LEGO / Re: LEGO Sales and Deals
« on: December 10, 2018, 12:28 PM »
Maybe its just me, but Lego sets seem to be way too expensive these days.  Either that or they're less interesting or I've just got way too many already.

I've got tons of Star Wars Lego sets (I'm a fan), but even for $90 this seems kind of expensive for a black tower, Darth Vader's TIE, and some mini-figures.

I've seen a bunch of other ones marked down throughout the year at 30% off, and often still don't feel like there is enough value.

Agreed. I get every set so I went ahead and picked it up at the $90 price tag which is A LOT better than the $130 price tag. I had one on backorder from Lego Shop@Home and I had it cancelled since they couldn't price match Amazon.

Yep - I ordered the additional two I was looking to pick up as well. Couldn't pass them up at that price.

I am honestly quite skeptical of there being any serious plans to tell more Rick Grimes stories by way of made-for-TV movies that air on AMC.

With how Rick exited the show, the producers hope they have prevented an all out mass exodus of what viewers they have left. Killing off Rick would resulted in many viewers of the attitude "this show was about Rick Grimes, Rick Grimes is dead, the show is over for me".

For at least the next year, they will keep trotting out Gimple who will be asked about the planned "Rick Grimes: Walker Hunter" movies and he will continue to say "we're working on them", but that will be solely to just keep stringing people along.

When the plug is pulled on the show, they'll have Rick Grimes miraculously come back for the last couple of episodes, weave in the best ideas of what they had for the Rick Grimes movies into the episode where he returns so he can explain "where he's been" and end the show outright.

Yak Face is also 2 per case.

Jayson - do we know the breakdown of this 2019 Wave 1 case? Are we finally at the point where it's a wave of 4 figures and each figure is packed 2 per case or is YakFace the "lucky" figure and Leia, Scarif Stormtrooper and Skiff Klaatu all packed 1 per case?

I'm hoping that the online retailers will be offering individual figure pre-orders so I can score a bunch of the Scarif Troopers.

I either missed the reports that Hasbro was doing that for the online retailers or no one really reported it, but I was VERY pleased to have my Range Troopers arrive from EE in a case that indicated it was a solid case of Vintage Range Troopers. So hopefully Hasbro will be doing the same with the Scarif Troopers.

Is the carded Mimban Han Solo the exact same thing as the one in the multi-pack?

Looks like it to me Rob.

I have both, but only the 6-pack one open, I have the one carded version that I've found so far still MOC. I gave up hitting my local Walmarts in hopes of finding this wave and just went in on a case from EE, so I should have one of the carded release opened to compare soon (my wave 4 case just shipped)

Collector's Tips / Re: Selling a Collection
« on: October 28, 2018, 04:02 PM »
I've been contemplating making a change myself. There was a point in time (prior to the sale to Disney) where I always had the thought in my head that "this line will be done soon" and I've been continuing to hang in for that reason.

But now? It's getting to the point where I'm starting to ask myself "why am I still doing this?"

I'm not going to stop collecting - I will still get at least one of everything to open and even if I do sell items out of my MOC/MIB/MIP collection, I'm going to hold on to everything that's been done in the Vintage Collection style packaging - that packaging design has a special place in my heart so I would definitely keep going with having a packaged collection of Vintage Collection items and I may also hang on to all of the Black Series stuff too. But everything else? Nope.

I would love to sell it in one lot to a place like Brian's Toys and just be done with it, even if it meant that for some items I wouldn't get as much as I could if I sold on eBay. Does anyone know anyone who went that route and if so, what kind of experience they had?

Like getting the Tank Commander. I could go either way with just getting one as an overall commander of my Tank group, or get four to command each of my tanks. (I don't have 4 tanks yet, but that's the goal.)

I'm thinking the same as you, while not four tanks - I currently have five open Tank Pilots - I'm hoping to score a 6th. I'm also watching sales on the tank itself. My hope is I'll be able to score 2nd and 3rd openers of the tank and then when the Tank Commander comes out, get three of him to open, so I'll have three completely staffed tanks.

I'm glad Disney/Lucasfilm are taking a stance on this issue and making some changes. Hopefully enough people will notice and there will be a shift in behavior among "fans".  :-\

Just saw two out today at my Walmart.  Kinda odd huh said that as I didn’t think it was shipping anymore.

I saw them tonight at a WalMart on my way home from work - and another store I was in the other day had a bunch as well. Either Hasbro shipped this assortment again, or WalMart found their shipment from Hasbro in the back of some shipping container in the warehouse where they accept shipments from China and are just now finally getting it out to their stores...  ;D

The Vintage Collection / Re: Vintage Collection Rumors

There are a few decent offerings that I've heard coming for 2019 TVC - all of which will complement the barge nicely.

Any figures that are actually new background characters???

From what's been announced we're currently at a 6/6 split of new vs. repack/repaint - so I'm hoping that of those two "TBA" slots at least ONE might be something that's all new, with the other being something that's a repack but never been on a modern Vintage cardback and *hopefully* a character from the original 92.

As long as we're sticking with the OT, other possibilities for straight re-release of the VOTC/VTSC figures include:
  • Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi (EP4)
  • Han Solo (EP4)
  • Princess Leia (EP4)
  • Luke Skywalker (Tatooine Farm Boy) (EP4)
  • Chewbacca (EP4)
  • R2-D2 (EP4/5)
  • Sand People/Tusken Raider (EP4)
  • Luke Skywalker (X-Wing Pilot) (EP4)
  • Greedo (EP4)
  • Bossk (Bounty Hunter) (EP5)
  • IG-88 (Bounty Hunter) (EP5)
  • Yoda (EP5)
  • Lando Calrissian (EP5)
  • Stormtrooper (Hoth Battle Gear) (EP5)
  • Princess Leia (Combat Poncho) (EP6)
  • Biker Scout (EP6)

Every one of those re-releases could be purely for the sake of taking the VOTC/VTSC figure and putting it on a "VC" card with an assigned number. I personally, include the VOTC and VTSC figures as part of the overall "Vintage" collection, but since they don't have numbers, they're not "technically" part of the modern/current Vintage Collection.

Some of those don't even need to be re-releases of the VOTC/VTSC figure since there have been some great updated versions of the character since, so that could mean that an entirely different figure is swapped in on the release - such as Yoda which could be a re-release of the Black Series (Orange) #22 figure. They could individually card all four of the figures from the Legacy Collection "Resurgence of the Jedi" battle pack on ANH cardbacks and I don't think ANYONE would mind.

And further mining the Legacy Collection as re-release potential, but also meaning that it would put character originally released in the Kenner line on a VC cardback:
  • Jawa (BD33 (2009) / BD04 (2010))
  • Ugnaught (BD43 (2009) or BD28 (2010) or a kit-bash combo that looks more like the Kenner figure)
  • Luke Skywalker [Stormtrooper Disguise] (BD30)
  • Malakili (BD22)
  • Paploo (BD18)
  • AT-AT Driver (BD49)
  • Zuckass (BD54)
  • Bespin Security Guard (take the body of BD50 with a new head and finally make a modern version of the mustached vintage figure)

Slave Leia was already released on vintage card (VC64).

You're right, my bad, I should have cross-referenced figures a bit better, I knew she had been re-released w/o the sitting/reclining legs, I just couldn't remember where, I guess it was twice, once for VC64 and again for VC88 - that just means they could insert her in, just like they're doing with the Gamorrean Guard, although, I wouldn't mind seeing them try to fit in the sitting legs for a Vintage carded release.

I wouldn't mind seeing them mine more of the Legacy Collection & Black Series releases that are characters related to the Sail Barge scene of ROTJ and just re-releasing them on Vintage card backs. I know that's boring, but at least it helps to bolster the offering of the Barge with even more figures to populate it...

Some great candidates are:
  • Vizam
  • Ree-Yees
  • Skiff Guard (Brock Starsher)
  • Giran
  • Nikto Gunner
  • Princess Leia - Legacy Collection BD17

The Princess Leia is a great choice as an exclusive. It means that the "Slave"/Dancing Girl outfit version of Leia can finally be offered on a Vintage Card and Hasbro doesn't have to worry about the backlash of parents seeing such a figure on the pegs at WalMart or Target. And if they could work it so that she also came with the alternate set of legs for the reclining position, that would be a bonus as I don't think that piece was ever re-released even though the base figure was.

The sculpts of Vizam, Ree-Yees and Brock Starsher are all Vintage quality and I just checked my Giran and Nikto Gunner figures which were Legacy Collection releases and they too are Vintage level articulation and sculpt IMHO as well.
