Revenge of the Sith / Re: "Evolutions" assortment...
« on: April 8, 2005, 11:42 AM »
No Clone - Stormie, but judging by the pic of Vader I can only imagine the coolness that could be an E2 & 3 Clone, and then a Stormie.

That Anakin looks very figure-licious.

EDIT:

BTW, at the same time, it takes balls the size of church bells to EVER re-release that Geonosis Arena Mace.  I mean, whatever guy at Hasbro said "Let's put this guy back into circulation!" must walk like John Wayne with the sack he's lugging around.

Well I just wanted to post in it one last time and gloat because I can.  So bite me.

Oh, and I was unbanned at Scum but I'm taking a break, for a possibly extended period...  I figured it pertinent to update my status though, and "play fair" with that.  I was unbanned a couple days ago but too busy to get on letting anyone know.

The Original Trilogy / Re: Fun with the Military!
« on: April 8, 2005, 10:47 AM »
Actually have a working theory on that...

Porkins, if you disregard the BS EU that he tinkers iwth his ship and it crashed, and if you go with the film's context which IMPLIES he's caught in crossfire from the surface, is the key...  Another instance I feel implies my theory's the "reason" is Luke's "getting singed" on his strafe run.

The theory I have working is that the closer you get to the surface, the more intensely tight the crossfire produced by the surface guns is, and the easier it is for the Empire to shoot you down with their gunnery teams.

This applies somewhat to Earth Naval/Air combat from the 20th Cent...  Low "Deck" level attacks often were met with more accurate fire, etc...  One could assume SW gun turrets are maybe more accurate as well anyway.

The attack run on the trench then requires a sharp dive into the trench, eliminating the majority of the surface guns being able to draw fire on you...  The key is the thought that the gunnery crews on the surface ARE accurate enough to shoot fighters down (as the film implies that they do with Porkins, and almost burn Luke too), but that the fighters are maintaining a certain "ceiling" while drawing the Imperial fighters away as best they can, and waiting for run after run to take place.

Some EU helps support it too, namely the flight sims...  The closer you get to any capital ship, the more intense and accurate the fire is from its gun turrets.  They can really paste you good, and firing warheads is a trick all its own where you have to fly in close and "dumbfire" most of the time to get an accurate hit, as the warheads are relatively easy to shoot down when they're flying at a locked target from a distance.

The exhaust port attack would've been somewhat of a "dumbfire" shot (for Luke it was completely so) with the more simplistic targeting computer helping the pilot manually aim, rather than the EU "lock" system the HUD uses, but which can throw the warhead's aim off...  Hard to explain really, but if you've played the game it actually makes sense and jives with the films even though the targeting screen isn't an available feature in the games at all (save for the Rogue Squad games).

In that sense, the attack on the DS1 makes complete sense, but you just have to buy into the DS Gunners being accurate at close range, which I do tend to agree with.  I hate that BS EU story that says Porkins screwed his controls up and THAT is why he's offed.  Give them gunners some credit dammit! :)

Revenge of the Sith / Re: RotS - Collection 1 Figures
« on: April 8, 2005, 10:25 AM »
I'm curious, and I'm just guessing now that Tarful's a Col. 1 figure too, but what is his deal with the articulation.

Not terrible arm articulation, could use wrists though (reuse VOTC CHewie's even...  Save a buck on sculpt/tooling), but what's up with his legs?

Why are they jointed, but only twist.  Am I missing something?  Does he have knee articulation?  I can't tell, honestly.  Mine's legs just spin, which is an incredible waste of time/$ tooling an articulation on both legs that serves no purpose, but whatever...

Anyone have insight?  Is there a knee joint there I'm missing all together or something?

BTW that bowcaster blows something fierce too.  Yikes. :(

Nice bland figure, but not $6-ish nice.

God forbid they read the, "Please shower before you go to the show" posts pertaining to C3 then.  Wouldn't want anyone getting a wrong impression.   ;D

Well, I do Bob, but I've got sets so I'm keeping that junk together.

I'll talk to you Saturday most likely...  Well, god willing I get this paper to where I'm content...  I'll likely just call you during the show this time so I'm not searching you out like last time, haha.

***Raises his hand for help***

Like I'd ever get to F'n SDCC.   ::)

Having gotten Palps though, and maybe Yoda here, I'm kinda getting into these Holo figures some.  Don't wanna quit now.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Dusty Trail Toys new "Wild West" Line
« on: April 8, 2005, 05:38 AM »
I don't have the mail any longer, but it was very nice, but not particularly informative either Paul.

Hard to say where this line stands.  They were pushing it at Toy Fair I know, and didn't have a buyer at that point.  it could be just in production, or still shopping it around.  Hard to say right now but I too am a little dejected to not hear more.

I'm sorta amped about the Terminator and Planet of the Apes lines though, those are cool.  Wish more military stuff was rolling around, but so far the Marines have been the highlight of '05.  :(

Hey Ook,

I've passed that along so we'll see.  It's a bit of work I think, and we're all bogged down at the moment, but the suggestion's in the proper ears now, just so ya know we're not ignoring you.  :)

Site Feedback, Suggestions, and Help / Re: Photo Novel section.
« on: April 8, 2005, 05:23 AM »
I'm concurring with Matt on the notion of making a mini-section within the Customs area rather than whole separate forum.  I've never liked that about hte Diorama section at Scum, it just feels like it separates two ends of the hobby that should go together.

"Hey, you got customs in my photonovel!"  "Hey, you got photonovel in my customs!"...  :)  They just go together.

But a separate section with customizing is a dandy idea.

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: Busted VOTC Leia - bummer
« on: April 8, 2005, 05:13 AM »
I'm not sure that a screw in the leg would be a bad idea, there looks to be SOME material left, but not having one in the same state as yours it's tough to judge from a picture.

Worse comes to worse you could try that at least...   :-\

The good thing is she went for so cheap most places that getting a replacement isnt' a huge deal I guess.  Just a pain at this point I'm sure.

The best part of the story I've heard so far is that a kid is playing iwth a VOTC Leia.  I recall many people telling me VOTC wasn't for kids at all, and were meant to just sit in the packaging...  I can see some point that kids maybe weren't the target, but they're damn fun figures nonetheless. :)

30th Anniversary Collection / Re: How big is your army?
« on: April 8, 2005, 05:05 AM »
Well I managed (through my gf being at WM tonight) to get 2 more Clones and a Wookie Warrior.  The army gains a little ground I guess.  Not much though.

I'm more concerned with C3 right now, than army building.  I do want those higher # figures though.  Damn!

Revenge of the Sith / RotS Figure Sales!
« on: April 7, 2005, 05:45 AM »
I'm as amazed at the title I wrote as you possibly are at reading it.

I went to K-Mart tonight to score on the "2 for $11" deal they have.  Not much of a deal considering everyone else has figs for $4.99 this week or something, but I went anyway and I was shocked.

The only 2 figs I wanted were the 2 royal guards they had (red) on the pegs.  They had maybe 8 to 10 basic figures beyond that laying around, but probably 8 to 10 actual pegs for basic figures.  This place was packed on 4/2 also, from what I understand, and now nothing.

I'm amazed that, even at the mark-up, K-mart is still selling figures relentlessly.  That has to bode well for the popularity of the line overall, and I wonder if this is opening Hasbro's eyes that quality sculpts, articulation, and accessories are what sell this line in volume.  Perhaps this is a great omen for things to come!  I'm hoping so anyway.

I was cleaning up K-Mart tonight on a brief jaunt there looking for army builders.

Place was a mess, but I have to say they had maybe 8 - 10 figures TOTAL on pegs.  When a toy line's figures are selling, even at a $2+ mark-up (though they are on sale this week), you have to think the line's doing well.
