The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Re: Clone Wars Wave 13 (aka 2010 Wave 3)

Great success today...I scored all of TCW Wave 3 at only my fourth stop this morning. Walmart had a single case freshly stocked on the pegs, so I got all 4.  ;D

Thanks again to all for the head's up these were hitting, I wouldn't have thought to start checking so early otherwise.

Still no sign of the new BP waves, but I'm not about to complain.

I REALLY like the MagnaGuard, an exceptional upgrade IMO. Snow Rex is a little less cool than I had expected, mine looks a little goofy because one of the ear flaps is a bit splayed out. The Droid and Snowbi are solid if unspectacular.

In the latest round of Q&A, Hasbro alluded to making less of the Sport Skiff compared to the other selections in this wave, or something to that effect. Anyone else catch that?

You magnificent bastards...I salute you all!

Taking a half day tomorrow just in the hopes of tracking these down...

Thanks, that makes sense...I figured it had to be something like that. For some reason I guess I imagined that the lettering and date was not part of the mold, but some kind of imprint applied after the casting process. Not the case, I see.

Thanks Jayson!

Wish we had some JD peeps in Florida to update on this...

Interestingly, I have seen TONS of TCW Wave 3 here recently, mostly in Targets, but Wave 2 has completely disappeared. I really wanted another Hondo and Aayla for openers, but you can't find any of that wave anywhere around here anymore. I never even saw this wave hit at Walmart. I saw them first at TRU and snagged them, but they never restocked after that first case. I saw a few more at Target but they didn't last long and were definitely never in the numbers that I have seen for Wave 3.

I'm starting to wonder if those will ever trickle out again.

Oh, and like others, I have seen a recent glut of older TCW waves hit the shelves, mostly that horrid Padme assortment. I think something must have gone down at the warehouse and they had to dump those in a hurry.

Should I be alarmed that my vintage TIE Interceptor is stamped 1978, but the box says 1983? I assume this is just some kind of generic licensing date and not an actual release date stamp?

I got this in the mail yesterday and it is super awesome, great condition, but I found the date thing a little odd. My Vader TIE has the same thing though, so maybe it's just a generic stamp.

I caught that too...very interesting. One would have to assume the Aurra Sing/Pre Viszla batch is Wave 1, so what happened to Wave 2? Why would they skip over that entirely to show a few random selections from a later wave? I'm not complaining or anything, it's always great to get sneak peeks, I just found that curious.

That camo clone just got released in the new GH wave, BTW...

The Vintage Collection / Re: Drop in Collector Interest/Figures?

From the few searches I've done lately on Ebay I've noticed how a lot of auctions are dominated by "Buy it Now" sellers with frankly unrealistic expectations.  I don't know whether that's a reflection of the auctions I'm looking at, a change of selling style by sellers, or whether the auction sellers have left the site because of policy changes (like JJ mentioned).

"Wildly unrealistic expectations" is how I would describe it. I agree 100% - this is just lazy and greedy, IMO. Do some research and see what stuff is actually selling for before slapping some insane price tag on your auction.

I wish I could post some examples here but eBay is blocked for me at work.

One of the most irritating things for me on the retail landscape right now is the low quantities of new stuff stores are ordering. They get a case of new stuff, it sells out quickly, and then nothing. I think if they ordered larger quantities of new stuff and put it all out on the shelves at once they would have more sales and less junk hanging around. Target seems to have noticed this lately as I have seen more multi-case displays for the new TCW stuff (well, Wave 2 anyway) but not so much Walmart. TRU is just bizarre. They get a new case of figures here and once that sells it takes MONTHS to restock the same wave.

They need to understand there is a limited window of collector interest. This is why most of the DVD's in stores are new stuff, not old titles. Keep it fresh, and people will become regular customers. (I know it's a lot more complicated than that but this was just an idle rant)

You can see the lack of interest in fan forums and even eBay as all SW prices have dropped like no tomorrow. They do more harm by having such long droughts.

That's interesting, I am an avid eBayer and I have noticed just the opposite with the vintage auctions. Those prices have really skyrocketed since the end of last year. Maybe collectors are using the lull to fill in gaps with their older stuff?

I don't have a problem with $100 for a Blue Snags, but $60+ for a lousy A-Wing pilot?!?! That is discouraging.

JTA reports this morning that the new BP's have been spotted at TRU as well. Hooray!

Our local TRU's restock today, so I will head out shortly and report back with any findings.

I don't get why people are so down on Brian's all the time.  Yeah, they have expensive prices on new stuff like this, but so do a lot of other online retailers.   No one is forced to buy from them - if the guy wants to sell figures at twice retail and some people are willing to pay that, then where is the harm exactly?  It's not my cup of tea, but I'm not going to put them down for it.  I have only ordered from Brian's once - they had a case of Legacy figures that worked out to $5-6 per figure with the sale they were offering, but seemed like a nice enough company to me.

I see where you're headed, and far be it from me to disagree with anyone who has a keen appreciation for Mitch :), but I guess I see it differently.

I don't have a problem per se with a mark-up at individual sites to cover things like shipping, handling, overhead, advertising, etc. That's to be expected.  but I think it is unethical to jack prices on particular figures in the SAME case assortment just in an effort to squeeze more money out of people based on some perceived demand. It's not like those 2 figures cost them anything extra. It's pure greed, IMO.

I just think there is a certain obligation to price responsibly for your consumers. Just because someone will pay it, doesn't mean that it's a fair price. But yes, everyone does have the option of voting with their wallet, so to speak.

I really don't want to derail this thread though, so suffice to say it's a good sign these 4 figures are now hitting online, as that should portend a retail arrival in the coming weeks. :)

The Legacy Collection / Re: Legacy Collection Comic Packs
« on: March 15, 2010, 12:33 PM »
I know I'm pretty late, but what exactly is the matter w/ the Pluorr comic that has made Hasbro pull it from it's Walmart initial run? I thought they had pulled it due to manafacturing problems. But from what I've read it seems that the comic itself is iffy.   ???

I have asked this same question over and over at multiple SW sites and have NEVER gotten a satisfactory answer. I honestly think it is all complete BS. They probably just didn't want to shell out the $$$.

What is so offensive about a bald chick for crying out loud?
