Some less than stellar reviews coming in on the "Modern Troops" exclusive SDCC 4-pack.  Not to worry Matt, I'm still happy to get them when they arrive! :)

BTW I'm gonna pay you...  Honest.   :-*  :-\

The whole wave, from what I'm hearing, is underwhelming in sculpt...  Articulation lacking on some.  I can first-hand confirm that the U.S. Spec. Forces guy (Donned in a kind of "Hunting Bin Laden" digs) does NOT have nice leg sculpt, or articulation.  It's like his articulation's too low...  Very strange.

That figure, at least, isn't one of their better sculpts, and from what I can see one of the Afghani guys looks similar.

The Royal Marine and other Afghani I'm hoping for good things on.  We'll see when I get ahold ofo them.

Evilchuk at GP's was giving a little review, and mentioning he has a lot of Eversparkle's interlocking playset.  Wonder what he thinks of those though?  I got one of those n the way too as I've noted.  Should be good news on that at least.

I'm still happy to get at least 2 half-decent looking figures from that modern set, including a freakin' middle-eastern guy.  I mean, if you asked me last year if we'd ever see Iraqi's or Afghani's, or a militant muslim looking guy I'd have said never in a million years.  Now look...  Go figure. :)

SW: night of the old republican 2 - Jango Pesic

Totally off-topic but I'm laughing my ass off at your sig.  That's rich.

Sounds like a really funny documentary about Ronald Regan's space defense program.

That's funny Jeff.  Good use of some of the more complex fodder to use up.  Fat guys just rarely translate to good fodder.

The only thing I'd do is change up his pants to match...  maybe shave off that front thing (sash thingie) and make him wearing those big Joey Buttafuoco pants or something.   ;D  Dunno why but that makes me laugh out loud.

Always rent it of course...  Make sure.

Myself, I think he's funny, but I think he's funny the same reason I think the interviews are funny on the Daily Show.  People look dumb.

The difference here is that oon the Daily Show they're often morons anyway, or most would consider them such.  On Da Ali G show, a lot of these people are protecting us, and making the decisions that will affect our lives, and even the world as a whole, for many years.

They're still dumb.

I personally think the $23 would be worth it just to see his character from Kazakhstan...  Borat.

"I want to make romance to you...  Only if you allow".

Drunk or sober, that is a funny character every week.

I really don't do many high-end collectibles.  I have a Tarkin Bust, and that's about it, so I'm actually liking these images.  May go with "military" helmets from the line...

IE: No Vader and likely no prequal stuff, but I'd consider doing Imperial/Rebel helmets.

They're really  nice...  Kinda makes Hasbro's 12" figures look silly really.

My F'n Madine's  hand broke when I was doing a review for him.

Great figure...   crappy plastic...

I like this wave, and they're excellent custmizing materials and army building fodder, but damned if they didn't short us on them.  They still hit here too though.  Peple find them from time to time and post.

I need a couple more of each, but really need a Madine.  I hope their OTC run's substantially better than Saga has been.

I'm content with that, especially if the Greivous is a more "clone wars" representation like reported, since rumor is he won't be so CW-ish in the film.

Another astromech.  Yay!

Wookies are cool.

Other guy...  Uh, great I guess.  Dunno him and I've avoided most major plot things, so cool.  Random guys are good.

Oh Dave, I'd KILL for bootleg Star Wars in the U.S. that was half as nice as stuff like this.  It just is dangerous water for a company to tread.

With militaria, they can copy without trampling on toes, so long as they don't directly copy licensed material, like plane names, vehicle names, historical character names, etc...  Like 21st has the license to reproduce Gen. George Patton, which was rather expensive.  As well as a license to repro Dodge products frm the war.  I guess BBI has the rights to "Humvee" though.

Contrary to popular belief, these little licenses cost TONS to these small toy companies, and have much less/shorter earning potential than Star Wars does to Hasbro.  In the end they're equally expensive, if not more so, but the companies shell out big bucks for them.

Plane names, squadron insignia, and I guess noseart are also all copywritten materials as well.  I learned a lot from my long discussions with some of these companies over the years.  They give you some really good insight into the industry that Hasbro rarely ever shares, and they give it to you from a truly costly perspective due to their size.

I'm gonna miss it tomorrow night.  I'm running to a wrestling PPV, but plan to On-Demand it if that's available on that service.  It should be.

My buddy Dan just got into Da Ali G show as well...  Tremendous.  I'm finding a lot dislike the show overall though.  I don't get that.  Some who love the Daily Show's bits are critical of Da Ali G show.  Doesn't make sense to me, but whatever.

That's a good Q.  It's, more or less, what the pre-order was for, but in different packaging.  What if yu just pre-ordered one figure though?  Hah!  :)

The Wookiee Arcade / Re: Star Wars Galaxies - Not Star Warsy enough
« on: August 14, 2004, 02:16 AM »
I recently did a 14 day trial (before it ends) and I can say that it's a nice game, kinda funny, but not "Star Warsy" enough to me.

There's no cohesiveness.  I couldn't figure out if huge battles erupted (I mean, the galaxies amidst a civil war.  Battles and the "front" should be available to at least go to).

I fund that finding buildings and stuff was a pain.  I ran around Mos Eisly and not once did I see the Cantina. :(

Getting near "known" characters was a pain, like Jabba...  Traveling between towns was a pain.

I just wasn't "wow'd" by it.  It seems like an immersive thing, but I guess I just need a story.  A point and plot.  If battles would've been viewable...  Like say the Empire's seiging a planet, and there's just war taking place there.  That I'd have liked going to see (at your own risk, like).  Oh well.

I couldn't really tell you fair prices.

I tried selling my Panther one time and had no buyers, ya know?  I'd likely sell it for $60 though...  It's a cool tank, but I don't even have it displayed anymore.

The Tiger was REALLY widely available, and there's repaints supposedly coming (WInter one anyway) so I'd hold off on buying that one myself.

It's a nice tank thugh.

SCORE!

Went this evening to grocery shop and hopped off at KM too, and low and behold they just started putting them out.  They're abut $21 a set (yikes).

I got two perfectly mint ones, and that was it.

Now, I'm gonna hope they just hadn't put out stuff yet...  They had boxes lying around yet to put things up so I'll be looking for extras.  I think there might have been more there.

I don't have the $ at this exact moment, but I'm gonna try for at least one next week.  I should have some $ coming in from stuff I unloaded.  I'll try to help one of you guys out if I can then.

He spiced it up over there.

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: VOTC Stormtrooper availability?
« on: August 13, 2004, 12:20 AM »
I'm reading a lot online that these are "pegwarming", and overflowing at some stores.

Just not the case in Pittsburgh.  There's remnants hanging around, but Han's and Leia's aren't exactly "pegwarming".  I'd say Luke's backing up a little now due to crappiness.  Ben as well.

I just don't see this "pegwarming" really being the case on wave 1.  Maybe Pittsburgh is the exception to the rule this time around.  I dunno.

I want to maybe see this weekend or something what's out and abuot here right now.  As it stands, we're doing ok and I'm hoping Wave 2 and 3 each see good distribution.

I still hope Hasbro has the God given common sense to re-release a lot of these figures in some fashion, be it army building, or sets, or whatnot.  Fett, Vader, and Stormtrooper especially strike me as "hot" figures no matter how you release them.
