Nah, not really.

While I appreciate your perspective given your situation, only having one side able to honestly comment on the situation is hardly the best.  I've dealt with dickish buyers enough that I'd love to neg them and they would have deserved it.  But there's no option for an irresponsible buyer.  Three weeks to pay then leave comments to the extent that shipping was slow?  Seriously?

I 100% agree with you - I am a firm believer in if you win an auction, you pay immediately - I always do. I bid and paid on this item in question within minutes - normally for me I take advantage of Buy-it-Now and do it at the same time. In this case, I had to wait for the auction to end since there was no BiN.

Also as a buyer - I rarely care about shipping speed - if I get a tracking number and can watch it's progress - that's good enough for me - if it still hasn't been shipped 2-3 weeks after I've paid - that's when I get concerned and probably from that seller's perspective - a bit dickish.

The guy I was dealing with sent me an item that was opened and resealed, and was listed as unopened.  I contacted him when I opened the claim, which gave me the option to ask that I keep the item but ask for a partial refund.  That's what I did, and he was more than happy to kick back my shipping.  I think he'd have asked for more, but the shipping satisfied me.

In your case it sounds even a little more shady than mine (I think my guy it was an honest mistake), and you deserve some money back, especially since yours was opened AND is missing a part.  Mine was complete, and I was going to open it anyway, so I didn't want to be a jag about it was all.  I wanted something off though because we'd been in a Best Offer negotiation over it and my first offer was declined...  Knowing what I know now, I would've wanted it for the lower price though.

He may not like it, or even respond to you, but either way Ebay's probably going to side with you on it.  Take some pics of it for evidence.

eBay did side with me - sorry if my post wasn't clear on that point - the only problem was that all they were willing to do was send me a shipping label to send it back to the seller for a full refund.

I even selected the option to chose to keep item/partial refund but they (eBay) ignored it.

If the seller coped to the fact that it was already opened and built and all they did was disassemble it and sell it and were willing to kick back some $$$ - like 25% off or something, I would have been happy with that AND given the seller good feedback.

I did get a eBay customer support survey to fill out - not that I think it will help much - but I plan on giving eBay a less than favorable response on that this weekend.

Sellers can't leave negative or neutral feedbacks anymore, so no need to worry about retaliation. The worst the seller could do is leave a positive feedback with a negative written comment, but that is something eBay will remove.

Wow - they can't? Nice!

So just to update on my Jek-14 Mini Starfighter issue.

Never got a response back from the seller. The one piece that was missing was identical to the Jek figure hair-piece that came with the mass retail bigger Jek-14 Fighter - so I went to Lego's customer service site and asked for one - and I was sent it.

So now that set is "complete" - I have not been able to confirm whether or not there were any "spare" parts - there probably were but I can't seem to find on any of the Lego collector sites what they were exactly - but at least I now have all the parts the instruction book indicates should be there.

So after waiting the period of time that eBay asked me to wait, I let them know that I hadn't heard back from the seller - so without reading my comments they e-mailed me a shipping return label and said I'll get a full refund when they are alerted, via shipping tracking, that the item was returned to the seller.

That wasn't the outcome I wanted - and no matter how many times I explained that to the eBay customer support e-mail address, they just didn't seem to get it.

So I looked at the current going rate for the set and it's $109+

I got it for $79.99 + $5 shipping

If I send it back - this horrible seller was just going re-list it as "new" and "unopened" and in order for me to get the set, I would have to pay even more money.

So in the end, I just kept it - I was going to open it and build it anyway.

The lousy part is that I want to leave negative feedback for the seller, but I'm worried that the seller is just gonna leave a negative feedback on me in retaliation.

UGH - so I picked up the Jek-14 Mini Stealth Starfighter on an eBay auction that claimed the set was New/Unused/Unopened.

Well - it arrived today and imagine my shock to find the two clear tape circular seals that hold the top of the box onto the bottom were both cut.

Opened up the box to find the mini-figure fully assembled INSIDE the bag and then found that the bag was one of those resealable type bags.

Does anyone else have this set? Is that how the bag was? Did the mini-figure come pre-assembled - most Lego sets have the head, torso, legs, hair/helmet all as separate pieces.

Not to mention the fact that Jek-14's hair-piece is missing. I'm not OVERLY concerned about that since I can always request another one from Lego Customer Service to replace it.

My complaint is that it truly wasn't a new/unopened set with those tape seals cut.

Am I being unreasonable?

This week's acquisitions:

2013 SDCC Jek-14 Microfighter
TC-4 Minifigure Polybag
Home One Mon Calamari Star Cruiser
2014 Imperial Shuttle Polybag

For the Home One set, I really wasn't setting out to pick that one up off eBay, but I found a seller with multiple of the set for sale, selling it for $20 less than the MSRP - which in the Lego world is a rarity - most times things go up in cost, not down.

Yeah - the figure line for X-Men Origins: Wolverine at least had a couple of figures (Logan, Sabertooth & Deadpool) that were based on the movie - but a lot of that line was comics-based. I also believe that was Hasbro's inaugural 3.75" Marvel line.

For The Wolverine - they had that pitiful line that were 100% comics based - none of them had any basis on the movie itself, it seemed like that line just tried to capitalize on the movie being in theaters.

I find it very odd that Thor: The Dark World can have a bigger toy line than ANY X-Men movie - maybe it's a "sign of the times" kind of thing or maybe it has something to do with licensing contracts and film rights and whatnot. Maybe Hasbro has the license to make figures from Disney/Marvel and Sony produced Marvel movies but not 20th Century Fox ones...

This post actually made me realize that there's no figure line based on the upcoming X-Men movie.  That's actually something of a big deal.

Was there one for X-Men: First Class either? I know there were X-Men: First Class/Wolverine: First Class Comic 2-packs released by Hasbro but they had nothing to do with the movie.

Maybe Hasbro doesn't view the X-Men movies as kid-friendly as the other Marvel stuff...

Yeah, people have been snagging the SSD everywhere it's sold. It's always been that way with LEGO though. Anytime there are rumors of a set's retirement, people go crazy (see the Jabba's Palace thing last year when stores sold out of the set because of the mosque controversy). Some people have been saving up for the SSD since it came out, and want one before it's gone, while scalpers see the dollar signs.

Yeah - I just called the local Lego store and it turns out they are out of them now as well - I guess folks have been going around snatching them up... Oh well, if I never get that set, I won't be heartbroken... Maybe I'll keep an eye on it on Amazon...

As far as Obi-Wan, I think there's a couple angles. One is ageing Ewan McGregor via make up or CGI. A combo of the two would probably get close to Alec Guinness. I like the holocron idea, but another option would be just having him 'de-age.' Lucas opened the door on this by having Hayden Christensen appear in ROTJ. The only explanation for this is the Jedi somehow have the power to 'regress' in the Force, or appear as they want to. This would be ok with me.

Wasn't the explanation given that it reflected the Jedi from when they "died" - in the case of Anakin, he actually "died" the moment he turned to the dark side and was defeated by Obi-Wan on Mustafar.

I always thought that explanation was garbage and I think your rationale works much much better. In fact they made fun of this in the "How it Should Have Ended" cartoon for Return of the Jedi - Anakin bounces around appearing even as young as he did in EP1 and the Yoda & Obi-Wan ghosts are like "oh god, please turn back".

So the net-net is that I think if Kasdan and Abrams have a good justification for Obi-Wan speaking with Luke then they will make it work and what better way to make a connection to the PT in addition to already having the obvious OT connections than to have an actor from the PT show up in a cameo.

Word is that the SSD was quietly retired, so whatever is left out there is it.

UGH - great - now I want that one more - although I think the spot in the store where they used to have them was taken up by the Sandcrawler, so I don't know if they moved them into the back or actually sold through them. I'd find it hard to believe that they sold through them, but stranger things have happened I guess...

How did you get the TRU set? I thought that was just for kids?

I walked in, asked if I could build two of each ship - the table was completely void of kids and the girls working the table were sorting the parts into bags so that anyone who walked up could just be handed a bag of parts - they gave me two bags, I made sure no parts were missing and built the two X-Wings and the two TIEs - grabbed a spare set of instructions and walked out.  ;D

At lunch time today I went to the TRU near my work and picked up the Polybag set of Anakin's Green Jedi Starfighter from ROTS - it was the last one they had on the pegs. Built it while I was eating my lunch - great little mini set. Would have made for a nice Galaxy set with "Sith" Anakin and a Mustafar globe....  :-\

I think my next acquisition will be to try to get the Jek Microfighter from last year's SDCC.

Nice haul there Pete   8)

Thanks!

I am a huge KOTOR fan and I really wanted to pick up an extra of the Darth Revan mini-figure - unfortunately, I am also incredibly impatient - so I already have all of the smaller sets - so my options were limited to the Death Star, Sandcrawler and the Super Star Destroyer. I have been saving up to make the purchases but all I was able to save up was enough for the Sandcrawler and one of the other two - so I went with the Death Star. While I do want to eventually get the Super Star Destroyer - I won't be heartbroken if I never get it.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: The Spider-Man Movie Series

I thought it was pretty good. Definitely a good set-up movie to the ASM3 and beyond.

I would much rather see Sony trying to "work things out" with Disney/Marvel so that Spidey/Peter could appear in Avengers movies and maybe conversely characters like Hulk/Thor/Iron Man/etc... could show up as cameos in Spider-man movies.

While I tend to enjoy the X-Men movies from 20th Century Fox - they have started to get to the point where their own movies contradict each other SO BADLY it's actually starting to get embarrassing - so I would actually prefer for Sony to distance themselves from the X-Men franchise.

On Saturday, I drove to my nearest Lego Store in the mall and picked up both the Death Star and the Sandcrawler. Snagged two Revan mini-figs thanks to those purchases.

I also hit up the Toys R Us and was able to score the Free Build X-Wing and TIE Fighter mini-ships.

Started putting the Death Star together on Sunday - that has been fun build so far - probably will finish it up during the week and then start on the Sandcrawler over next weekend.

In addition to Frank Oz and Ian McDiarmid - I'm also hoping for Ewan McGregor to be announced at some point as well. Like Darby, I feel that one of the best things to come out of the PT was McGregor's portrayal of a young Obi-Wan Kenobi. I would have ZERO problem with him made up to look like "old" Obi-Wan and stepping in to portray the force ghost version of Luke's former mentor.

Doing so would be a great way to tie in all six movies.

I shudder at the possibility of Hayden Christensen showing up though - might as well have a cardboard cut out of him and then have Matt Lanter read the lines - the result would be a million times better.
