The Wookiee Arcade / Re: Wow, NEW Star Wars FPS: Republic Commando

Need an upgrade before I'm gonna be playing this, unfortunately.  :-\

I was thinking the same thing about the last dude.  I see a lot of corpse parts there from an AOD figure (I've yet to get any though...  I never get to a mall to look  ::) ).

The robes on the corpse looking dude are familiar...  The familiarity makes me think maybe switching up the paintjob on it is a good idea.  What's the character to be exactly though, a Senator type guy (just some random, unattractive species) or a Sith like Dime's mentioned?  He looks eviil for sure, but so do many species it seems.

On the Wookie, you did a great paintjob CHEWIE, and he's very different to the Wookie Warrior basic figure...  I dig that.  Not wild about a crude axe as his weapon but that's just my view of Wookies as "something more" than other species.  I could see a more high-tech axe or something though...  Or, a warhammer.  Warhammer's sheer brutality would be a neat weapon that I'd dig seeing in a Wookie's hands.  Something that their physical strength would "back up"...  Vague idea of a reaplacement, I know.

I'd outfit him with an extra bowcaster too though...  Sucks going into a gunfight with a "knife" so-to-speak so I'd give him even a POTF2 Chewie's bowcaster iwth a sling over his back or some such.  Just that extra umph for ranged battle.

You definitely painted him up much nicer than Hasbro's.  Even the armor looks like you did a bit of work there too.

On Jar Jar, I think it's a shame we have yet to get a GOOD Senator Jar Jar from E2 actually.  While not a pivotal character exactly, he's also not the bumbling idiot he was in E1 and was tolerable.  He'd be cool as a neutral Senator figure some day, and the same can be said for your version...  I'mc urious though if he's based on an E3 costume you've seen or just your own design of what he may look like in E3?  I recognize at least the cloak, and I think it looks great...  I like seeing his ears "back" and sort of out of the way...  More dignified for some odd reason.

My favorite figure then is easily the Max Rebo guy...  Nice use of parts, and it's neat seeing a species we've really only seen once actually out and about as a different character...  That they're not relegated to sitting behind a piano!

The parts work well too, pulling off the squat, bulky body while covering him up quite well with clothes.  That looks really cool, and I'd dig seeing more figures like that out of people.  This is one of the neater customs in a while I think.  Again on the colors though, I think I'd have gone with something different as that looks very close to the base colors...  Kind of muted shirt with a bright tunic.

The only other thing, and I just notice it looking at him more...  The arms seem "long".  I'd shorten them somewhat, as I believe the species' arms are not that long whereas Pote's got arm length like a human does.  Minor, but it caught my eye sort of.  I could be wrong too though, as I don't have the Max figure to look at or a picture of him in the film...  He seems squatter in the arms and body though to me.

All in all, great round-up of figures CHEWIE, nice work.  You should take them over to FFURG to get some input I think...  Lots of voices to add to it there and I'll re-add mine as well of course.

Star Wars Dioramas and Displays / Re: Modular Cloud City
« on: February 6, 2005, 02:31 AM »
I've, at times of my customizing career when I'm at 0 activity with anything, I will break apart a droid and add this or that for a "junk" piece to act as set dressing in a diorama.

May I suggest finding the most broke-ass looking 3PO or DSD from the vintage line, and working from there Muftak.  I like drilling a hole at the socket and using some Devcon Plastic Welder to glue REAL wiring into limbs, torsos, or heads.  Paint them up...  Even can retain the cool "metallic paintjob" if you take translucent paint and so long as you clean the figure's "plating" off down to the chrome base...  Paint it and you have a variety of colors for droids in the shiney paint schemes rather than gold, or silver...  Not that there aren't any flat colored protocol droids and things either of course.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Think we'll see the Lars family?
« on: February 6, 2005, 02:27 AM »
I think it's likely too if the line rolls along...  The thing is, the prequals have plenty of background fodder yet to be touched while the classics have steadily been chipped away at for 10 years now.

The line lasts, we could see plenty of figures...  Then again, the line's life is in question after E3 as I see it.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Basic Figure Leak: Already?
« on: February 6, 2005, 02:26 AM »
For some reason I remember E1 more clearly than E2.  E1 I know stuff was out super early but in limited #'s...  It started to dribble out then I'd say March of that year or so to the point LOTS of people had scored an E1 item beyond the STAP. :)

E2...  I don't really recall much other than leak upon leak, but I think I just didn't care since we all knew E2 had the same likely patterns of E1...  I didn't see any E2 product early myself though, but wasn't looking real hard either.  I was disenchanted with 99% of the E2 line-up as it was.  It was a collecting break to me.

Matt explained himself well over yonder...  Nobody got it.

Jeff I think made an even more clear/simplified explanation, and again nobody got it...  Then GNT locked 'er down when his life started shift started.  It got really outrageous toward the end, but let's face it, that thread needed the humor in it.

Especially considering what Matt poked fun at the most was the pink pillow analogy that I'd say 99% of the people there understood except for 2 or 3 perhaps who (because it was about pink pillows) decided to make it sound like Matt was talking gibberish.

That was amusing, but it truly was you slamming your head off a brick wall Matt.  :)  You got nowhere with any of them because I don't think they wanted your point to be heard...  It is what it is.

Like I said, when Scum or GH.com would come out and say, "such and such is coming out next year our sources say!", I don't stick my head in the sand and pretend it ain't happening...  I realize they're people I know from years in this racket, and people I can trust.  GH and Scum both said as much about us, and it shows that the people in this the longest are the people who actually know what they're talking about...  what they're doing.

You ran into the new regulars there who really just don't have a clue.  And then you repeatedly ran into them again, and again, and again...  :P

Revenge of the Sith / Re: AT-RT - the walker army-builder
« on: February 4, 2005, 11:36 PM »
I dig the AT-RT for the most part...  It's cool, and a bit of a throwback to an AT-PT as far as walkers go.  Personal, kind of an anti-infantry weapon or a heavy fire support weapon that walks itself around (An E-Web with legs, if you will).

I like how this same discussion "elsewhere" is fixated on this being a precursor of sorts to another design...  The same thing was said of the AT-TE when it was unveiled.  It's like one can't just be independant of the other...  Designed for a completely different purpose.  Rather it HAS to be the evolutionary step towards something else...  it has to be connected to walkers from the classic trilogy in some way, as if this technology just SUDDENLY existed when the Republic got Clones. :)

AT-RT doesn't even imply the same job that AT-ST does, so I'm not even thinking of these as being remotely the same or related...  They have 2 legs, that's their ONLY similarity to me.  The AT-TE and AT-AT didn't even have that, haha.  People still drew an analogy to those two though which I simply don't see at all.  Different vehicles for different purposes as I see it, and may both be in use by the time of ESB.

If this thing reminded me of anything it's the AT-PT which looks like an evolved version of this because it encases the driver in armor on the AT-PT and adds a different gun (duel cannon) to the nose..  More squat (stable) too.  If one looks like it lead to another, I'd say that's the more likely.  The AT-ST's a much larger, much heavier design...  Comparing the RT to the ST is like saying the jeep lead to the Abrahams rather than the jeep helped loosely lead to the Humvee I think...  for a military analogy.

Anyway...

As far as a toy goes, completely doable in a to-scale version.  Hasbro's got no excuse not to.  It's a personal walker that I dig...  needs made, and no reason a simple one (IE: No action features) can't be done for a $15 on the low end or $20 on the high end.  The pilot doesn't appear to have the same body as any other Clone...  Armor looks different, so I'm guessing a reused figure isn't cool to me, but I woudl dig it either way.

What other companies can deliver for $15 - $20 is pretty impressive so this should be no different given how relatively tiny it actually is.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Terminator Toy Line... 4" Scale.
« on: February 4, 2005, 11:14 PM »
I hope that's the case MisterPL...  Even if no Arnold comes through, I'd take whatever they threw at us if it's from "the future" era of the Terminator films.  To me that's the era with the most toy potential...  The films themselves really only offer you a few main characters and that's it.

A couple terminators, or variants of the same terminators, and the Sara Connor, Jon Connor...  Whoever the hell the dude was that banged Sara in the first film (I totally forget his name now).

If it's resistance guys, I'm in for maybe even multiples.  All I know is an Endoskeleton is almost a given and that'll be great SW custom fodder for a Phase 1 Darktrooper base.  Add a cleaver/shield and maybe a repeater, and you're set practically.  Tons of other figure potential too with resistance dudes.

Haven't seen pics of those Terminator figures by chance, have ya? :)  Toy Fair's got more this year than ever that piques my interest...  beyond Star Wars of course.

Sideshow's one of the only companies to rival Dragon in overall accuracy...  Those are incredible.

I wonder if they'll do immortals and such from the films and TV show or just keep it to mains?  I want the retarded immortal that put his head on the railroad tracks in the TV episodes.  That was one of the best TV Shows in its hay-day.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Bachelor Parties
« on: February 3, 2005, 08:36 PM »
Hmmm, it's been a while...  I was supposed to go to one this year (near fall) but just in
the last couple weeks my buddy known as "Shemp" broke up with his woman
who had a gambling addiction (seriously) to Bingo.  I **** you not on this.

He's better off I say.

Anyway, that one was gonna be good because his best man already had a whole strip club in the city
reserved for us, and that woulda been nice.  Oh well.

The last one I was at then was a couple years ago for my buddy Matt.

In general we have a pattern for parties and they're pretty well simplified.  We go to a
bar/restaurant or restaurant to eat, most often Hooters.  Then we go to a bar to drink unless
where we were at is a bar as well and we wanna hang there.  If it's Hooters, we go to a bar then
afterward so we can do shots and stuff.  Get all liquored up.  Then we usually go to a strip club unless
that's a faux pau as far as the bride-to-be is concerned (not my choice I suppose, otherwise I'd force
the bachelor to go).

Club Erotica in Pittsburgh's our usual stop there, and we spend the rest of the evening there...  One time
till it closed around 4 a.m. which was a blast.

Now, I've been to other set-ups...  That's just my small group's "template" bachelor party we've used for friends
over the years...  Some of our friends have no guts though and "weren't allowed" to go to a strip club so we
instead went out to bars/clubs in the city, and eventually get someone at one of those places to take a shirt off
or something.  Gotta have boobie somewhere.

But at another party I was at for someone I sorta knew through my friend, they had rented the top of a club
in the city, and they'd gotten a private show with two girls.  Best bachelor party ever, and what all went on
goes beyond what I can say here even with our more mellow rules. :)  It was a fun show though.

After one Bachelor Party I woke up in my tub with the shower running, and I was short my shirt from the night
before but I had a nice fleece blanket from somewhere.  That was a fun night.

I didn't care for this show myself...  That's just me though.  I was more PO'd that Spike took TNG and DS9 (right when they got rights to DS9) and put them on at like 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., when I can't watch them.

The evening timeslots rocked...   >:(

Have you seen Dragon figures?  Well, outside of being used as hostages anyway...

They're incredible.  ;D

I think the best part was the guy from DML USA saying it was a compliment to him that so many people thought it was real.  It was on the Daily Show last night and got a pretty good laugh from Stewart...

He then went onto say, "No!  You removed it from the box and now it has no value!!!"  :)  Classic.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Would you have changed the Preview Wave?
« on: February 3, 2005, 08:11 PM »
In my neck, the R3 actually sold better than Jango or Zam, and I'd say it was on-par with the Clone...  Ironically those figures shipped again to TRU not TOO long ago (I think most areas were seeing that), and I actually couldn't get another R3 (was hoping to find one or two to repaint), whereas I saw all the other 3...

Still see almost all the other 3 though the Clone is drying up now as well.  R3's long gone again though out here.
