Mine is set to arrive on Tuesday. I'm hoping the odds of having four in the box will net me at least one worthy of keeping in the MOC collection.

167
So, I watched the video review of this set that was posted over at Yakface and for whatever reason it didn't dawn on me until now that the Han/Carbonite is different from the previous release.

I was planning to keep the Han figure carded for my carded Han collection, but seeing that the figure apparently has the photo-real deco and the carbonite block has a magnet needed to work with the set, I guess I'll need to buy two Palace sets to get two Han figures- one to open and one to keep carded.  ::)

Not sure what I'll do with all the extra ReeYees...

Also, for the carded folks, the video confirms Carbonite Han = VC136 and Ree-Yees = VC137.  I have updated the JediDefender TVC Figure Release List with the numbers.

I think I'm going to be getting FOUR of these:

  • One to keep Mint-in-Box
  • One to open and keep the figures Mint-on-Card and put the carded figures with my MOC collection
  • Two to open and open up the figures because I have a minimum of 2x of each Vintage Collection figures opened

So, I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the two spare displays.

I've had the same experience Nick with each of the animated series - the first seasons have always seemed to be a struggle to get through. For some reason though Resistance seemed to be the hardest for me and I think it mostly stems from the fact that the goofiness factor on this show seems to be dialed WAY up compared to Clone Wars and Rebels.

Perhaps the reason why the final two episodes resonated better with me was because the goofiness was definitely dialed back, the story got serious, it tied in/overlapped with TFA and finally made it seem like the show was actually moving in some kind of a direction. I'm actually looking forward to see where the show goes in Season 2.

I would even welcome seeing the Colossus and its inhabitants pop up in EP9.

The Vintage Collection / Re: 2019 Vintage Collection Wave 1

Got my case of this wave from EE today.

Since I didn't open either of the carded Yakface figures that came with my Sail Barges, this was the first opportunity I had to actually open one since he comes 2 per case.

What an amazing figure! Hasbro really went all out on this figure in terms of both sculpt and articulation. Same thing goes with the Klaatu Skiff Guard. I pre-ordered 2nd openers of each from Hasbro Pulse, I may just be tempted to place another order for one more of each just because of how amazing these figures are.

The final two episodes of Resistance proved to me what I have been thinking all along.

The concept for this show was good for maybe two, perhaps three hours of programming and the other 15 or so hours we got were pure fluff that the writers had to come up with just for the sake of turning it into a TV show.

I don't want to spoil anything for anyone since I know a lot of folks don't keep up with this show, but the two-part season finale finally made this show seem like it mattered in the larger ST tale.

What I'm really hoping is answered at some point, is how the tesseract ends up going from Howard Stark's possession to Mar Vell's possession.  In The Avengers, Fury tells Cap that Howard found it at the bottom of the ocean when he was looking for Cap.  So was Howard involved in Pegasus then, and that's how the tesseract changed hands?  That seemed like a pretty big plot hole to me, more than people complaining about the pager and it's lack of use in previous Avengers films...

Howard Stark was directly involved in Project Pegasus. The Project Pegasus facility was the one blown up at the beginning of the first Avengers movie. This movie takes place after The Winter Soldier killed Howard Stark. So it's reasonable to assume that the Tesseract was left in the possession of Project Pegasus when Howard Stark was killed and Mar-Vell was sent to Earth by the Supreme Intelligence to acquire it and figure out how to use it as an energy source that could be used to help the Kree win their war against the Skrulls.

With regards to the pager, the ONLY movie where that's a problem is the first Avengers movie since a giant portal in space/time opened up and an alien race came pouring through. Why not call her then? The only logical explanation I can come up with is that Fury knew Carol's powers were from the Tesseract so perhaps he wanted to avoid having two like-powered entities on the field? Alternatively, since we're re-visiting the Battle of New York in Avengers: Endgame, have a quick scene which shows Fury contemplate using the pager at a moment when the battle seemed to be going against the Avengers, but then when the Avengers turn the tide, he puts in back into his pocket. Plot hole solved.

I'd also love to go back a bit and just go nuts like Ephont Mon, Hermi, that kind of thing.

The only way I think we'd ever get either of them again is if they boxed them like how you could get the Wampa in the old Kenner line - they are just too big for a vintage cardback, but they could be boxed in Vintage-styled packaging to give folks a second chance at getting both of them for their collections. I know I'd love to be able to grab an Ephont Mon for my Barge.  ;D

I finally got around to doing the sails this morning. I didn't really have that much trouble with them. I kinda lucked into the same technique that Justin mentions.

I did also have a heck of a time squeezing my hands into the back wall of the prison cell to attach those chains.

It was a lot of fun pulling figures out to staff the barge. I was even digging through boxes of Star Wars toys my sister gave me from the POTF2 through POTJ era. Unfortunately there wasn't a Tessek or Amanaman in there, but there was a complete set of Max Rebo's band 2-packs, a POTF2 Bib Fortuna which I'm going to use for now (my Saga one is staying with my Jabba's Palace display), a Pote Snitkin, 8D8 and EV-9D9.

I am most definitely for any TVC reissue of a TVC quality figure that was not released on a TVC cardback. There are great figures from the Legacy Collection and both Orange and Blue Black Series lines that would make for great Vintage Collection releases. Especially if the photo-realism paint technique can be applied and even more especially if it's a character or version of a character from the OT that was never put out in the originally Kenner line that would be great to see released that way.

Yavin Medal Ceremony Leia from the WalMart Black Series is a great choice along with the improved Yavin Luke.

Wouldn't mind seeing them release the medical frigate versions of Luke and Leia that came out in the Legacy Collection and I know the elbows aren't great, but I'd be fine with a re-release of the Lando in Smuggler's Outfit on a Vintage Card as well.

If the goal is to include existing sculpts with new sculpts to keep the overall costs of waves down, re-releasing desirable OT figures on TVC cardbacks seems like a no-brainer.

I keep bouncing back and forth between grabbing figures out of my Return of the Jedi cabinet to include in the barge and putting the barge together. I haven't tackled the sails yet, I've heard they are a total pain in the butt.

I'm trying to decide what C-3PO to include, do I include the 30th Anniversary Collection one with the pop-out eye? It's scene specific, but the sculpt isn't great but that release is a good candidate to grab a Salacious Crumb from for the Barge (heaven forbid they included him with Jabba in the barge).

No he's called Nikto Gunner from the Build a Droid series. Hasbro should have had a whole bunch of Jabba's goons on the pegs right now.

Lando is spot on with the remark that there should be Jabba Goons easily available right now.

You almost want to say that if this had been done a bit more like a kickstarter with tiers, if you had pledged $650 instead of $500 you got a "figure & accessory" pack to go with your barge purchase and it could have included one of every additional figure they are showing on the packaging, plus the Nikto Gunner and a couple of those clip-on deck cannons.

This way, if you have them already and don't need them, back at the $500 tier, but if you want to get everything you need for a nice display, back at the $650 tier. Considering that none of the figures are new sculpts asking $150 for 15 previously released figures, Salacious Crumb and some accessories isn't that unreasonable.

At least then they wouldn't have to put in the instruction manual "Collector's Note: For those collectors who own the Star Wars The Black Series Vizam figure and cannon, there are 4 C-clip ports to connect Vizam's cannon. (Figure/cannon not included and not available for sale.)"

On a $500 purchase, that last bit just seems pretty tasteless if you ask me. I think the start of the call-out says it all "For those collectors who own the Star Wars The Black Series Vizam figure..." no need to further drive the point home that you can't buy it now. I'm sure it was added by some lawyer.

(And full disclosure, I have three Vizam's opened and two Nikto Gunner's open, so I have more deck cannons then I have c-clip ports for, so this isn't me being upset that I can't fully deck-out my barge)

So... when are these preorders going to start shipping?!

Depends on the item.

If you missed the vintage figures when they were in stock and pre-ordered them, I believe they are expected to ship March 18th.

The Skiff and Skiff Guards 3-pack are both scheduled to ship sometime either end of August/early September, but that's so far out, I'm sure it could move between now and then and the date they've posted is probably a moving target.

Should they be lighting up on Brickseek under the Mimban Stormtrooper SKU or are they being put under the main Vintage Assortment SKU when you ring them up at the register?

I know the picture he's trying to show, I don't think those are build-a-droid/droid-factory figures, they are larger scale radio controlled buildable droids.

Found the pic:

Description from the article:

Quote
Build your own droids: Like the lightsabers, there will be a store where guests can build their own droids. It’s called the Droid Depot and it’s run by a character named Mubo. After choosing if you want to do a BB or R-series droid, you pick custom pieces, colors, and accessories to create your personalized dream droid. That droid will then be fully radio controlled and, if you guide it around Black Spire outpost, it can interact with many of the elements. There are also premade droids, like R2-D2, BB-8, and even DJ R-3X (more on him below).

And I would take a guess that the Rex droid is that DJ droid R-3X and he'll be premade.

So I guess it's possible that they are 3.75" scale like the other Build-a-Droid offerings and like those remote controlled astromechs from Japan about 12 years ago (which were awesome), the fact that you're able to put them together yourself sorta rules out the scale. I would expect the figures to be more in-line with the droids that Sphero released.

Edit - I was WAY off on that Sphero estimate, check out this pic from the D23.com website:

Gives a sense of scale of size of droid and it's packaging to an average height male.

Similar experience for me on the order I placed for 3 Scarif Troopers. I missed the other three, so I have pending preorders for them, plus for my MOC collection, a case on preorder from EE.

I did fair a bit better as Nick though, only one of my three Scarif Troopers came with any "damage" and that was only dings on the end of the cardback and a small crease near the hook hole. The other two are in great shape and for now I'm opting to leave it carded pending getting a better one in the case I get from EE.

Got my EE shipping notice

Got mine as well. I love when the exclusive-ish figures are as easy to get as: Step 1: Pre-order product; Step 2: Get product
