Revenge of the Sith / Re: Question on price for C3 Cader.
« on: February 20, 2005, 11:56 PM »
Personally, while I've always appreciated the help in the past, I think it's up to the individual how to repay the person...  Otherwise it gets touchy.  It's a tough situation with con exclusives.

My POV on people claiming "recooping cost" is that the only cost involved is the cost of the item itself.  All other costs are tallied to one's personal enjoyment of going to the thing in the first place.  Like I can't buy up this figure and claim I want $10 or $20 compensation for my going to the con...  I'm gonna ENJOY the con, and I'd have been going if there wasn't a figure anyway...  if that makes sense.

Personally I think with so many people bending over backwards to help, and with it being a Star Wars con and all, that unless you were going just to get these to distribute them to friends and stuff then charging extra isn't going to be looked upon too highly.

Maybe $5 or so...  That's bending things in my view though as while someone isn't gonna be spending the $95 or whatever to go to the con,t hey're also sitting at home and not getting to experience all there is at Celebration 3 either.  It's sort of a trade-off really.

Dave, you have to pre-order through the site, so head on over and put an order in.  :)

We're not allowed to actually sell anything AT the con I guess, so it's a pre-order only thing to drum up a little support for the site and the Celebration 3 presence overall.  Glad you're in for a shirt!

People will be FFURG Green with Envy I am sure!

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: ROTS Picture Thread
« on: February 20, 2005, 06:48 AM »
The uniform he's sporting looks very "REpublic"-esque like Faytonni's does.

These seem to be lead-ins to the Imperial uniforms I think...  Republic just naturally
blends into the Empire really.

They look sorta Napoleonic.  I dig that really, but it's very over-the-top in its own way too.
Maybe shows some of the extravegance the Republic had, and maybe shouldn't have.

BTW the re-appearance (seemingly) of Faytonni's character as possibly still being around
and in the Republic's actual military regulars/sentients (if that is the outfit) totally cans
the incredibly lame-ass EU story that Faytonni was a con-man in Republic military disuise.

It could be BS'd, but it's stretching that already terrible story thin, thank god.

I made up for my lack of bachelorette parties (well, maybe at least 1 of them) last night.    ;D ;)

I've made up for my lack of bachelor parties in life many-a-time.  To me, it's fair to get compensated just for a bad evening by "making up for a bachelor(ette) party" if you want.  :)  It's livin' good is all!

JD Sports Forum! / Re: NHL Offseason

I second what Dale said.  Gretzky and Lemieux can bend over backwards on this but there's no saving the NHL season, I'm sorry.

It was a pipedream I think.

Joe Defender / Re: G.I. Joe Toys Thread

And with that, every step I took TOWARDS Joe I can now take 2 back.

Any love for the line I had is gone since it's not being supported anymore.  **** Hasbro and their ill-fated decisions.  You can't tell me the 3.75" line didn't do well last year, even with repaints/reshipments.

The 12" line was the anchor and it deserved at least being scaled back.  It's just not gonna last in the uber-competitive market that they were trying to compete in.  They didn't have anything beyond $1 store knock-off quality in comparison to Dragon or Sideshow.  They lost that war themselves.

To kill 3.75" though is stupid.  It's one of the only toylines I see relentlessly replenished...  To me they should've kept it running alongside the new scale, but whatever.  One less thing to be tempted by at least.

Episode 1 / Re: How much??????
« on: February 19, 2005, 06:01 AM »
That's entirely possible.  I found tons of Starships at many stores that had the droid removed from the packaging.  Some were replaced with something else, others were just simply missing, even with the packaging torn away.

Lame move on anyone's part if you ask me, but Hasbro BEGS for these things to happen with the shoddy packaging idea displaying the droid on that, not to mention the fact they made a figure exclusive to an $80+ toy...  They may as well put a sign on it with instructions how to rip the store off with all that incentive.   >:(

I think had the Sandcrawler been a regular release item that was all over the place like that, and not something most people simply ordered online, then we'd have seen the same thing occur there pretty frequently.

They packed the Silver Death Star Droid in an outrageously overpriced vehicle, screwing many die-hard collectors over who just didn't wanna plunk $60 or whatever down for a FIGURE.

I got mine because a buddy was getting the crawler for Miniatures gaming...  I lucked out that he simply gave me his Death Star Droid and Jawas from the SC then.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Toy Fair 2005 - Feb 19th-23rd
« on: February 18, 2005, 09:34 AM »
Mustafar - no wonder no one's been leaking pictures of that thing, it's pretty lame.  Let's hope the back side of the Volcano doesn't suck too hard.  But, like Jared said I guess I end up buying it once it's on clearance thanks to my basic figure OCD.

Am I the only one thinking about stealing a 3rd grade science project instead of buying that?  Slap a door on...  hell the Endor Bunker playset even.

Voila!

EDIT:

BTW, I think it's perhaps a gunner's helmet Jeff.  Seems reasonable speculation right now anyway...

And on the ARC issue, there's a production sketch at SW.com and it looks closer to the toy, possibly.  Sketches are always all over the place sometimes though.

And if you count it, the torso where it breaks in half...  At least I think that's the same droid from the hangar.

The generator droid has shoulder and hip joints though, and maybe it's head is articulated too.  No knee/elbows though.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Toy Fair 2005 - Feb 19th-23rd
« on: February 18, 2005, 09:04 AM »
Ya know what Jared, I'm gonna call bull**** on the Official site's "22.85 meter" number currently.  I was looking at 50" on a tape measure and comparing...

Then I was looking at ARC screen shots and a pilot's head in a cockpit bubble...  It ain't adding up just eyeballing it.  Sounds like the Official Site's full of official **** and is maybe over-estimating this.  I could very well be wrong, but 50" is HUUUUUUUUUGE for a wingspan.  We're talking massive for a "fighter".

That's the length given for some OT fighters I think.

I'm wondering if that's a site misprint or if specs/diagrams will alter this...

The ****** thing about Star Wars sources is that they're inaccurate often.  The AT-AT on the official site lists it at like 15 meters or so I think, and the movies prove it's nowhere near that small.  That the number is off by 5 or 6 meters at least.

With this crap being CGI more often than not, it makes it 1000 times more difficult to say that "this is this long" because a physical model isn't there where an ILM Model-Builder can say "we built it to such and such scale, then changed that number, etc..."

So I'm not gonna judge the ship just yet, but the toy's pictures make me think it's underscaled just eyeballing the two.  The 22.85m number's gonna about solidify that if that's an accurate figure, but I'm not sure that the Official Site has their **** together on that one.  I'll wait for final judgment but things just don't look good on my end...  The toy's hull area looks ok until the nose...  The wings, it's tough to tell, and there's not a ton of ARC Shots out there.

Anyone wanna post any REAL clear screen captures of them that they happen to have? :)

Celebration III: Indianapolis / Re: Star Wars Celebration 3
« on: February 18, 2005, 08:02 AM »
I'm curious about something that has me a bit confused since I didn't go to Celebration 2.

I "Registered" at GenCon's site to get my tickets, then I ordered my 4-day badge and "registered" for that as well.

Is that all I have to do?  Is it gonna just ship to me now, and is there any way I can tell it IS shipping?

Has nobody received theirs yet, I assume?

I see people saying they "Got" their passes but I'm wondering if they meant they just bought them and they're waiting like the rest of us for them to get there actually. :)

Just wanted to be sure.  I don't wanna be in a panic on this pass issue is all.

Move to Pittsburgh Dean...  We seem to be a haven for people getting on reality shows.  Someone told me one of the people on Survivor this season is from PIttsburgh and I think that's like our 2nd or 3rd...

When you get voted off for punching the most arrogant person win, you'll be welcomed here to refer to many as buttmunch.

A 50" wingspan is my estimation (rough) on a "true-scale" ARC Fighter then.  :(

I'm gonna make a big guess at "no" on that one then...  4 figures?  I think it'd be amazing if it held 2 actually.

This looks to be SEVERELY underscaled.  I'm not surprised, but given how wingspan's collapsable in packaging, it's a crock of **** that it isn't to-scale.  No reason it can't be...  My P-38's HUGE, and was around $50.

The only packaging bulk would be the hull...  I'm kinda on a downer now.  Oh well.

Good figures, ****-tacular ships.  50/50's a better rate than what the 3.75" line was doing this time 3 years ago. :)
