was nonetheless an incredible army builder.

Fairly generic, fairly plentiful (could've stood being moreso though, given that he was always the first to sell-out from the later waves he shipped in), and fairly poseable, he was a great figure overall for filling in any Imperial diorama.

The saga headsculpts just added to his coolness then, but he was a must have in multiples for me.  I still pick any of them up if I find them for $5 or less.  Just got a pile of all 3 head variants not long ago from someone at Scum actually.

The Imp. Officer gets my nod, though all the figures I listed were fantastic and hold up well even against the VOTC quality we're seeing now...  Let's just hope that new and better level of quality carries over to future waves of classic figures then though.  Even though POTJ was cool, VOTC showed just how much better things can be.

The license to Skycaptain's weird to me too...  I guess the company, as I understand it, that was trying to license that film just asked them to whip a plane up in the film's deco...  Since they had a P-40 (it's not a Mustang btw, different planes) tooled and all already...

To me, it's odd, but they're getting some recognition for it...  The fact they're delving into licensing is a good sign for the company.  They've done licensing before, but generally it was something along the lines of "Dodge" selling them the license to do the Dodge Command Car, or Cargo truck from WW2...  Stuff like that.

Their first big license was getting the Patton family rights to do George Patton items, which was surprisingly expensive.  21st is really showing that they have rebounded though, even though I've argued they have expenses and overhead that most likely surpasses large companies like Hasbro in how they must plan financially...  Plus now licensing fees.  If what I heard is right, the Platoon license wasn't anything short of pricey, even for a large company, what with acquiring the actor's likenesses and the film's rights and such.  That's a lotta bigname people who are making appearances in plastic (incredible likenesses too, just outstanding!), including Johnny Depp, Tom(d?) Berrenger, and Charlie Sheen...  Not to mention Willam Defoe.  I guess there's 6 more of the actors to come too maybe?  I dunno.

They really picked their **** up after the last couple years where financial troubles plagued them.

To me the Bridge Too Far line may be the most interesting.  :)  That's an old film...

On the note of Skycaptain, and its disappointment, the movie Sahara is also under 21st's licensing rights...  The one kid from "That Thing You Do" (The funny blonde guy) and Matthew McConnahey (sp?) are the only two getting figures I guess and they're really only gonna repaint a couple of their current vehicles and include the figures as pack-ins.  I think a stand-alone figure line would've been more impressive.  Sucks they didn't push that movie with more figures I think.

A dog too?  hmm, interesting...  Sounds like they're maybe willing to jump into the future wars thing.  Especially with the tank-like one.

I wish they'd get off the pot already on the pictures though.

Toy Fair was a huge crap fest I guess...  Not a lot showing and those who were weren't allowing photos.

BBI and 21st are in this horn lock where they won't display stuff early for fear the other will dick them over by attempting to "steal" it.  Dusty Trails didn't even have their 4" Wild West line with them which I really was looking forward to.

Companies like Palisades were hush-hush...

21st didn't display much, but their pamphlet had pictures of the Platoon figures they're making (and mentioned a 10 figure series for the film A Bridge Too Far).  Pics of their Japanese 1:18 infantry figures too which was neat.

Nothing on hand though.  :(  Just some planes.

BBI's only real 4" showing was they did have some more clear photos taken of their World War II U.S. infantry which look to blow 21st's 1st series outta the water (thank god).

Hell, even Star Wars was stuff we'd all seen already...  Though seeing those CLones up close was a treat.  Highlight of the show probably was their efforts with clonetroopers this year.

And I still can't get those goddamn 4" Alien Vs. Predator figures MisterPL.  It's killing me.  :(  When I can afford them nobody has them, and when I can't afford them I can track a case down (that's about it, never individual figures for the $10-ish price).

Oh well...  :(
