The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Re: Recent Clone Wars Finds/Purchases
« on: April 19, 2010, 06:17 PM »
Well, it's good to know they are still shipping, at least. It really seems like all the retail outlets around here have stopped ordering new product altogether. I wonder if it's just a general retail malaise or if Hasbro is having a hard time supplying new product.

The last new thing our TRU's got were the TCW Walmart Exclusive 2 packs. I'm not kidding...these showed up just last week. Not a single new figure, BP, etc though.

I'm VERY close to breaking down and ordering the Jedi Showdown and Holocron Heist BP's online. I have already started scouring eBay, but those auctions are always more expensive than the brick and mortar prices. I just have this fear that as soon as I order them I will find them in a store.

This one really puzzles me. Those things have been out for months, and I am very thorough in my store hunts, so I seriously doubt I could have missed them. Even the Targets that have sold through their BP's don't seem to be re-stocking.

I am starting to suspect that they only made a small run of these in the red/white packaing, and will be releasing them en masse months from now in the new packaging. Still it doesn't explain why these have been easily found across the country at Targets and TRU's, but none have shown up here.  >:(

These are literally the last 2 things I need until Fall, it's like being so close to the finish line but perpetually coming up short. Ugh...

Sorry, my SW anthropology is not up to snuff. Is Sebulba a Dugg? Where do I know these things from...they looked familiar.

Pretty cool episode.

Thanks, I am familiar with Goo Gone and can readily attest to the downsides you mentioned. I'll have to see if I can find the Un-Du in stores somewhere, sounds promising.

The Legacy Collection '08-'10 / Re: Legacy Collection Comic Packs
« on: April 14, 2010, 03:23 PM »
I saw a full set of the new Comic Packs at Target this morning and had to bite on the Stormtrooper/Blackhole set. I really loved that comic strip as a kid. This fits nicely into my niche collecting of offbeat Star Wars swag. Plus it's just nice to spend some money on a new toy for a change...seems like forever.

Just noticed my check was cashed Friday...hoping my Vebb for openers is on the way soon.

The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Will there be a CW Slave I This Year?
« on: April 13, 2010, 05:00 PM »
I do think it's a good bet we could see a TCW Slave I, depending on how prominent it is in the season finale marketable Hasbro thinks it could be.

I'm not sure how they would squeeze this one in this year though, unless it were to hit right before X-Mas. There are at least 6 other TCW vehicles slated for a Fall release we already know about. (Xanadu Blood, HMP, Swamp Speeder, Plo Koon's Starfighter, re-deco Interceptor tank, and the R/C Hailfire Droid)

I guess they'll figure out a way to slot it in if they feel the reward is there. I'm down.

Figured this would be the best thread to submit this question for the group:

Anyone have any good suggestions for removing stickers from vintage toys? Specifically, the Star Destroyer playset base?

I bought one a few weeks back but the stickers are atrocious...ripped, faded, taped, many not even in the right location. I've resigned myself to a restoration rather than discarding it and looking for a better version.

I'm just wondering what is the most effective and least potentially damaging method for geting the old stickers off.

I'm very hesitant to use anything sharp or abrasive, or caustic. So razor blades, exacto knives, lighter fluid, etc are proabably out.

Any tips? THANKS A MILLION!

LOL...it's funny cause it's true...

That front section would also pass for a good industrial floor vac, or linoleum polisher.

Good points by all.

I don't want to get drawn into the Twilight argument again, because I know from previous experience I am alone in my feelings on that one, but I will try to make the same point in a more general way.

Pretty much NONE of the vehicles they have made for the TCW line would qualify as iconic by Hasbro's standards. You could make a case for the Turbo Tank, AT-TE, and the Gunship, but outside of that it's a real stretch. I don't see how one could objectively quantify the Y-Wing or Shadow Arc as more iconic than the Twilight within the context of the show. That's all I meant, wasn't trying to diss Plo. I like Meat Curtains.

Again, fine with them not making it, just don't like the implicit disparaging of the thing as an excuse to pass on it. I'd much prefer just hearing that they don't feel the line (or economy)  can support any big sized ships and they don't feel it would be a viable option to get the price down while still featuring all the options and "playability" they would want to include. No problem.

Likewise, I wish they could just say they don't want to make a figure because they don't think it will sell. "Obscurity" is not really the proper term to use for bypassing certain characters. I think "Marketability" is the real issue.

3056
Kind of a cop-out if you ask me. If Hasbro doesn't want to make those figures because they don't think they will sell, that's fine, just say that. But to marginalize them as "obscure characters" is insulting and asinine. I could rattle off the names of dozens of figures they have made that had a LOT less screen time than Duchess Satine, and a LOT less speaking lines as well. (Seriously, the Mando guard isn't more obscure than her? Puh-lease)

It's the same tired argument they trot out against making the Twilight too. "It's not an iconic vehicle". AYFKM? How iconic was Plo Koon's starfighter?  ::)

They can make whatever marketing decisions they like, I just want them to admit that they are producing toys solely based on what they think will sell, and there is virtually no correlation to the object/character's actual presence on the show.

Bane's pretty badass though, and as much as Embo's a nod to a guy from a Kurisawa movie, Bane's a nod to Clint Eastwood's silent stranger from Spaghetti Western's...  I consider them similarly rooted, just different styles.  I thought that actually made him even cooler then last week.

Yeah, except the silent stranger was always a GOOD GUY. Bane is just an evil, greedy little weasel.

I get that they're caricatures, I just think they missed the whole point with Bane. Trying to kill those Jedi kids was beyond the pale, IMO.

I actually like Hondo.

3058
What is meant by the phrase "movie style"? Does that mean realistic, like the live action films? Or does it refer specifically to the Clone Wars feature film release? Is there really any difference between the TV show 3D CGI and the film? It looks identical to me.

I think it's a safe bet we will never see another figure in the Tartakovsky styling, so I don't want to waste any votes on that. (Although I do wish I had gotten my Roron Corobb, dammit)

Here goes (no particular order):

1. Chancellor Palpatine
2. Duchess Satine
3. Nute Gunray
4. Geonosian(s)
5. Barris Offee
6. Sugi
7. Seripas
8. Those 2 lesbo chicks from the Lightsaber Lost episode
9. Kul Teska
10. Embo, Embo, Embo!!!

Embo is the coolest frigging character to come out of that show yet, none of the campy cheesiness of Cad or Hondo, and twice the badassery. He has instantly become my favorite new character. Kudos to Dave Filoni for the voice work too.

Aside from the Geonosis arc, that was the best episode of the season, hands down.
