Saga '02-'04 / Re: Favorite Acessories?
« on: August 5, 2003, 01:21 PM »
I agree with many others, really looking forward to Rieekan's screen....the accessories have really gotten bigger and better over the past year or so.  I also like Cloud City Chewie's 3PO, and the weather vane with Luke.  We also have that escape pod coming up with that 3PO possibly?...but which is the accessory...the pod or the droid?  Just kidding.  The Saga line has had its faults, but it has allowed us to get some great, in many cases larger, accesories.

I also noticed that theForce.net had a story (and link) up to scans of the cartoon's sketches that were handed out at Comic-Con, looks like these figures match up fairly well to those sketches.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Modern Masters of the Universe

Just curious, does anyone know when figures like Roboto and Zodac are expected to be hitting stores?  I've got plenty of other figures to look for, but these were a couple of my favorite figures when I was a kid (especially Roboto), and I was just curious when they might be showing up.  Also, went through a new Target nearest to us this past weekend, and I saw Prince Adam, Sy-Klone, Whiplash (as well as some variants of the big two).  I didn't pick any up, but might be going back this weekend....which would be the best one to pick up...going by "if you don't get it now, it might be gone"?  I was leaning towards Sy-Klone simply because I had the vintage version, but I hear Whiplash is a great figure as well.

Update--on part of my question, I was looking through the he-man.org forums, and see that they list the Roboto wave (Wave 6 Heroes - Roboto, Zodak, Shield Strike He-Man, and Sky Strike Stratos) as showing up in August...so maybe in a month or so people will start seeing them?

Does anyone know a sort of "wave breakdown" of the Spiderman Classics line?  I've tried to get to Toybiz's site, but it seems to be down right, but I was just curious which figures were in which waves.  Mainly, I was trying to see how up to date things are around here...and when the new Daredevil/Parachute Spidey wave might be showing up.  This past weekend I didn't do a lot of digging through the pegs, but I know I saw a lot of that Manga Spidey...so that must be the wave that's around here now.  Thanks.

I was just curious if anyone out there has (or has access to) a 25th Anniversary set of Han and Chewie (preferrably on sale if there is one in your area).  I have a set for my collection, but I recently got a little bigger desk (and space) at work, and I kind of wanted to pick up a loose set to display there.  If it is in a beat up box, or whatever, it doesn't matter, I was mainly just looking for a loose set, to hopefully pick up for cheap.  I missed them when they went on sale around here, and all I can find now is Luke and Leia.  If anyone has anywhere I could go online, or happens to have one in their area, I'd really appreciate it.  Thanks!

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Best of the Best

Luke - SAGA Bespin, POTJ X-Wing isn't too bad either, with the exception of the teeth painting.
Leia - POTJ Bespin Escape
Han - POTJ Bespin Capture (probably my all time favorite figure, due to the figure itself and Han is my fave character of the Saga), Commtech Han is great too.
C-3PO - only one I have from OT is the shiny gold one, I hear the MMC one is really well done.
R2-D2 - Commtech R2.
Chewbacca - Saga Cloud City Chewie.
Lando - POTJ Bespin Escape.
Darth Vader - POTJ Emperor's Wrath, SAGA Bespin one is good, flowing cape might be a bit much, and leaving the action feature out would be good too.
Palpatine - one from Episode 2 is really well sculpted, don't have a OT Emperor yet, waiting for the upcoming Saga one.
Darth Maul - Original EP1 Maul.
Count Dooku - Geonosian Escape, or 4/23, both are good.
Yoda - 4/23 (Jedi Master) Version.
Mace Windu - Episode I figure, Screen Scene one upcoming doesn't look too bad
Boba Fett - 300th.
Jango Fett - Kamino Escape.
Obi-Wan - POTJ Old Obi.
Padme - Droid Factory Chase.
Battle Droid - 4/23 White and Red.
Clonetrooper - Red Version.
Stormtrooper - Commtech version.

Middle Earth / Re: Lord of the Rings Figures

Thanks for the tips guys.  I just about picked up a TT Gollum this past weekend, but held off for now.  My wife isn't too crazy about me picking up another line, since I recently told her I wanted to collect a little of MOTU as well.  I think I might just choose between the two, but I'm kind of leaning towards LOTR for now.  I think MOTU might just be a "phase" I'm going through, and plus, I've seen quite a few complaints about that line.  Maybe I'll start my LOTR collection off with a Gollum this next weekend, if there are some still there.  Also, a new Target just opened where we shop, and they had some ROTK figures, Frodo, Sam, repack Aragon, and Eomer.  I was tempted to pick up a Frodo and/or Sam as well.  Anyways, thanks again for the advice!

Hey OCB, just curious what you thought of the Parachute Spidey.  I have been wanting to find a nice, red and blue Spidey that would display with my Marvel Legends figures well, and I had heard this is a pretty good figure.  Just wondering what you thought of it.  Also, thanks for the info on the Daredevil, I thought it looked pretty good in some pictures I saw online, and after (finally) seeing the movie on DVD (and buying it) this past weekend, I kind of want to pick one up as well.

Watto's Junk Yard / Favorite Movie "Franchises"?
« on: August 1, 2003, 12:44 PM »
When I was first going to post this topic, I thought "favorite movie trilogies", but some favorites have two movies, or four, or six, etc.  So, I went with the franchise tag, hope that isn't the confusing way to do it.  Anyways, how do you rank your favorite trilogies, sequels, sagas, franchies, etc.?  Here are my faves:

1.  Star Wars Saga (if I had to split them, the original trilogy would be first on this list by a landslide...the prequel trilogy would be second, but depending on how Episode III is, it might face a little competition from others, though when it comes down to it, its still Star Wars, and I still love it)

2a.  Lord of the Rings (I really feel this is the "Star Wars" for this generation, the way the OT was for us.  I feel the story of these movies is amazing, and I'm sure I would enjoy the books just as much...haven't read them yet.....but these movies aren't just great for effects, action, etc....they are just good movies IMO)

2b.  Indiana Jones (very close with LOTR for me, nostalgia might be a big factor in that.  I really enjoy all of these movies, and really don't get tired of watching them on cable either....can't wait for the DVD release in November :))

3.  X-Men (I really liked both of these movies so far, hope that they can continue for a few more without losing the entire cast.  Just fun movies)

4.  Austin Powers (I know some people don't care for them, but I think these movies are hilarious.  I have enjoyed each one so far, although some of the luster has worn off of the first one due to it being on television so much.  Still great movies, especially for a good laugh)

5.  Back to the Future (these were good movies as well, some of my favorites as a kid.  I enjoyed the first one by far the most though, and still haven't bought the DVD set for that reason, not sure if I want the other two as bad or not.  Second isn't too bad, never got into the third one for some reason though)

I'm sure there are more that I am forgetting right now, but that's the top of the list for me...that I can think of right off hand at least.  Any other opinions?

Other Toy Lines / Which is Your Favorite "Other Toy Line"?
« on: July 31, 2003, 02:12 PM »
Reading through the forums, especially this new one, I have noticed that many of you collect multiple lines.  I was just curious, which "other" line is your favorite?  Is there one that really generates excitement with you, or maybe it just isn't as frustrating with availability or case pack issues.  Whatever you reason, which is your favorite "other" line...and why do you enjoy it so much?  Personally, Star Wars is always first with me, and even though the availability can become frustrating, once I see pics of new product coming up, or find something new in the stores, my excitement is restored.  I have wanted to pick up a second collection (there are a few that I like), but I haven't been sure which way to go yet.  Marvel Legends, MOTU, Lord of the Rings, and Simpsons have all beckoned me at one time or another, but I've held off for the most part.  I collect only Spidey/X-Men related ML, so far I have Wolverine, Beast, Gambit, and Magneto...and I guess my interest hasn't been quite as high lately, due to the long wait for the next series...although these figures are amazing.  I haven't gotten into Simpsons, basically because I am just waaaaay behind, and there is a lot to get.  Finally, I have been trying to figure out if I can collect MOTU or Lord of the Rings (or both), but I haven't decided yet.  The MOTU line looks great (I only have He-Man), but Lord of the Rings really interests me as well (kind of this age's Star Wars I think in many ways).  Anyways, what is your favorite "other" line?

I've been debating on whether or not to collect one of the LOTR lines (the Toy Biz one or the 3" line), and I had a question for you Toy Biz collectors.  If I buy some of this line, I'd mainly like to get the main characters to start with (Frodo, Aragon, Sam, Gollum, Pip, Merry, Gimli, Legolas, Gandalf, etc.)  Which are the best versions of these characters to pick up (and are they somewhat easy to find still?).  I know that the last two times I've been out checking the aisles I have seen a few Gollums (don't know why I haven't picked one up yet), but I also see there is a articulated one coming for ROTK?  Maybe I am mistaken.  Anyways, just curious if you had any advice for me on collecting some of this line?  I'm just trying to decide which line to get, and then see if we can afford it.  Thanks for any advice.

Thanks for the links OCB, I searched and found the Green Dragon right after posting here, and I'm reading up on some of the stuff today.  I'm not sure my wife would be too pleased either, so I'm not sure if I will collect either line or not, but I would like to collect some of one or the other, not sure which yet.  I thought maybe since I'm just starting now, the 3" line might be easier.  But again, not sure if I can, I know I just picked up my first MOTU figure this week, and I'm not sure if the wife is overly fond of another toy line invading the house alongside Star Wars, and a handful of Marvel Legends :).  Thanks again for the links!

I have been considering collect some LOTR figures, although I wasn't sure which line to go with, the Toy Biz one, or these new 3" scale figures.  Are any of you collecting/going to collect these?  Also, is there a good site online that provides information on this line, and what is coming, etc.?  I know there was a great LOTR toy site somewhere, but I can't remember the address now.  Also, does anyone know, is the KBToys deal the only was to get a Gollum figure in the 3" line?  Something about $40 purchase, free Gollum figure...  Anyways, thanks for any help or advice you might have on these toy lines.
