Revenge of the Sith / Re: What figures are hard to find now?
« on: June 8, 2005, 03:54 PM »
This morning the two Targets I hit had obviously gotten a new mix of Collection 2 figures - there were PLENTY of Red Royal Guards and AT-TE Tank Gunners to be had at both stores. I would have to say it was the most of either figure (6+) that I had ever seen at one time.

Unfortunately no #45 - #47, the Wave 2 cups w/figures or Wave 3 Deluxe figures to be had...

To be honest, I can really see them shipping this set just like the EE SA Clone 4-pack.

Think about it - and those of you who work in Photoshop know how easy this would be since (a) you already have the box template and (b) you already have the outer white mailer box to protect the pretty window box.

All they'd have to do is change the graphics on the panels. If they can roughly justify the cost of around $24 for each four-pack, I don't see any reason why they couldn't just re-purpose that packaging and justify the $30 kit price tag.

I would have preferred the EE clones in white mailer boxes too - I didn't need these pretty window boxes for these sets. Especially since the art for all four variants is identical.

So - here's hoping that they do just end up being four baggied figures in a white mailer box.

BTW - great idea on slicing open the bottom of the EB kit outer plastic shell like that Matt - I hadn't thought of that, it could have saved me from buying that third one I got, 'cause I'm not really into the idea of collecting MIB Cardboard either.

Which Boba Fett is that? Is it Saga Pit of Carkoon?

Yeah - it looks to be the same Fett that was released both for the Saga and OTC lines. Not a bad sculpt, but the quick-draw action takes away from the figure (IMHO)

When you have a quality figure like the VOTC Fett laying around, getting another one of these is a tough pill to swallow - but I do want the Fett cup!

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Any ROTS figures you will pass on?

I'm not allowed to pass on any figures.  :-\

I'm not only the president of the Insane Lemming Completist Club, I'm also a member...  :-\

Technically Matt - you did pass on Attacktix - I have a bag full of some extras I'll be happy to send you to get started!  ;D

The ultimate completist horror:

1 x Sealed EB Kit
1 x Open EB Kit (complete)
1 x Mailed away EB Kit --> 1 x Sealed EB Figure Set
1 x Mailed away EB Kit --> 1 x Open EB Figure Set

Heh, heh.  Anyone buy 4 of these?   :o

Jesse - I bought three...

1 x Sealed EB Kit
2 x Open EB Kit complete except for the redemption cert
      --> 1 x Sealed EB Figure Set
      --> 1 x Open EB Figure Set

As far as I was concerned having two of the kits opened but without the redemption certificates and keeping one of them in pristine shape is enough - I really don't need a mint, non-filled-out redemption certificate.

You're right though - it is a horror. I would have rathered been able to walk into the store and buy two sets of these four figures for say $80 total and been done with it.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Target Figure with Cup Sets
« on: June 7, 2005, 09:47 PM »
While I agree that the packaging should become a unified style that encompasses all six movies, I think with these three cups Target sorta strong-armed Hasbro into putting them out with the rest of the ROTS style merchandise.

At this point, I care more about the entire Saga being equally represented in cups. I hope, although I know that it won't happen, that we get AT LEAST two more cups from TPM and AOTC and at least one more cup from the OT so we have three cups from each movie. Fully building out a set of 18 cups w/figures that I could display on a shelf in my collection would be great.

Granted it doesn't help matters that they release clunkers like this new wave - why couldn't the figures packed with the cups this time around have been the VOTC versions? They could, in the future, also turn around and give us a ROTJ Emperor Palpatine cup and an AOTC Count Dooku cup and include the figures from the Sith Evolutions Set. Afterall, they're charging $13 each instead of $10, why not give us re-releases of QUALITY figures instead?

Seriously though, I'm glad Pawlus confirmed what I said, I'd hate for you to have to take my word for it...  :P

If it makes you feel any better Jeff - I knew you were right. Those pre-orders never materialized so those two or three auctions of samples were it.

$84.37 for six more cups.  That's fun.  ::)

Yeah - tell me about. It's one of those times when I say to myself. "Thank god I collect two of everything like the lemming that I am!"

And I'm hitting three Targets each morning in anticipation of getting these things.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: RotS Plo Koon's Jedi Starfighter
« on: June 7, 2005, 06:59 PM »
That's kinda weird - perhaps they either

(a) thought it was in bad taste since the only time it shows up in the movie is to get blown to pieces so they cancelled it

(b) store toy buyers were like "No way" since it is just a repaint of the AOTC Jedi Starfighter toy.

OR (and this one is definitely iffy)

(c) one or perhaps two of the brick and mortar stores bought out the entire production of these and e-tailers like EE are left out in the cold.

I could see TRU grabbing this item as an exclusive 'cause they love to sit on stacks and stacks of vehicles in their stores. The retailer with the most stacks wins!  ::)

Seriously though, with display space shrinking and the only thing that really moves with any velocity are: individually carded figures, electronic lightsabers, Darth Vader Voice Changers and Deluxe Figures, I think the retailers may have passed on it 'cause they are phasing out vehicles in their SW displays.

Hey Hasbro! / Re: do not need more REHASHES!
« on: June 5, 2005, 08:17 PM »
I am so glad there is a thread for this!  Has anyone seen the R2 on Mustafar?  It is the exact same figure, except this one makes noises.  Big deal!  Hasbro has been doing this for years.  Don't get me wrong, i like them, but sometimes they are kind of silly.  For instance, what was really the diffrence with the 2 Yodas from ROTS?  A firing cannon?!  That wasn't even in the movie.

Personally, I'm okay with multiple main characters with different action features and slightly different sculpts. That's just the way the modern line is. Let's face it, the days of there only being ONE Darth Vader, ONE Tatooine Luke, etc... like with the vintage line are LONG GONE. If the figure is different from any previous release then I do not consider it a rehash - it is a re-interpretation of the character in plastic.

I think the R2-D2 on Mustafar is a REHASH of the AOTC Saga Version, but I haven't really been able to compare the two figures to be 100% sure.

I think that in order to survive, the line will need rehashes to keep people who might be new to collecting Star Wars coming to the line. If you think back to the vintage line, while the vintage line didn't have multiple versions of say Tatooine Luke or Darth Vader, both characters were shipped on the cardbacks for all three movies. Being a kid at the time, I really only needed to buy a character again if I had broken one during play, otherwise, the first one I got was the only one.

Now that I'm an adult and I want a complete MOC collection, I think differently than when I was a kid and I turn around and buy the OTC release of the Endor Generals even though less than six months earlier I had just gotten them on Saga cards. It's all a matter of how you view collecting and what's important to your collection.

Sure, now, I view the multiple releases as pain to the wallet, but I could also stop at any time, no one forces me to collect SW toys.

I do like Valin's idea that the 2006/2007 lines should be sprinkled with re-releases of hard-to-find items - I definitely think that a Qui-Gon w/Eopie would be a welcome re-release. So would many of the other items on his list. I think if they return to the black card style then re-hashing figures with a few new or slightly altered figures thrown in every other wave will help keep the line going and encourage new people who were drawn to Star Wars by ROTS to continue collecting once the line turns its focus to the entire saga.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: The Mustafar Playset...
« on: June 5, 2005, 07:48 PM »
These two figures aren't even of the same quality of the Battle Arena figures - the shoulders aren't even ball-jointed as to allow for greater poseability in the figure.

The head sculpt of the Obi-Wan isn't bad - he looks tired, worn-down. The Anakin head sculpt on the other hand is straight out of the POTF/EP1 era complete with ridiculous facial expression.

Hasbro just continues to seem to have problems sculpting accurate representations of the Skywalker boys (Anakin AND Luke) IMHO.

I generally like the playset, there could have been more to it. Hasbro could easily ADD to it which is nice, here's hoping they do in the form of the ROTS equivalent of the AOTC Separatist Leader three-packs - having a "strategy room" with control panels and central console would be a nice addition to this playset. I would definitely be willing to pay $30 each to get three figures and a nice playset segment - as long as the figures are nicely done.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: RotS - Deluxe Figures
« on: June 5, 2005, 06:33 PM »
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.  :(

Nothing to be sorry about - now I understand when I found the remnants of around 10 cases of Wave 3 Deluxe figures at one of my local Target stores the other day ALL 9 or 10 Clonetrooper 3-packs were gone - if the four variants are packaged randomly, the person who found them was bound to need AT LEAST four, if not doubles or more if they are an army builder.

It's when Hasbro does something like this that just makes me sit back and wonder WTF? If they were going to make it that you needed to get four different three packs to have a complete set then they should have shipped cases of NOTHING BUT the Clonetroopers - two of each variety in a case that fit eight packs.

Then at least stores like EE or even could offer the case to the collectors so they could be done with a single purchase.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: The Mustafar Playset...
« on: June 5, 2005, 10:53 AM »
I don't think it's the best playset but for $30 including 2 halfway decent figures I'll take it.  I like the fact that Vader's limbs detach.

Uh - your Vader/Anakin figure that came with the Mustafar playset has limbs that detach?

I went back and checked my Anakin figure from the playset and he doesn't have any removeable parts at all.

So this must mean there are a total of FOUR different packaging variations for these deluxe clones?!?!?!

And Hasbro goes and packs them 1 per case.

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Star Tours thread... Wave 4 coming soon?
« on: June 4, 2005, 11:03 PM »
Agreed - Wave 4 was the weakest set to date (Wave 3 wasn't much better considering that the Heli-bird thing was lame and the G2-9T was a minimal variant on G2-4T)

They really should have stopped after Wave 2.

Do things sell at the Star Tours shops and Once Upon a Toy? I thought they did well - I mean if you go back in this thread to January, the only Star Tours figures left were Wave 3 and Captain Rex - personally keeping Captain Rex IN STOCK is a smart move simply because he's the most noticeable droid of all.

Are these shops selling the ROTS figures now? Perhaps they're waiting for that to die-down abit. Perhaps they're waiting for Hasbro to package them on ROTS style cards or perhaps they are on hold pending the supposed updating that GL wants to do to Star Tours to incorporate the locals seen in the PT as well as the OT.

I agree with what Matt said all the way back in November - if they are indeed cancelled for good never to be available for purchase that will make me feel like there is a small (albeit midly insignificant) piece of my collection that is incomplete. This feeling is even further enhanced by the fact that someone out there got them on eBay for what would seem to be (in hindsight) a steal.

And some of us are so mentally off-kilter (pointing at myself) that they sent away for two ANYWAY 'cause even if they come in a white mailer box, there is a need to have a set of them MIB even if it's a bland/blank white mailer box you can't see the product inside.

I have an unopened white mailer box for every mail-away figure of the modern era (and some of the vintage era) that ever came in that format.
