Other Toy Lines / Re: The Official 21st Century Toys Thread
« on: January 5, 2006, 07:07 AM »
The Sahara figures, for whatever reason, were sorta just a side thing for 21st.

I wouldn't say the heads are too big though, they're actually pretty good with some fodder and not great with others.  Like I saw Fritzkrieg use the Matthew McConnehey head on a Ki-Adi ROTS figure and it looks great actually.  The turbin heads look good on a number of fodder pieces too, and of course the heads are perfect with most POTF2 stuff since it's bigger, but yeah the Jedi Fritz made using the ROTS Ki-Adi body looked fine with the one head.

The figures are cool for modern military stuff and the turbins come off, that's aplus because they fit any SW head I've put them on and would be good for random background people.

The figures are a little shoddy quality though.  Not bad sculpts (bad likenesses though) but kinda cheap and fragile.  not 21st's normal quality work.

The line was weird.  It's like they got the license amidst their financial woes and couldn't deliver the product.  I want the desert jeep for SAS North Africa reasons, but I've seen nothing of it.

The figures seem to have come and gone.  I'm just as glad these didn't ship too heavily so the military figures are actually not backlogged cause of these guys.  They could have easily sat around considering the fim's popularity and this line's dismal look/effort.

They're really not bad customizing fodder though IMO, pretty great really for Star Wars and military customs.

That's a mid-order 66 Jedi, I swear.  Always laugh at the bugging eyes.

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Re: ATTE harness
« on: January 5, 2006, 02:57 AM »
I seem to recall popping the harness off without boiling it...  I think I may have popped one arm off, but it wasn't too hard really.  I know I was just careful in doing so, and didn't damage the figure at all.  I wanted it for just seeing how it would maybe look on a Stormtrooper for something.  Looked good.

Saga Collection '06 / Re: Battle of Hoth Wave
« on: January 5, 2006, 01:29 AM »
I have no bias, I go to whichever is cheaper, however that's only for Star Wars...  for groceries I tend to shop the big chain here over WM simply because I don't want a WM in my immediate (like 5 minutes away) area.  Nobody else seems to either since it's been fought fairly well.

For my area (Pittsburgh) shopping's funny.  I live a ways outside the city, in an area that's just not developed much and remains rural.  There's shopping 45 minutes in a number of directions, and that suits me...  it'd be nice if it was 20 minutes away but I live.  Long toy hunts is all.  I mean, just to hit 2 WM's and a Target and TRU, I'm looking at leaving around 6 and getting back around 9 or 10.  That sucks.

WM's where I'll get my SW fix for now till Target comes down.  I honestly would buy at the local KM if they were $5.99 or less...  I bought most of my POTJ figures there actually, literally saw every wave once there.  That was a good year.  I got final 12 there too on Black Friday and for real cheap.

WM and Target are hit and miss for me and I tend not to skip much if I want it unless I'm sure I'll see it at a cheaper price.

I probably shop more at Target than WM in general (I look at them as being just as shady as WM though in all likelihood) because the stores are cleaner and less congested around here.  I don't know why that is though...  Their checkouts seem more logically laid out and more are open though.  If they had self checkouts it'd be great.  The store's noticeably cleaner generally though and Target seems to not be so dreary inside, I don't know why.  I'm sure someone with a psychology background could tell us that though.

Neither seems to outdo the other on finds though, I clump them together in my opinion and until Target drops the price I'm not as interested in it.  I wanna find a cheapy cheap TIE Fighter at Target though and some Shadow Troops for cheap, haha.

WM's opening near my gf's house soon so I'm sure I'll be there more.  It's like 20 minutes away too so that's not bad.

I know there was some fun had by a few of us with him.  He's just a child, we've barely had trouble with him here considering how we handle the forums, so no big deal guys.  Not worth the conversation about him.  Over "there" he's a problem, but no more so than about 90 other people on similar levels of behavior.

I've looked and looked for TIE's and came up empty so far, that was a good deal.  I was hoping to get another myself but to no avail.

Power of the Force 2 / Re: EU Figures
« on: January 4, 2006, 01:29 AM »
Some spaz at the local Toy SHow in early December tried offering me a Dark Trooper in his "cheap figure box" for the low low price of *drum roll*

$80 (included getting a Sentinel too).

WTF?!?  What a tool.

I got my EU off of the Fan Club store at the time and got extras when I could.  They were impossible to find in Pittsburgh.  From what I've heard from the locals at the time, they either lucked into a few at TRU one day and never saw them again or they didn't see them and did what I did.  I've never heard of them being found by any of my local friends at any store but TRU, though at the time I don't THINK we had Targets.  That was about 1998 if I recall and Target hadn't opened here yet save for maybe out near the airport.  We didn't get a Target store till the exclusive Y-Wing shipped.

Wal-Mart stores were more sparse at the time too and I didn't hear of them getting any, nor KB or KM.

Sad because the Darktrooper's amazing really, and I would buy a couple Katarns for customizing.

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: TRU Naboo 4-pack
« on: January 4, 2006, 01:24 AM »
I'd say the 3 packs worth getting were:

-Imperial Forces
-Hoth
-Naboo

I'd rank Naboo behind Hoth and Impy though.  The Hoth set gave you the droid, the open bellie Taun Taun...  It was just better IMO, and the Imp one was great besides Vader.

The Naboo one had a great droid, I liked the Kaadu too actually and a Gungan Warrior wasn't bad.  I hate that Naboo dude though.  I'd buy dozens of that battledroid if dumbass Hasbro would offer them though, it's a vastly superior figure IMO.  Ya know, cuz it like stands and stuff...  Nothing major, just the common sense things.

Gungans don't suck Brent...  People who like Gungans suck.

J/K  I actually liked the Gungans as a species, I just hated Boss Ass and Jar Jar.  I thought Tarpals and the others were quite believable aquatic aliens.  Had the aforementioned blights been limited in their "humor" and had they spoken an alien language using subtitles instead of the lame voices they had, I think the Gungans could've been really effective story tools as opposed to just tools.

Oh and Ewoks rule, don't you start!  I love 'em! :)

Back to the Dolphin marriage...

This just has me howling out loud right now in laughter:

Quote
"I made a dream come true. And I am not a pervert."

Oh I wish all stories could end that way...  Sadly there's always one part of that equation missing, isn't there? :)

If you HAVE to end your dream come true statement with "And I'm not a pervert", then you probably are.

BTW on the automatic weapons thing I actually know some guys in groups like that.  I've gotten to shoot some pretty sweet antique firearms like a Thompson used in WW2, and a German MG440.  I loved firing them at a range...  We didn't shoot a Thunderbird (I was pissed, I could've used some parts off that car before they blew it up) but it was still a blast to shoot at targets.  The Thompson was just great though.  I'd known about its kick and to aim low when firing and it basically can spray upward, and it does just that.  Cost the guy that owned it a fortune though, and he only brought it out like once a year at most.  Rest of the time it was on display in a case custom made for it.

Great Shadow Troop price man, wow.

I wish I could get a couple more.  I haven't even managed a team of those yet but I missed out on any clearance around here.  They sold actually for the most part, and even the Lava figure of Anakin sold out before clearancing.  I do think these clearances on shadow troops is a good sign that maybe Target's gonna either rethink the pricing or just give up on some of these ideas.
