Watto's Junk Yard / If You Lost Your Collection....
« on: May 7, 2004, 01:33 PM »
I wasn’t sure where to put this, since it doesn’t “specifically” apply to vintage, or Saga, or OTC, but collections in general.  Hopefully this is an ok place to put it, sorry if it isn’t.  I don’t mean for this to be a negative post, just something I was thinking about.  If you ever lost your collection, due to theft, flood, fire, natural disaster, etc…..would you try to get it back?  Would you just go after a certain focus?  Would you try to pick up your favorites from your collection, maybe 10-30 figures, a couple of ships, a couple of beasts and just have one nice little display shelf?  Would you just start collecting from what figures were currently out and in the future?  Or, would you just hang it up and quit?  I guess when I was thinking of this, I was thinking mainly of Star Wars collecting…but it can apply to anything and everything you might collect.  I think honestly, if for some reason I ever lost my collection…I wouldn’t try to replace each and every bit of it.  Not that I don’t enjoy it now, I just don’t know if I would.  I’d probably get a condensed collection using one of a few options….(1) a handful of figures from each movie - favorites (2) focus on Original Trilogy collecting only, or (3) pick up “ultimate” type figures (such as upcoming VOTC figs), and main ships from the OT.  As far as other collecting, I don't have much else...mainly Marvel stuff.  With what little I have, I'd probably try to pick up what I had...or at least a Spidey, and a few X-Men.  I hope no one here ever has to go through anything like this (not just because of collection reasons), this is more just a hypothetical question and I was curious what some of you thought.

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Dagobah wave
« on: May 6, 2004, 04:27 PM »
Exactly the way I've been feeling.  I've never done that before, and don't collect carded (save for a few extras here and there)...but this cardback makes it tempting.  However, budget and space should keep me in line.......it should anyways  :)

Thanks for posting those Scott.  Man, those sure look purdy to me.  This is a line I am tempted to buy even the re-releases, just because they look so nice on those cards.  With many people finding the Endor Generals now, this wave shouldn't be too far off now.  I wish they would have started with the OTC packaging at the beginning of 2004...with the Hoth, Tatooine, Jabba, etc. waves.  Granted, many will probably be re-carded, but it would have been nice to start fresh in 2004.  Thanks again for the image...nice.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Wal Mart Sucks
« on: May 6, 2004, 03:49 PM »
Yeah, sometimes the Wal-Marts do seem hit and miss.  We have one we visit every so often (located in Fremont, Nebraska) that has always been very clean and easier to get around in than others (still not as good as Target, but one of the better Wal-Marts I've seen).  Their Star Wars selection has been bupkis lately too...but they do seem to do a better job with upkeep there.

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Pegwarmer of the Year Award

One of the Wal-Marts nearest us has had nothing but about 15-20 Padme Pilots on their pegs since 2002, and they are buried in dust.  Why they don't clear them out, I have no idea.

Although I know these waves are both relatively new, I just thought I'd post in case anyone has happened upon extras of these figures in their areas.  We, along with many others, have been experiencing a dry spell and don't really have anything past the Tatooine Wave here (Hoth wave really in most places)....plus, we're in the middle of packing/moving over the next month so I don't think I'll have a lot of time to go out looking either.  I was hoping to pay retail for these figures, and card condition isn't a big concern to me since I'm an opener.  I'm looking for the following:

Saga Dengar
Saga Bossk
Saga General Madine
Saga General Lando Calrissian
Saga Han Solo in AT-ST Disguise
Saga Ultra Ewok w/Glider

If anyone has extras to spare, please just let me know.  Thanks!

Its funny, I've been thinking about this lately too.  For some reason, my last few visits to Wal-Mart (actually, visits for the last few months) have been quite frustrating.  We stop there occasionally, to check out the Star Wars section (haven't gotten a single figure at Wal-Mart in probably 6 months)...and every once in awhile we do some grocery shopping there if we are there anyways (along with toiletries, etc.)  I will admit they do have some good prices on some things like that, but if I could at all avoid shopping there, I would.  My wife and I are both Target people...we really enjoy shopping there, its never so crowded you have to ram your way through the aisles (plus, the aisles are nice and spacious), their prices aren't much higher than Wal-Mart (or often the same), and they, at least around here, have better toy selections (although no place has had anything lately).  I agree with what Scott said, the Targets around here are just nicer, cleaner, and easier to get around in.  Plus, I think in many cases, the quality of stuff is a little bit better at Target...more organized, and better kept.

Although this could probably go in either this thread, or the DVD one, or one of its own...I thought I'd start it here for now.  Are there any television series that you would like to see brought to DVD (that haven't been already)?  There seem to be more and more showing up all the time, but still many that are missing and could be brought back.  Are there any you currently own or are working toward owning?  Just curious which ones everyone would like to see.  Personally, we only have seasons of Simpsons and Futurama on DVD for now, although others have been tempting as well.  I know some people don't think it is necessary to have DVDs of shows that still consistently show reruns, but sometimes it is fun to have your favorites.  Anyways, here's some I'd like to see:

Seinfeld (one of our favorite shows, I think it is rumored to be starting later this year with Season 1)
Scrubs (another favorite of ours, and a show we could probably watch over and over)
Arrested Development (only one season done, still not confirmed for a second one, but we find this show hilarious.  If you've never seen it, I might suggest giving it a try....if its ever on again)
That 70s Show (not sure if I'd buy this one or not, but one of the other shows we watch on a consistent basis...might pick up a season here or there)
Clone Wars Animated Series  :P (Just had to throw this one out there, although it isn't as much of a several season set type of thing like other shows)

There are others that would be tempting as well, and some that are already out that we just haven't splurged on yet.  I kind of like the idea of having season sets on DVD of TV series, so you can watch them whenever you want....troubles sleeping, bored on a weekend afternoon, etc.  Anyways, any shows you'd like to see brought to DVD...or favorites you currently have?

I saw that article the other day too Scott.  Its funny how this show has just kind of faded away.  This was one of our "can't miss" shows for awhile, when it was in its prime on Wednesday nights...and then I thought it was cancelled.  Then it all of a sudden showed up during the summer, at odd times (Mondays sometimes if I remember correctly), and I again thought it was overwith...and now I see the final "season" is this summer.  I can't say I have seen a whole lot of the show for the past couple years now, but when we used to watch, it sure was funny.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: RIP Friends
« on: May 6, 2004, 09:44 AM »
We will definitely be tuning in tonight.  I know that a lot of people have started to either quit watching, or even dislike Friends, particularly over the past few years, but I guess that seems to always happen with something that is so popular.  Look at Star Wars...it became "cool" to not like it in some people's circles.  To be honest, my wife and I have pretty much watched this show religiously from beginning to end.  Some are funnier than others, and although we're sad to see it go in some ways...I can see where it is time too.  They are getting old enough now (the characters) where it has run its course most likely.  We've always enjoyed watching it though, just kind of puts us in a good mood when we see it.  I hope the finale goes well.....we were/are HUGE Seinfeld fans, and I thought the finale of that show stunk.  Anyways....yes, we'll be tuned in tonight for sure.

The Bullpen / Marvel Legends
« on: May 5, 2004, 03:44 PM »
Along those same "Spidey villain" lines....the Carnage figure is out and about now, isn't it?  Has anyone picked it up/what do you think of it?  I wasn't sure if I was going to pick it up, but its always nice to have more villains too.

10979
I'll agree with that sentiment....I can't stand it when there are commercials/previews on a DVD that you aren't allowed to skip.  I know that I bought my wife the Lion King DVD last fall, and we have to watch all of that crap prior to the movie every time.  At least we haven't been able to skip it.  Quite frustrating :).

The Bullpen / Marvel Legends
« on: May 5, 2004, 02:58 PM »
I agree with you fully though, I'd really like to see comic versions of J.J.J. and Mary Jane as well.  I would kind of like to get the whole "cast of characters" from Spidey, but I don't know how likely that is to happen.  Hobgoblin (and Rhino) were the two I was thinking about going back and picking up too, thanks for the recommendations.  I didn't mention Green Goblin, because I kind of like the looks of the one in the S6 pack.  I'm not crazy about the Black Cat in there either, just as you.  I'm also waiting on the box set for a version of Venom and Doc Ock, although I really like that Marvel Legends version of Ock that will probably be coming sometime next year now.

I hope they get around to some more villains in the Spidey line...wouldn't mind seeing a Sandman, Kingpin, maybe Mysterio, Vulture, etc.  Some of the other, maybe lesser known to casual fans, villains.  I agree, a comic Mary Jane is a must for this line though.  I also wouldn't mind seeing them put out an "Ultimate Spider-man" version of Spidey, if they are going to do variants of him anyways.  Thanks for all of the info, I really appreciate it!
