TV-9D9 / Re: The Clone Wars - Season Three Discussion Thread

I'm officially geeked for tonight.  ;D

Can't wait to see Shaak Ti, Sgt Bric, and Clone Number 99. Looking forward to some awesome Kamino battle scenes too.

I wish they would do a late night repeat of this like they used to do.

And whose idea was it to release Season 2 on DVD AFTER the start of Season 3?  ::)

I would have liked to have caught up a little before the new shows started. All the major networks have figured this out long ago.

Assume it's the same DVD pack-in with both sets?

I'm not generally impressed by the more generic clones, but I do love the droid finger necklace. Great addition.

Awesome...hoping to see these 10/1 as indicated at SDCC. Probably wishful thinking, but it would be pretty cool to have some new toys out with the premier this week and all.

Well, based on the photo above, I actually think the new number looks a lot more unobtrusive than the wordy crap Kenner used to print all over their stuff.

Not sure why they just couldn't make it smaller though, like the microline printing on checks.

Big props to Jeff for hooking me up with a finished L8-L9 BAD for a very reasonable $10. Quick shipping and good customer service...much appreciated!

It's like trying to make Dooku's Solar Sailer but with a rigid structure holding it open.

I would applaud Hasbro if they ever made Dooku's Solar Sailer.

The Sailer and the Geonosian fighter have been at the top of my list forever to be done in the animated style TCW line. Probably long shots, but then again they can only make so many starfighter repaints. (I think)

Man, great news today from YodaNews' QA, regarding the Cad Bane in Clone Disguise figure that was scrapped last year:

"Hasbro: This figure was pulled at the last minute for use in a promotion that ultimately didn't happen. That's the unfortunate part. The good news is that we are close to getting him into a mainline Battle Pack in the back half of 2011. It's a cool figure and we can guarantee that he will come out some day. "

I am really looking forward to this, kind of an offbeat choice but seemed to be well-executed. Will he come with a wearable helmet too? Here's hoping.

Whew, sounds like we can put this rumor to rest...for awhile at least, courtesy of Sandtroopers' QA:

"Likewise, some fans have asked for Vintage-style versions of more modern characters and that too is an avenue that we have chosen not go down. Instead, we'll stick to the separate realistic and animated lines for now, each universe to itself."

Right on Hasbro!  :)

I think they're trying to give an honest perspective about what sells and what doesn't.  Historically action figures of female characters do not sell that well.  That's not discriminitory.  That's a business statement on how well one class of products sells compared with another.

Yeah, as I mentioned, I'm fine with them not making a toy if they don't think it will sell. That is all that needs to be said though. To say we're not making it because it is a girl's ship, is very ill-advised, all economics aside, IMHO. I understand the marketing component, I just think you have to be careful about how things are presented to the general public.

For example, there may be loads of market research that shows that Asian kids don't buy action figures. But you wouldn't want to cite that as a reason for not making Asian action figure characters. I've worked at several marketing companies, and that would be a HUGE misstep. You never want to exclude any demographic based on their perceived economic impact.

Just my 2 cents...I'm not really trying to blast Hasbro, I just think some of their responses come across as somewhat less than PC.

At least that's my guess to the matter.  They've seemingly had a lot of trouble with their factories in China for the past 2 years.

Maybe they should switch their production facilities back here to the Good old USA, might be easier for them to manage the quality control.

I don't see why they have to play the victim in that relationship. As the client, they should have ALL the leverage. "Hey, start doing a better job making our toys or we will take our business elsewhere". Enough of this wag the dog stuff.

^That was Hasbro's response to the JTA Q/A, too. When they send it off it's in pristine condition, but it gets damaged when it's handled. So Hasbro dodged the blame on this one pretty well.

They're not responsible for choosing the packaging material?

If it's the exact same box they used to ship the Vebbs, that's fine, because there were no such issues with that redemption.

But if they cut back and went to some kind of cheaper, less durable packaging, they at least bear some responsibility, IMO.

I can't say for sure because I haven't gotten one for comparison sake yet. I'll be VERY interested to see what they do with Sgt Bric though.

Whoever works PR for Hasbro really needs to step in and say, "Look, this is getting borderline-sexist, please stop commenting on the characters' gender as a justification for determining which properties get green lit for production."

I feel like they harp on that way too much. I have 2 daughters and resent the implication that the heroins and villainesses are somehow second class. The show has really strong female characters, and it's a disservice to the female fans to imply that they are insignificant from a marketing standpoint.

If they don't want to make a toy because they don't think it will sell, that's fine - just say that and leave it at that. But to characterize the decision as gender-influenced as misguided at best, and offensive at worst.

Imagine the outcry if you replaced the word "female" with "African-American" or "Hispanic". (IE: "it actually suffers as a kid vehicle given it's rather unusual shape and the fact it belongs to a Hispanic antagonist") All hell would break loose. Someone at Hasbro needs a little refresher sensitivity training, IMO.

Picked up another Slave I ultimate battle pack this morning.

This one is in better shape than the first one I grabbed. Still not perfectly mint - but since it was in better shape than the one I had (and I'm dying to open it) I went ahead and took the plunge.

If I find one in better shape down the line, I'll grab it (I'm in the same boat with the Vintage packaged AT-AT) but I can also live with the version I got now if I had to.

I'm looking forward to opening up this battlepack at some point this week!

I'm really jonesing to open mine too, but I don't think I can justify buying another just for that purpose. Curse this OCD!

In retrospect, I'm really glad I snagged this the first day I saw it at TRU a few weeks back. They have never re-stocked since then in my area for some reason.

I'm in Atlanta for business and checked out a TRU today. They had no CW UBP's on the shelves, but 2 still in boxes above the aisle. Nice.  ::)

The Clone is a very VERY plain white Clone with virtually no decoration on it besides black on the visor and bodyglove, making it I guess sort of a variant paintjob.

I KNEW it!!  ;D

Well, I always suspected that this figure was at least a slight variation over previous versions. Glad to hear I may have been right, definitely helps justify the expense.
