The Wookiee Arcade / Re: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II !
« on: February 19, 2010, 06:12 AM »
While I will gladly buy this game since I loved the first one.

I have to wonder if a sequel in some way cheapens the "light side" ending of the first game. The whole point was that Starkiller sacrificed himself so that the Rebellion could be born.

I almost wish they had made the sequel about Maris Brood and Rahm Kota instead - both of them are alive at the end of TFU and nowhere to be found in the OT.

I agree that the way that the first game ended really suggests they should move on with another character. I think that the next game should be Force Unleashed: Dark Empire. It could be an expansion of the DE series and you could be Dark Luke.

I actually agree with alot of what you said. The only thing I find really strange is this weird bias you have against alien races. If they weren't fictional I'd think you were prejudiced :)

I believe it is a TAC death star trooper body and the cape and skirt appear to be from a VOTC vader.

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: TAC Jedi Luke mods [1]
« on: September 11, 2007, 05:16 PM »
Here are some mods to the TAC Jedi Luke. I tried to combine the best of the Saga Luke and the TAC luke. I realized after I posted the original pics that his arms sat way too far out from his body. Fortunately I happen to be crazy and have two of both of the figures I used so I made another. He  has some greenstuff on his sleeve in the WIP picture because I got a little dremel crazy. I'll probably either sell the first one or just slap the endor poncho on him and call it a day. I tried to combine the best of both figures:

I basically used the torso and legs from the Saga Jedi luke and the head and arms from the 30th Ann. Luke. I only lost articulation at the ankles. Otherwise he retains all of POA of the original. Here is a pic of the V.2 WIP next to the "prototype". (My V.1  is wearing the "endor dunce cap")

Attaching the arms wasn't easy. It's kind of hard to explain but I basically dremelled around the peg where the arm attaches so that there was a donut of plastic still surrounding the peg. Then I hollowed out the arm holes of Saga Luke, inserted the arm pieces and filled in any gaps w/ kneadatite. For the head I just chopped it off of 30th Ann Luke where the neck meets the torso and glued it onto Saga Luke's body.
Here he is all finished:

I tried to touch up his blaster damaged hand with mediocre results...

Here are some mods I did to my Luke.  I tried to combine the best features from the TAC Luke and the Saga Luke. He retains all the articulation of the TAC Luke except the ankles.

30th Anniversary Collection / Re: 30AC Star Wars Comic Packs
« on: August 2, 2007, 10:03 PM »
I just picked up two of the new 3-packs. I got the Leia/vader on and the Luke Mara one. I was very happy with Mara but Luke's body quite frankly sucks. The headsculpt is awesome though and so is his Xwing helmet so I did this:

I put his head on the VOTC X-wing Luke body.
I think this figure is just too cool now. It was a straight head swap BTW. No Modding required. Here are some pics of Mara for those of you who are interested:
She has cut joint arms and ball jointed knees.

I have to say I'm really happy w/ both of these figures.

Darth and Leia are pretty cool too (Especially Leia). I can take pics if anyone is interested.

Here is my Supreme Commander Skywalker/ Jedi Master Skywalker from Dark Empire:

The body is just the death star trooper with the cloak from the old Dark Empire Luke.
The head is from the DS2 Luke I made last year. It was made by cutting off the face from the OTC Jedi Luke and attaching it to a shaved down Evolutions Anakin. Then I resculpted the hair. The inspiration for this custom came from an offhand comment LordCable made about the original that his hair looked like EU Luke.

Like father like son...

Chewie- I thought about swapping out the hands but I just need to find some that match the skin tone. right now though I'm satisfied because he has so little skin exposed.

Jesse James- That is an idea I was rolling around in my head as well. I just need  to find another Bespin luke on sale.

Jocasta's Reading Room / Re: Legacy Novels
« on: July 10, 2007, 04:45 PM »
I read Sacrifice today and it was a really good read. The death in the book was really well handled and sad. It was also nice to see Ben becoming more of a man and less of a whiny little kid ( it's reminiscent of Luke's Journey throughout the OT). My only crticism of the books as a series is tha there is almost too much going on. I feel like all that stuff about Fett could be it's own separate book. In the future it would be nice to see the focus be on maybe 4-5 characters as opposed to what feels like 7-12 (Like Tatooine Ghost which just focused on Han and Leia.)

Star Wars Action Figures / TAC Jedi Luke mods [1]
« on: July 1, 2007, 02:53 PM »
Mods to the new Vintage bespin Luke

I added the head from the OTC Dagobah Luke. I added a little Kneadatite to the ball joint so the head wouldn't be loose. This is my favorite Luke in this scale now.

I just finished reading the newest Star wars offering from acclaimed author Timothy Zahn. For those of you who haven't heard of/ read the book here is a brief synopsis from Starwars.com:

"In Star Wars: Allegiance, which takes place during the time between Episodes IV and V, Luke Skywalker is still new to all this Jedi business. Han Solo isn't sure how much he's willing to commit to the Rebel Alliance. Princess Leia is trying to help run the Rebellion and wondering why Han is so infuriating. The young Mara Jade is one of the most valued agents of the evil Emperor. And a team of stormtroopers goes rogue, deciding to mete out justice their own way"

It sounds good doesn't it? In fact it sounds like the second coming of Shadows of the Empire (which was a fantastic book). Unfortunately, in my opinion the book is neither.

I will preface this review with this; If you want to read a story that 1) Fleshes out important events between ANH and ESB and 2) tells a great story starring the heroes of the rebellion, then this is NOT the book for you. In fact you will be, as I was, quite dissapointed. If you want to read an in depth tale of Mara Jade and some rogue Stormtroopers you will probably really enjoy this book.

The problem with this book is not Zahn's handling of the "main" (and I use the term loosely) characters Han, Luke, and Leia. In fact he writes the characters so brilliantly that it makes it even more frustrating that they only appear for about 20% of the book. It felt as though the characters that should have been the focus of the book were relegated to supporting roles. Even more frustrating is how Zahn touches on extremely interesting ideas/relationships and doesn't go anywhere with them, such as the fact that Obi-wan is still training Luke from beyond, and Han and Leia's budding relationship.

The feeling I got after reading this book is the same feeling I got after reading Outbound Flight, Timothy Zahn wants to write a book about Mara Jade leading a group of Stormtroopers. In fact Allegiance sets the stage for him to write that very book. However, based on Alleigance Zahn is too in love with his romantacized conceptions of these characters to write a plausable tale. Throughout the book Zahn spends too much time trying to make Mara Jade a "good person who got caught up in the big bad empire while trying to do the right thing" . Quite frankly this is a hard pill to swallow for several reasons. 1) The fact that Mara could be as close to the emperor as she was and think that he was"a good man" is just ridiculous especially since we have been led to believe that she makes a career of killing his rivals. (unlike Anakin in ROTS)  2) the borderline idealistic individual we meet in allegiance doesn't match up to the cold blooded killer in Heir to the Empire. 3) the fact that someone who was trained in the darkside and practically raised by the emperor (for the purpose of being used as a weapon)would be anything less than a cold blooded killer is difficult to accept.Especially given what we saw of Darth Maul's personality (this is also unlike Anakin who was mainly trained by Obi-wan and Palpatine had to seduce to the dark side. Jade had been trained by Palaptine exclusively and during a period where Palpatine had no need to pretend to be a " good person")

The whole bit with the renegade stormtroopers is well written, if overdone. Zahn protrays the political fallout of Alderaan in a way that is both relevant and interesting at first. However, this isn't supposed to be a book solely about stormtroopers so the amount of time he allots to this plot thread is excessive to the point where you get 15 pages about these troopers Zahn made up and a page and a half about what's going on with the Rebellion. Frankly, the whole stormtropper thread got boring halfway through. Even worse, somehow Zahn manages in unbelievable fashion to have these traitors end up serving the Empire again under Mara Jade. Surprise. Surprise.

As I said earlier, Alleigance is no Shadows of the Empire.  In fact this seems like it would be more in line with the Republic Commando books. Star Wars Military buffs and Mara Jade fans will probably enjoy this book, beyond that I would recommend you pass on this one.

Star Wars Universe / Re: luke skywalkers death?
« on: February 1, 2007, 02:34 PM »
i personally can see the general divide amongst the older Fans and younger fans with Njo and beyond. the older fans don't want starwars to grow up or change. while the younger fans much like myself grew up with SW going through constant change and rebirth. and quite frankly i for one enjoy the restoration of Lucas's works and can't wait for the next EU stories.

Where are you getting this distinction between "older" v. "younger" fans? First off, there are plenty of older fans that are enthusiastic about the SW universe expanding and changing. I think the only real distinction is fans who only accept the "Canon" SW and those who consider all of the books and movies as part of a larger tapestry. Neither of these groups is restricted to one age range or another.

In Order of Preference:

2. Boba Fett
3. Chewbacca (ESB w/ damaged Threepio)

6. R2-D2 and Threepio
