Original Trilogy Collection / Re: No! I changed my mind!
« on: July 22, 2004, 02:51 PM »
I bet, because the vOTC figures are so awesome, that we never see them again.  :(

I said it before and I'll say it again: I really think this is a one-shot deal.  That's why I'm not taking any chances and buying my second set to open now.

I would have to imagine that in the future, it will be cheaper for the Big H to crank out the 15th version of Cantina Han, PotJ Ben, Mechanic Chewie, et al instead of going back to run more of these vOTC figures.

When you think about it, the "regular" figures must be cheaper to make.  Where is the incentive for Hasbro to recard vOTC R2-D2 with all those extra accessories/parts, when they can just crank out more PotJ sculpt R2?  Same goes for almost all of the vOTC figures.  There is a cheaper alternative ready to go.

You may say, "Yeah, but they already have the molds for vOTC figures so that should keep costs down since most of the cost of a figure is in tooling."  That may be true, but it's even cheaper to use a less complicated existing mold.  There are a lot fewer parts/joints involved in Mechanic Chewie than vOTC Chewie.  Therefore, there is less cost associated with re-running a batch of Mechanic Chewie than vOTC Chewie.

So, that is why I think that Hasbro will take the easy road and keep cranking out PotJ Ben instead of ever re-releasing vOTC Ben or any of the others.  If there is one thing I've learned from OTC, it's that the future of this line in non-movie years is to cheap out as much as possible.  :(

Now, I could be wrong and eventually they will all get re-released after Ep3, but I really doubt it.

Or Chewie's or R2's autograph too...

I guess the poor kid needs the money since he's such a bad actor he hasn't really worked since Ep1 :(

I hope that the Jedi Scenes # 3/4 or 5/6 or what ever we are calling them are just mock-ups.

Kinda like how the "Cantina Set 2" they have at SDCC doesn't match the pics on the Hasbro website (different Ben).

Maybe?   :-\

Otherwise, yeah those Jedi packs blow.

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: OTC Carry Cases?
« on: July 22, 2004, 09:27 AM »
What is this the 5th or 6th release of this figure?

Sadly... it's more like #7 for Cantina Han.

1 - CommTech carded
2 - 2003 Saga carded
3 - 2004 HoF carded
4 - 2004 OTC carded
5 - Target Figure w/Cup set (wave 2)
6 - Sam' Club OTC Falcon Pack-In
7 - C-3PO Carry Case Pack-In

And we probably haven't seen the last of him either...

:(

Thought I'd go ahead and post this here...

I actually like this one... kinda.

Blue Snaggletooth fits in well with the vintage line theme.  Ben = eh, but I don't mind that one.  Walrus man = ugh.

I hope that K-Mart doens't charge too much for these, but I thnk they are gonna end up around $27 :(

Hmmm...

I like them all.

No surprise there... :)

Now the trick will be getting me to stop at just TWO of those RotJ Stormtroopers.

Info coming in from Comic-Con...

Looks like this set will include a kit-bashed Kaduu w/feathery saddle, kitbashed articulated knees Tarpals, Gungan warrior with minor paint changes, PotJ Security Battle Droid in neutral color, and Naboo Royal Guard with minor paint deco changes!

I think I'll have to grab this one for the new Kaduu w/Tarpals and the army-building figures that it offers... repacks I finally agree with!

This just in from Comic-Con!

The Sam's Club exclusive OTC Falcon not only includes the previously mentioned Cantina Han and Mechanic Chewie (ugh), but also includes MMC C-3PO, PotJ Ben, PotJ R2, and CT Luke!

That's 6 figures!

Too bad they are all repacks that I already have...  :-\

Guess I can pass on this one for sure and just pick up the regular version.

This just in from Comic-Con!

C-3PO case includes Cantina Han and Mechanic Chewie!

Darth Vader carry case includes Carkoon Fett and Stormtrooper!

I wish I could be more excited, but more repacks = me no buy :(

Original Trilogy Collection / Coruscant Wave
« on: July 20, 2004, 04:58 PM »
Well,

I thought I'd start a thread here in hopes of seeing these guys at SDCC this week...

The GH Swami and a few others have forseen that the first wave after the 38 OTC repacks will be the Coruscant wave: Pablo Jill (Jedi), Sly Moore (Palpy's Aide), and Senator Yarua (Wookiee Senator).

I think that, perhaps, the forthcoming Coruscant wave may have accidently been confirmed, as reports are coming in that the latest issue of the SW Insider has this to say:

"since we never saw Sly's hands in Episode II, Hasbro was set to give her birdlike talons in an exercise of creative license. However, this was nicked just in case her hands are visible in Episode III."

Hmmm...

Let's hope we find out more from SDCC!
