The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Re: 2010 "Best Of" the Clone Wars
« on: December 28, 2010, 12:52 PM »
Whew, I can't even remember everything that came out this past year. Here's my Quick-Hit list:

BEST FIGURE(S): Hard to narrow this down as they hit so many home runs in this year, but I'll go with:

ZOMBIE GEONOSIAN (This thing is all kinds of awesome - excellent sculpt, detachable limbs, great articulation. I just wish he stood up better with that huge gun)
SHAAK TI (Eyebrows aside, this crushed ANYTHING from the Realistic side, IMHO, especially that godawful Jedi Arena sculpt)
EMBO (Everything about this guy rules - articulated bowcaster?!?! You betcha! I bought 3)
FLAMETHROWER CLONE (Pretty much anything made from the Geonosis arc ruled)

Honorable mentions: Pre Vizsla, Aurra Sing, Cato Parasitti, Robonino

BEST DELUXE SET - The AT-RT repaint from the Geonosian arc with Boil...love that deco.

BEST BATTLE PACK - Mandos or ARC Troopers...take yer pick

BEST VEHICLE - Nothing wowed me this year like the Octuptarra Droid, but I'll go with the HMP Droid Gunship. New sculpt, good functionality, good size.

BEST EXCLUSIVE - TRU's Slave I UBP...after the sale prices kicked in, this ended up being a pretty good value. Plus we got Bossk!

HARDEST THINGS TO FIND THIS PAST YEAR: Magnaguard figure - only saw him once at retail and back them I was on the hunt a ridiculous amount of the time. And I never saw the last 2 red/white BP's - Jedi Showdown and Holocron Heist. Only SW toys I have NEVER seen at a store. Absurd, I know...we just did not get ANY around here. I ahd to order mine off HTS.

Overall, it was a great year though...the line is really coming into its own I think. All I would ask for 2011 is more new stuff, fewer repacks, and better spacing of waves without getting crushed or waiting for months.

Dude, awesome scores and pictures! Sounds like you cleaned up big time on those...much better than eBay prices.

I have not heard of the AT-AT Driver variant - what color is the "normal" logo?

The dude I won the Ewok Wagon from on eBay returned my money and is claiming now that the item was "possibly" damaged in a fire and he didn't want to hold on to my money while he figured out if it was ok or not.  ???

I'm not letting this drop though because I suspect there are some shenanigans going on. Either someone made him a better offer after the auction closed or he was not satified with my winning bid price. Either way, tough luck. I plan to ask him to honor the original bid anf if not, flame him badly with negative feedback.

FYI, nice new packaged shot of this bad boy up at Sandtroopers now. Good stuff.

Funny, I hadn't even noticed that until you mentioned it. I can't imagine any reason why he would be dropped though. It's a figure they've already mass produced previously so there couldn't be production issues. And they already have 4 "new" figures in this wave, so it seems unlikely they would substitute something else new, like Jet or Cad Bane in disguise. (seriously Hasbro - WHEN?!?!)

The Vintage Collection / Re: Big Items of the Future!
« on: December 28, 2010, 09:07 AM »
After seeing the new slate of Lego releases, which I find are often a great tip-off for items forthcoming in the 3.75" line, I have concluded that I really, really want next year's "BIG" item to be this:

7930  Bounty Hunter Assault Gunship US $49.99

Sorry, I can't link to a pic at work, but this thing is freaking sweet. And it actually has some personality; it's not just something straight off the Republic assembly line. They could pack in a couple of extra figs or maybe even a custom speeder bike and this thing is good to go.

I would be way more excited about this than any of the various shuttle options.

For those of us who know nothing about the line, are these actually action figures or just statues? Are they articulated? If so, how many points? If not, how do you swap out the outfits? Are they hard plastic or more of a malleable texture?

I like the SS stuff in terms of realism but I want something poseable.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Comic Book Thread
« on: December 27, 2010, 11:08 AM »
So I've starting getting back into comics again recently, no new stuff, but attempting to pick up all the numerous variant covers and things I missed over the years from Image, Wildstorm, etc.

I've had to resort to buying off of eBay because none of the titles I need are in any of the comic shops around here and for some reason none can ever be found at any of the conventions that come through town.

Anyway, I got an email over the weekend inviting me to join the "eBay Super Comic Collectors Group" or some such thing and I'm wondering if this is just some kind of phishing scam or actually something legit. I have been an avid eBayer for over fifteen years and have never heard of them having any kind of dedicated user groups or anything like that.

Has anyone else heard of this?

Yeah, I would definitely prefer that they stop making BP's that are 100% re-packs. I loathe buying these, even at the cheaper prices. I would love to see these revert to store exclusives like the Target ones last Fall. Those were sweet.

At this point, I am happy with less product, and more emphasis on all new stuff.

Thanks Jesse, I fired them once or twice accidentally, so it figured it must be something stupid like that.

I'll co-sign Greg's comments...this thing is just boring to me. I'm not saying it's not a well done effort, I just think it is completely underwhelming. Even the "distressed" paint apps just seem sloppy to me.

Anyway, it's a good lesson not to buy any more vehicles to open. I'm definitely going to try and return this and get my money back.

Wow, really?  It's to-scale, it's about the size of most of the vehicles in the $25-ish range...  It's hyper detailed with computer consoles, controls, the seatbelts are on it in the film (I didn't have trouble getting mine to function easily enough though), and the missiles filed ok on mine and stayed ok (enough...  they fire a LITTLE easily, kind of like the original Hailfire droid's).

So how do you fire the missiles exactly? I honestly cannot figure it out. There does not seem to be any sort of button to activate them...

Yeah, I was surprised at my own disappointment too...I really don't tend to buy vehicles as openers but this one seemed cool at the time. Now I'm just completely non-plussed. I'm actually considering returning it somehow if I can get it all back in the box properly.

I finally opened my spare of this today, and man what a disappointment. The thing is smaller than I envisioned and it doesn't do anything.

I must have spent a half hour trying to figure out how to get the missiles to fire and finally gave up. I can barely get them to stay in place. And it's a serious PITA to re-fasten those seat-belts.

Kinda wished I had opted to open the Gunship instead.

I was stunned to find this today on clearance for $24.98...I kid you not. They only had 1 left but it was in good shape. I had to walk away because it's not part of my personal focus and the unwieldy box size would make secondary shipping next to impossible.

Still, I thought this was a great deal and hopefully you guys that are interested will find these marked down similarly near you. I didn't stop at any other Targets so no idea if this was a regional thing or just a fluke.

Dang, they really did make a mess of that, didn't they?

I just don't see the point. There are half a dozen ways that could have explained the Nightsister/Zabrak connection without having to rewrite history.

Just let Dathomir be the homeworld of the Rancor and Kwa. What't the point of throwing in the Zabraks too? The planets aren't even close to each other - Dathomir is in the freaking Outer Rim after all.

I just chalk it all up to intellectual laziness. It's really not that hard to manage continuity sensibly, even with as many properties as they have going.

Sweet, thanks for the pic. It is hard to discern for sure from the size of the photo, but it looks like all re-pack swag as we surmised. Still, I'll be obligated to pick this up for completion's sake.

I need to read that article, because it just sounds all kinds of mixed up. WTF is Leland Chee anyway? Shouldn't Filoni be directly handling any retcon of existing EU?

Asajj is NOT a Zabrak.

Iridonia IS the Zabrak homeworld.

Darth Maul's "skin patterns" were tattoos, not natural colorings.

Female Zabrak absolutely have horns, and this has been established clearly on the show already: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Sugi

Ugh, my absolute biggest pet peeve with any entertainment is when they can't keep their own continuity straight. How freaking hard is that? Just hire geeks like us to police the content!
