Congrats to the LAkers for beating us.

Enjoy your last shot at the title before your team implodes as "Turd #8" ends up with the Clippers and Malone and The Glove retire, leaving Shaq all alone.

Go Pistons!

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: OTC DVD Sets

I agree about the OTC madness.

IF Hasbro's intent was to get figures into the hands of "new" collectors, then why not offer a VARIETY?  They are cranking out re-packs, which I know they need to do to cut cost, bring in new collectors, etc, but why THE SAME figures over and over?  Why not mix in some new/different figures/repacks?

If it truly is Hasbro's desire to bring in new "collectors", couldn't the same effect be achieved by presenting a brand new Luke, Obi-Wan, R2 and 3PO in a box?  Why, do we need to see re-packs in order to bring in new collectors?  If they are "new" to collecting, they don't know that they are missing these figures, do they?

A box set of a brand new Luke, Ben, R2, and 3PO would bring in new collectors AND many of the old ones too, right?

There is only ONE answer for re-using old figures - CHEAP.  Cash savings.  Easy money.  No development cost, only manufacturing cost.  CHEAP.  That's why we get re-packs instead of new figures.  All this "we want to bring in new collectors" crap is exactly that: crap.

If they truly want to sell these new collectors figures, then maybe they should offer those new collectors a VARIETY of figures to choose from?  It doesn't make sense to keep repacking the same ones?

If I were a new collector, introduced to the figures through the DVD sets, I'd automatically skip at least 6 of the 38 OTC figures (Vader, Chewie, R2, 3PO, Ben, Stormtrooper), because I'd already have them!  Wouldn't it have been in Hasbro's best interest not to repeat these repack figures?  Wouldn't they have sold more (cheap) repack figures if they had mixed up the variety a little?

That is my biggest problem with the OTC repack madness.  Why re-use figures over and over when, with just a minimum of effort in re-painting existing molds, things could have been improved?

The Endor set could have been better with generic Ewoks, the OTC carded line could have been better with different Repack choices to avoid repeating any figure released in the last year and/or figures in box sets like the Target cup sets, the TRU multipacks, the DVD box sets, etc.

Just got home from da bar where me and a few pals watched da Wolves beat da "Alleged Rapist, at best Adulterer" and the rest of his sorry squad of washed up losers.  :)

The LAkers better get to flipping that "switch" if they want to dispose of KG and his boyz.

Looks like R2D2 is denifately the PotJ version, despite the different picture on the back of the package and the checklist...

Do you think they've fixed the rocket/button atrocity or they just used an old pic for the list?

Note the old non-rocket button on fett:

9472 has carded pictures up for:

#12 R2-D2 (A New Hope)
#13 C-3PO (A New Hope)
#14 Boba Fett (Return of the Jedi)
#15 Obi-Wan Kenobi (A New Hope)
#16 Stormtrooper (A New Hope)
#17 Wicket (Return of the Jedi)
#18 Princess Leia (The Empire Strikes Back)
#19 Cloud Car Pilot (The Empire Strikes Back)
#20 Lobot (The Empire Strikes Back)

Pretty cool cards... if they weren't dang resculpts :(

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Are you all caught up?

Once my Endor Generals case gets here from NewForce next Tuesday, I'll be all caught up with the Saga carded figures.

The only thing that I'll still be hunting is the Anakin, Luke, and Leia figure w/Cup sets from Target.  Still haven't seen those buggers.

I'm beginning to hate SoCal.

First, the stupid Angels in 2002... nice job defending your title by the way.
Then, the stupid Ducks in 2003... nice job defending your conf championship by the way.

Now, the stupid LAkers.

At least there's no NFL team in the LA/Anaheim area to beat the Vikings next year as they head to the Super Bowl, baby!

Done correctly, vPTC (vintage Prequel Trilogy Collection) figures would rock...

Not to de-rail the Spirit Obi-Wan talk, but here's who I'd like to see in a vPTC line-up, complete with TPM and AotC "vintage" big photo, black/silver cards:

Qui-Gon Jinn
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Darth Maul
Darth Sidious

Anakin Skywalker (Jedi)
Padme Amidala
Mace Windu
Count Dooku

Obi-Wan Kenobi
3 Others TBD

I'd consider Yoda, but I think the vOTC Yoda could double for a vPTC Yoda if we were given a small saber.

Oh, yeah, but non-Spirit Obi-Wan would rock too :)

Jeff decrypts the NBA's secret intent behind this years draft...

1. Orlando - get T-Mac some help.  That way we can showcase him more on TNT and then when he's popular/super-star, move him to LA to replace aging vets.

2. L.A. Clippers - back-up plan.  Make the Clippers good in case LAkers can't hold on to "alleged rapist, #8" and implode.

3. Chicago - Knicks/Bulls rivalry must be restored for ratings sake, but Chi-town is still recovering from Jordan.  Need help since the dumb-ass crashed his bike.

I love the NBA draft conspiracy talk... so many times it "lucks out".  Like for instance LeBron, an OH native going to.. The Cleveland Cavs!

Too many times the draft has worked out all too neatly...

Cool Beans!

I just got an e-mail notice that my Endor Generals case has shipped from NewForce.  Now, I've just got to wait it out until June 1st for them to get here... which probably means I'll see tons of this wave at Target this weekend :P

Anyone still looking for the Star Destroyer wave or Endor General Han or Madine, I've got extras from the case for sale here.

I love this Han Solo figure.

I am trying to convince my wife that the new OTC Falcon, vOTC Han Solo and vOTC Chewbacca need a place of honor in the Living Room, but I think I'm losing the battle...

and why didn't Hasbro do this with the OTC version to begin with instead of wasting money on the POTJ Obi???

I want a non-Spirit Obi-Wan!

I guess they went with PotJ Obi-Wan because they were already molding him for the cup sets?  That's the only reason I can think of for doing that.  It would have made a lot more sense to re-use the mold like they did for Luke.  Oh well...

I, too, am looking forward to the "clean" Bespin Luke.

These are the type of changes that would be easy for the Big H to do and probably get a lot more people interested.  I can't see them re-tooling anyone or any parts, but I can see them changing the Paint Deco slightly (Like Vader Hoth and Luke).  In fact, this "clean" Bespin Luke is probably cheaper for them to do because he takes less paint applications than the original.

Here's a quick look at how they could have released "old" figures, but change them up quickly and easily to be "new" figures.

#17 Wicket (Return of the Jedi) - repaint and call him generic "Ewok", fans can fill in the name later.  In fact, repaint him twice (dark brown and gray) and reuse the same package a la the Luke variations

#22 Greedo (A New Hope) - A few different colors and he's "Beedo" the rodian in Jabba's Palace

#27 IG-88 (The Empire Strikes Back) - remold in a light gray and call him IG-72, use the photo from the Bespin scene where he's laying in a pile of junk as Chewie retrieves 3PO from the ugnaughts.

So many wasted ideas...
