Other Toy Lines / Re: Lord of the Rings: Armies of Middle Earth
« on: July 31, 2003, 10:47 AM »
I have been considering collect some LOTR figures, although I wasn't sure which line to go with, the Toy Biz one, or these new 3" scale figures.  Are any of you collecting/going to collect these?  Also, is there a good site online that provides information on this line, and what is coming, etc.?  I know there was a great LOTR toy site somewhere, but I can't remember the address now.  Also, does anyone know, is the KBToys deal the only was to get a Gollum figure in the 3" line?  Something about $40 purchase, free Gollum figure...  Anyways, thanks for any help or advice you might have on these toy lines.

I'm really looking forward to this movie as well, this little "sneak peek" looks amazing, and really makes a person look forward to December :).

While at a wedding in a different part of the state this past weekend, I was able to pick up the two remaining OT sets that I needed (X-wing, Fast Through the Forest).  Now if they would only continue this line, or at least offer something here or there...I'd like to see characters like Boba Fett and Yoda get the Playskool treatment :).

Hall of Justice / Re: Mattel Batman

Funny, I was thinking the same thing when I recently saw some pics online of the Zipline Batman, its not a figure line I want to get into, but I thought about picking this particular one up, just because it is so well done.  Plus, I always had a Batman fig when I was a kid.

Well, I finally picked up my first figure of this line, the one that started it all, He-Man himself.  This figure is incredibly old news to most (if not all) of you, but I wanted to start somewhere, and I figured, what better place than He-Man?  I really like the looks of these figures, and I hope I am able to continue collecting them.  I know it will be difficult getting into the line so late, so I'm not sure how it will work out.  I'm just going to chip away a little bit at a time (my collecting budget is mainly devoted to Star Wars stuff, so I can only do a figure here and there).  How difficult do you think it will be to catch up on the regular characters (no variants, exclusives, etc.)?  What would be the cheapest route to take?  We are headed out shopping this weekend I think, so I might see what's available after I check out the SW section.  I am hoping to maybe find the original Battle Cat as well, but we will see.  And of course, I'd really like to find some of the newer waves (Buzz-Off, Man-E, Prince Adam, Whiplash, Sy-Klone, etc.), but it doesn't sound like they are showing up real regularly yet from what I have read?  Anyways, thanks for continuing to discuss the line...and hopefully this repaint mess, as well as the past case packing problems won't ruin it for everyone.

Yeah, when I first heard of the rereleases, I thought...this might be a great way for me to catch up since I'm getting into the line late....but these are terrible IMO.  Like Mikey D said, the Merman isn't that bad, but I'm not a fan of the other two.  Are they offering repaints of all the original figures now?

Other Collectibles / Garage Sale Finds
« on: July 24, 2003, 12:31 PM »
I just wanted to share a positive garage sale trip with my fellow forumites.  My wife and I went out to some garage sales this past weekend in our hometown (we were looking for furniture for an extra bedroom), and we happened to come across a sale that had a few Star Wars collectibles.  Although I'm sure they are not worth much, I didn't care, because I thought they were neat.  I picked up a Millenium Falcon plate from the Hamilton Plate Collection, as well as an Applause R2-D2 mug.  Both were in great shape, and I ended up paying $8 altogether.  Not exactly "super rare scores", but I was happy with them.  I just thought I would share.  Feel free to post any other finds, garage sale, flea market, etc. here if you want to!

I had to post here after seeing this wave at TRU this past weekend (2 Sidious, and 2 Lukes, no Obi-Wans).  When I first saw the pictures online, I wasn't to sure about the Luke, but after reading the review over at GH, as well as JangoFettish's comments, I decided to check it out.  I picked up the Luke, and I have to agree, it is amazing.  I didn't think I would like the green "swoosh", but when you have it opened and set up, it is really nice looking.  Its actually one of my favorite pieces, and I'm glad I picked it up.  Thanks for the positive reviews on it, it helped to sway me!  I can't decide whether or not I want the Sidious one or not.  I thought about starting an "Unleashed" thread in the Other Collectibles section to discuss these, but didn't know if this one might have covered it enough.  After picking up Luke, I really want to get more of this line.  For the most part, I think I'll just stick to the OT ones (although I got Jango as a gift, and have preordered Yoda, because well, its Yoda)...but I really hope this line continues.  It sounds like it is/has been doing pretty well?  I have Boba, Han, and Yoda preordered, and look forward to seeing more in the future.  Now, to see if I can pick up the Vader online or via ebay somewhere....:).

I like this idea as well, it would be great to see another Youngling set or two, and getting Jocasta Nu with one of them is a great idea.

Saga '02-'04 / Re: KB Tie Fighter is Shipping
« on: July 24, 2003, 09:20 AM »
I ordered this ship when it was available at KBToys.com on Tuesday.  Even though they didn't change the wing size, I have never had a regular Tie in my collection, and wanted one since it is one of the main ships from the OT.

Power of the Jedi / Re: Biker Scout - Clean Version
« on: July 24, 2003, 09:18 AM »
I always thought this figure was pretty nice as well, and do agree that it would be nice if it was re-released....or if they packed it 3 clean, 1 dirty in the troop builder pack, or even all 4 clean.  The only way they could maybe improve this figure is with some added articulation, but otherwise it isn't too bad IMO.  I saw the clean trooper on two occasions, right when this wave was released, at 2 different Wal-Marts.  I picked up one each time, and also an extra for a friend of mine.  So I have 2 clean and 2 dirty in my collection...I saw the dirty one on a few other occasions, but that clean one has to be one of the harder figures to come across from the modern line....judging from others' opinions/reports.

JD Sports Forum! / Re: NBA Off Season News

Agreed about the Kobe Bryant situation, a sad situation indeed.  I will be the first to admit that I haven't ever been the biggest Kobe Bryant fan, although I admit he is a tremendous player, and had begun to like him more and more this past season.  When I first heard about this news, I figured there was no chance that it was true. Even though he seems cocky on the court to me (what players don't though), I never though him capable of anything like this.  I started to wonder a little bit after he first said he did nothing, but then once charged, admitted to adultery. Most likely, he will end up getting off...and it is very possible that he is innocent anyways, we'll probably never know for sure...just like it was said before, it is "he said, she said".  The only thing I don't like about it, is that if he isn't convicted of assault, rape, or whatever they choose to call it, SOME people/commentators think "oh, this was just a girl trying to get rich, and Kobe was an innocent target".  Even if it was consentual, what he did (adultery) is still wrong.  I hope that people remember that.  It seems anymore that athletes/entertainers/celebrities get away with this...and it gets written off.  Bottom line is, adultery is still terrible, and something I think is one of the worst things a person could do.  Sometimes I think our entertainment world forgets that this is still wrong, regardless if it is consentual or not (especially for a married man).  Anyways, I hope that things work out and the real truth is found.  I am sure there will be doubters either way the ruling ends up going, but hopefully the parties involved can move past this eventually.  I am sure it will be a difficult trial, because it is really hard to tell who is telling the truth at this point.  God bless them all, and hopefully truth will be found.

The Bullpen / Marvel Legends X-Men Box Set
« on: July 21, 2003, 01:15 PM »
Some great pictures of Wave V this past weekend, can't wait to pick up Colossus.  X-Men Classics doesn't look too bad either, for some reason Cyclops' head looks a little big to me, but maybe that will be fixed.  Also, I see ADC has pics up today of the box set, looks good to me...except Rogue's one eye needs to be fixed, but I'm sure it will.  Check out the pics here:

Other Toy Lines / Re: Modern Masters of the Universe

Well, while out shopping this weekend I looked around for a regular He-Man and/or Skeletor to purchase to start off the collection (and see if I want to continue), but I wasn't able to find any.  I see that KBToys.com has the He-Man for sale, do you think that would be the best/cheapest route if I can't find one in stores anymore?  I really want to start collecting this line, but still not sure if I can afford it (and I know I don't have the space right now).  If I do, I would be like some of you...strictly ones from the old days.  I wouldn't be buying any variants, or any new characters, just the redos of the ones from when I was a kid.  I wanted to get He-Man first, and then take it from there.  I'm really looking forward to the Zodac figure (does anyone know when this is supposed to be released?), and I'm keeping my eyes peeled for any other figures around here.  So far, the only ones I've seen (since I've started looking that is), were Tri-Klops, Mekanek, Smash Blade He-Man, Spin Blade Skeletor, and an Orko.  I'll probably end up getting some of those eventually, but just wanted to have a figure, in-hand first to see if I like them enough.  Thanks for all the comments and/or pics any of you post...I appreciate the help in learning more about the line.
