Revenge of the Sith / Re: More Target Exclusives?
« on: March 15, 2005, 05:18 PM »
Making army builders exclusive is a kick in the balls unless Target surprises everyone and actually makes these widely available.  It'd require incredible saturation to do that though, if these are any kind of super articulated figure.

I'll withold judgment, but something tells me this is a bad situation coming for any army builder.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Holy Mother of ROTS!
« on: March 15, 2005, 05:09 PM »
I'm actually getting pretty underwhelmed myself by a lot of the ROTS product too.

Deluxe, Vs. 2-packs, 99% of the vehicles, and about 50% of the Collection 1 figures are all underwhelming me or simply flat out suck in my opinion.

The other stuff...  Attacktix, GH, etc., etc., etc., etc....  None of it ever appealed to me and I never planned to get any of it.

I'll get deluxe, vs., and that other stuff when it's on clearance, I'm likely to do the same with most of Collection 1, and the vehicles/playsets are destined for that as well.

Off-hand the only bigger-than-basic-figure items I can think that I'll get maybe at full price are the AT-RT (looks to-scale, so that suits me), Greivous' wheel bike, Obi's thingie...  Yoda on the Cancel.  The beasts are to-scale so that's fine, and Greivious' bike looks it too, as does the AT-RT, so those all appeal to me.  I just hope I can make good figures for all those, haha.  Hasbro sure as **** didn't.

The figures are hit and miss...  Some are great, and I'd say it's a far superior offering to E1 or E2's line-ups.  The vehicles leave a lot to be desired though, there's a bit of oversaturation too with all these side toy lines too I believe, but whatever...  It's the last hurrah so I completely expected a blitz like Episode 1 had...  Let it all fly and hope for the best.  Retail will buy it, it's just what effect it has AFTER the E3 hype dies that I worry about.

Will retail be sour on all SW product, even limited lines for collectors?  Eh, it's very possible.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Parallel parking...

They're really fun to drive, as long as you have the discomfort tolerance and necessary stupidity

Oh man!  We took my buddy Dan's from Pittsburgh to Chicago to see our friend Eric who was out there for school, and we drug his girlfriend with us because he basically invited her ( rolleyes )...  It was about an 8 to 9 hour drive in one with maybe 2 stops on the way to stretch our legs.

Never, ever, again...  Never.   >:(

First off, the drive from Pittsburgh to Chicago is boring.  You go through Northern Ohio and Northern Indiana.  Those two places SUCK.  Flat, desolate, baren in many places.  It just sucked.

To make it worse though, it was cold-ish when we went so no top down...  It was like late April, but still cold that year.

It just sucked...  The entire thing.  Uncomfortable as all get out.  In the city the Jeep was a plus though because once in Chicago we were fighting ina nd out of traffic, maneuvering into tight parking, and the Jeep performed well.  The trip there was hell though.

Best thing on earth to parallel park, I'm 100% convinced, is the jeep.  My 2 friends each drive Wranglers, and I've never seen a car that you can put into the tiniest spots like that thing.

I'm not a Jeep fan myself...  They roll easily, they're not the best on gas (due to the 4wd), they're not good rides in the slightest (very rough/firm suspensions), but I tell ya...  In the city where roads are smooth, and parking tight, you really can't beat them...  Other than the gas mileage, which they're not horrible, just not great either.  Worse than my 6 cyl. car.

Jeeps though turn on a dime, and my buddy Dan's has squeezed into a space between two other spaces, and still left plenty of room for everyone to maneuver out.  It's really impressive.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Terminator Toy Line... 4" Scale.
« on: March 15, 2005, 01:50 AM »
Well, I can't find the Kenner Alien Queen Playset as easily as I'd have liked...  It looks better than McFarlane's to me, but I can't find one readily for sale.  I'm hoping to though...  The scale of the McFarlane one seems odd.  I know the human's bigger than a SW figure but the queen's small it seems, I dunno.

The Kenner playset, I figured, was not only a neat queen but also the set itself is pretty great looking I figured.

Be great if I could mimic the "sticky" look they had in the films to stick victims to the walls.  A few Imperials stuck to walls?  Come on!  That'd rock, think about it!  Set that up around the Kenner playset with the queen popping out eggs...  That's a cross-over waiting to happen folks.

A stormtrooper with his chest being blown out by the jaws of an Alien too?  Fuggetaboutit!

I'm saddened I haven't scored early figures aside from finding everything at KM.  KM blows.   :-\

I mean, Agen's cool but I keep looking at him and he's $8 worth of plastic staring back at me.  At least in KM's eyes he's $8 worth of plastic.  In mine he's $4-$5 no matter how cool he may be...  I guess I'm just gonna be stuck waiting till 4/2 for a real hook-up of figures, but even then the Collection1's I've seen in person weren't much to write home about.

It'll be army builders for me, and the C2 Jedi who I dig...  There's so many clones though, that building armies is gonna be rough this year.  Hell I'm wanting 8 of the Royal Guards at least...  The Senate Guards, who knows.  Then custom fodder...  *sigh*

Who are the manacles for?

For him...  I think.

Isn't Agen Kolar cool? :)  He's the only figure I can relate with you on, but he does rock.  However I did get to see a Royal Guard up close out of the packaging, and he's one of the better figures IMO.  Even has that holster for the sidearm.  If they'd packed a forcepike in he'd be pretty perfect I think.

Toy Reviews / Re: JD.com Review: Dagobah Luke & Yoda!
« on: March 14, 2005, 03:12 PM »
Yeah Jason, it was a nice touch...  I just didn't mention it though because it wasn't a stand-out to me I guess.  It's the way his stand worked was all, so I guess I felt I was including that by mentioning the stand itself.

I wasn't overly impressed with the Luke I guess...  Underwhelmed by the arms and all, I was sorta down on this one after that.  Though as a figure he's great in most ways up TO the arms.

I hope to have a fix for that in the near future.  Unfortunately VOTC Luke's arms tend not to match up to Dagobah Luke as well as I'd like them to.   :-\

Toy Reviews / JD.com Review: Dagobah R2-D2
« on: March 14, 2005, 03:08 PM »
And another one down...  Look for Spirit-O-Ben-Louis soon though!

He's lean, he's mean, he's uh...  dirty.  Well, he's not something you haven't seen before really, as he's actually mostly reused parts and things, but he is something new in the paintjob.  Very nicely new actually.

But is he a good figure?  Well that you have to decide for yourself!  Click Right Here to read the whole thing and see what you think.

Myself, I found the figure lacking the 1-2 punch I needed to make me content with the purchase.  I like the figure as a repaint, and it blows the pack-in R2 away that came with the Dagobah X-Wing...  The problem though?  He's not anything new really, and he came with nothing to make me say that he was worth the $5.

A base is cool, but not a single accessory bit the big one.  A problem with astromechs, but look what we've gotten with others like R2-Q5...  A neat little holo Death Star.

I think Hasbro could've tossed in the Dagobah X-Wing accessories like Luke's luggage, or the Flashback Yoda Lamp, or all of them...  Just to give this guy some oomph as a toy.

Anyway, read the review, get back to us here, have fun.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: 2005 Red Metallic Darth Vader @ Target
« on: March 14, 2005, 02:51 PM »
A-Typical of Target really...  I like them generally, as a store, but when it comes to STar Wars they're all about treating it as a collectible and making it a frustrating line to buy there at times.

Not that I harbor any love for Wal-Mart...  Toys R Us is what it is too.  They all are pretty shoddy at times.  I prefer shopping at Target though...  lesser of the 3 evils I guess.  Or of the 4 or 5 evils if you count KB and KM too.

New one for me...  Well not really new, as I've watched this off and on for a while, but it's funny nonetheless.

http://www.cheaters.com/

This show is great...  Real or fake, it's funny...

I think it's sorta like Jerry Springer in that there's just no way that the trash is acting that well, otherwise they'd have a career outside of being a criminal, but other times it seems like it may be scripted...  So I figure it's a mix of real and fake, but the real is real funny.

The host is fantabulous too.  Love watching the guy just really poorly ridicule the cheater on the cheatee's behalf.  He's the type of guy that I'm 100% positive lost in every "rip battle" he was ever in.  Even "Yo Mama" jokes probably confuse him.

He's great when he's in some confused cheater's face though with those camera lights blaring...  The show just makes me laugh.  I guess I have too much free time.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Episode 3 Score
« on: March 14, 2005, 12:37 AM »
One thing I noticed is that the Royal Guard is blue on the card, but the figure is red - is this a variant or something?

Brad, yeah...  It seems like a running change of blue and red guards, the helmets obviously being different too, but basically the same otherwise (no forcepikes, bummer :( ).  The figure rocks all get out...  I got a look at an opened one at the local meeting we had here on Saturday, and wow.  Nice articulation, holster for the sidearm, rifle...  Love the robe too.

Hard to say if one or the other is "rare" yet, but I'm wagering neither will be...  I'll be replacing (customizing) some E1/E2 versions and then also replacing my royal guards I have for the Emperor as well on my classic Imperial shelf.  May just go all out and nab extras for Carnor Jax and things as well.  Great figure!  Easily one of the best of the new line I think.

K-Mart would be wise to sell early...

After this, it's Hasbro's line to sell, not the other way around, so retail has no real fear of reprisal on a line that is not going to have a huge backing after this film.  Sell early, beat the rush.

At $8 a figure after tax, which is absolutely a rediculous price, I walked away from all but one figure at K-Mart, and that one I even have a stinging feeling from purchasing.  I mean, there's half a tank of gas or so.  At that price, KM will be left in the dust of all their competition if they DON'T cash in on an "early leak", intentional or otherwise.  Especially with TRU and Target having a promotion on 4/2 and WM dropping to almost the old MSRP.

KM's pulling stuff is only going to shoot themselves in the foot.  At the prices I saw though it serves them right.  As nice as those Royal Guards looked, I had to walk away and just wait for something reasonably priced.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: RotS - Collection 1 Figures
« on: March 13, 2005, 03:04 PM »
Having now seen many of the Collection 1 figures in person, I have to say I'm a bit more underwhelmed than at first.  Some I think I'll like ok enough, some though just plain out suck...  A lot even remind me of Episode 2 launch figures in overall quality.

Even the Clone is in this range to me sadly...  THough he looks much better than say, Anakin.  Some had loose wobbl arms in the packaging though (Mace) which is simply a bad sign to me.

Great Collection 2 figures.  But Collection 1, even with some effort to make them appeal to adults, is going to be a bit underwhelming I think...  A little more so than I'd hoped.

The Mace is so close to being a good figure though, it's irritating.   :-\
