I got my order in a little over a week ago, and I'm glad that I did.  I'm still a little surprised that a vehicle like this would fall between the cracks.

I've been hearing that The Bridge Direct has apparently hired a number of former Toy Biz staffers.  And the news of the 6" scale figures is definitely cause to be a little more optimistic about this line.

There are applications for the iPad that are great.  And in other cases a laptop or desktop can do a better job.  The touchscreen interface is a significant barrier to getting a lot of work done.

For media consumption, like viewing movies or using it like an eReader?  It's great.  And I've been thinking about getting one for music applications where I can ditch my old sheet music texts and just put an iPad on a music stand for performances.  There's even a USB footpedal you can use to change pages.  And the tablet format is also good for making presentations.

I also think that generally a tablet (not just the iPad) is good if you're travelling and you don't want to haul a laptop with you.  Laptops used to be a secondary computer for people that they would use for travel, while the bulk of their files were on a desktop.  Fast-forward to now, and desktops are fading and people are using laptops as their primary computers, and a web ready tablet is their travel device.  I know that I don't want to travel with my laptop, even if laptops have slimmed down significantly.

I fully expected that kind of reaction from Greg(g).  The folks over there are nothing if not predictable.

The thing is, I look at the content that's coming out of RS now and compare it to Curto's work, and it's enough reason for me to not check that site for news.  He was the person who was generating the best Hasbro SW news over there.  Other people on the RS staff are just regurgitating press releases from companies like Sideshow.

There were a few parts that I don't recall from the book (like the Flower Knight giving Renly a BJ) but that's probably because the cast of characters is so large and there's so much going on.

That was added, to much discussion.  Martin claimed a relationship was "implied" in the books, but I think that may have been PR.  He said it was obvious, since Renly's protectors were the "Rainbow Guard."

There's a scene at the tourney where Littlefinger and Renly have a back and forth that implies as much.  Littlefinger asks Renly "When will you be having YOUR friend?" and looks towards Ser Loras.

The scene between Loras and Renly does establish more than their affair.  The Tyrell family ultimately backs Renly's claim no doubt at Loras' request, and because Renly needs the power and wealth of Highgarden in order to gain control of the Iron Throne.

Oh, and has anyone else spotted Brienne in the recent trailers?  I'm pretty sure I spotted her in the Rainbow Guard colors, and they are REALLY playing up her ugliness!

I read more about this non-story today.  A "reporter" claiming that "they know for a fact that figures have been sent back to the Wal-Mart distribution center".

REALLY?

Did they actually see the figures boxed up for shipping?  Did they see those boxes get put on a truck?  Did a Hasbro retail rep confirm this information independently?  A clear case of shoddy reporting if there ever was one.

Frankly, that sounds like a load of crap.  Or something one of the dumb WalMart clerks will say in order to get a collector to stop bothering them.

I can't even count how many times I've asked a WalMart associate for help only to have them say something stupid like "Oh, I think we're not even carrying Star Wars anymore".  It's something they say so that they can get you to go away because they don't want to deal with a customer.

Now is it likely that figures are getting boxed up and put in a stock room?  Sure.  WalMart is probably wise to the whole pricing issue and that they've probably lost a significant ammount of money recently.  They're probably pulling the figures so that the UPC's can be sorted out and they can charge the appropriate ammount for a figure.  Once that's done you're probably going to see figures back out on the pegs at full price and collectors lamenting the days of $4 figures.

And frankly, I don't know who looks more ridiculous because of that article:  the WalMart employee who utters that line of crap, or the person who hears it and believes that WalMart is shipping ALL OF THEIR STAR WARS FIGURES TO BENTONVILLE, ARKANSAS FOR REPRICING (caps for emphasis).

Witwer's take as Darth Maul, though, was amazing. The whole mentally insane was very suiting and it really makes you feel pity for the guy - he was this badass Sith Lord in EpI, and now he's living in his own scum and only half the person he was. ;)

I love how he's ranting, half-crying and giggling in insanity and Savage asks him who cut him in half - for a second Maul stops the whining and looks right at him and says "REVENGE"... a total "oh, sh**'s going down" moment.

When I first saw the behind the scenes video with Sam Witwer, I thought "OMG, he is totally over-acting, and he's gonna blow this".  But in the context of the animation and Maul's manic behavior it works.  And the "Revenge" moment at the end of the episode was a great way to wrap things up.

The serpent came across as something out of Paradise Lost to me.  And I also see the echoes of LOTR, too.

As for Obi-Wan and Yoda knowing Darth Maul's name?  I would suspect that the Jedi learned Maul's name following the Naboo crisis depicted in TPM.  Sidious told the Neimoidians that he was sending Darth Maul to them, so they knew him by name.  Nute Gunray and Rune Haako may not have given up Sidious in interrogations following the invasion of Naboo, but they may have given up Darth Maul's name.

One thing that momentarily took me out of the episode though?  The cargo ship's walker landing gear.  It just seemed like too much of a stretch considering that this starship was just some bulk freighter.

Dan is a pretty good guy once you get to know him.  And I could probably see him taking some time off from the game.  I know that personally he's got a bunch of stuff on his plate.  I don't think it's likely for him to publically air his dirty laundry, but there have been some political back and forths with the RS staffers for some time.

I picked up the season 1 box set at Target today.  I haven't watched it yet, but there's an exclusive disc that's included with the Target version.

A question for anyone who was collecting both the Thor line and the Avengers line:  are there any differences between the King Loki figure from the Thor line, and the new Loki figure in the Avengers line?
