Collections / Re: Chronicling the construction of my Collection Room
« on: October 28, 2004, 04:56 AM »
Coming along nicely!  How much longer do you anticipate until you feel like you're close to a finished state?  Must feel good though just making some progress.  A lot of my collection is boxed up due to lack of space.  Hopefully I'll have some more space when we get a new place next year.

Once I finish putting stuff up on this last bookcase I have (off to the right of the vintage bookcases) I'll be close enough to a finished state that I'll be content. The thing is there will be stuff that I won't be able to put up, mostly old POTF2 figures, so the entire collection won't be completely displayed, no biggie there though. What I won't be entirely happy with is the lack of space for some dioramas I'd like to do, especially the Battle of Hoth and the Emperor's Arrival (of which I do plan to take a picture of just for poops and giggles), There's going to be space right under my windows, but that's more likely to be taken up by some boxes, most notably the Saga Imperial Shuttle box and the shipping case for the Naboo Royal Starship each of which will have many smaller boxes inside. It definitely feels good to have made such a huge jump in progress, from where I was in July to where I am now. I was getting such a huge itch to put the Vintage up, but one thing or another kept getting in the way. As you'll soon find out when you have your collection out of their cardboard prisons, it can be an exhilirating feeling.

So what's with the vintage figure in the clear baggie in the top right corner?  Also, has your Max Rebo really faded that much?  Or is there something weird about that figure that I don't know about?  Haven't pulled my vintage one out in years, but hopefully it hasn't deteriorated in a similar manner.

Keep the ideas coming!

The vintage figure in the clear baggie is a Brown haired Bespin Luke in a Kenner baggie. I had bought it off of ebay for dirt cheap and had intended to open it to have a loose Bespin Luke in my collection, but then I went and found a loose and complete Blonde Hair Bespin Luke incl. the blue backpack at a comic shop for next to nothing. So with the blonde Luke in tow, I just never opened up the brown Luke and have grown attached to it being in it's "original" state. Yeah my Max Rebo has faded that bad, I can't recall if he looked that faded when I picked the set up a few years back, but unfortunately time has not been kind to ol Maxie. As far as I have seen on the net, most Max Rebo's when they fade will tend to do so as badly as mine has. Sometime down the road, I'd like to replace him with crisper one, but first I'd like to finish up the loose figures collection before swapping out poor conditioned ones. Some of these figs are from my childhood and are pretty beat up, especially the Bespin Han.

Thanks again to everyone for all the comments, I'm happy to see the interest in my long journey.

Cheers!

The Original Trilogy / Re: Why Lucas tinkered with Star Wars!
« on: October 28, 2004, 02:43 AM »
From the interview on Apple.com mentioned on the front page....

Tweaks and Shrieks
As with many restorations made with the cooperation of living directors, the “Star Wars Trilogy” introduced content changes, mandated by Lucas, to conform narrative and look and feel in the original trilogy with characters and visuals introduced in the later films. Some were controversial with fans.

Jim Ward deflates the issue by scaling the controversy: “At the end of the day an artist has a right to do what he wants to do to his work. For many years, George has worked to achieve the original vision he couldn’t achieve in 1977 or in 1997 (Special Edition).

So it makes maybe a good headline, but it’s hardly a controversy. We sold over $100 million in one day of this DVD around the world, so I don’t think anybody’s too upset about it. And any changes that George made, they might be controversial to about 5 people.”

As one of those "5 people", might I say to Jim Ward and George Lucas.... **** YOU!

Dude can i like borrow these for just a few years please??????

No dice man, I learned long ago not to loan out my Star Wars toys to other kids, they'll go off and trade them to someone else for COPS or He-Man.

True story that happened to me once, I was so pissed.

hahaha just watched it from the link logray provided, hilarious stuff. so the vocal tape goes off, she tries to act like nothing happens and does her stupid lil dance, then cant take it any more. meanwhile the poor saps who are playing guitar look at each other, realize what crappy work they're stuck with and just move on. classic stuff.  i take it she made the excuse later on in the show after they came back from commercial?

Thats nice for all of those millionaires, and such, but what about Average Joe who can't afford that sort of cash? Am I earthbound for life?

Kevin

I heard recently that within the next decade that if sub-orbital flights similar to what spaceship one did is more common, it could an average of $10,000 per person. could be interesting if that is the case, sure its still a lot of money, but its something some people could save up for and be in reach of the goal

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: My Halloween Rant
« on: October 24, 2004, 03:50 AM »
yeah as you get older, halloween gets overall less and less important. though i kinda do look forward this year to it, as the place im living at now is bound to get some trick or treaters. thankfully for the kids its on a sunday this year, if it was during the week, the kids would only have a couple of hours to trick or treat, my town has a 6pm curfew on halloween. man i remember doing trick or treating to well close to 10pm back in the day and get tons of candy, but psycho ***** have ruined things for the kids.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: What kind of car would you buy if.....
« on: October 24, 2004, 02:41 AM »
hmmm  my ideal car is actually a Corvette ZR1. The 1991 version was a 25th anniversary edition I believe of the Stingray/ZR1 design and was I think the last year of the ZR1 design, so that's what I would go with. Cherry red convertible of course :)

Also, there's guys there that simply aren't respectable...  The kind that fight just to fight, argue a point when they're wrong (Some even being proven they were arguing the opposite way in other threads), and won't back down at all...  These are people that simply like hearing themselves talk, and making sure everyone else has eyes on them.  Little attention from their parents, so they crave it on internet forums.

Jesse, I think I know who you might be talking about. Hmmm. Anyway.

Gimmick Infringement!!!!!!  ;D

Carpeteria: As a response to your last post, I think why most people here are complaining about scum has to do with how those board for the most part have been raped and pillaged from what we knew when it was the BHC. The diluted, watered down, annoying bull**** that goes on there is bothersome. It's hard to find decent conversations there that does not end with some assclown either making a spectacle of themselves or bitching out someone else for disagreeing with them. Plus it's all not about complaining here, we're also entertained by the hypocrisy that goes down there. People who are the worst of the worst, being welcomed back with open arms and literally treated like gods, people claiming they 're "smart" and when proven wrong, huddle in their little corner only to pop back up later on espousing their superior knowledge as if nothing happened. It's some funny stuff there sometimes.

Is Audioslave still together?  Haven't heard anything about them for a while

I heard recently they were in the studio working on their 2nd album. I thought the first one was pretty good, Chris Cornell sounds as if he has the enthusiasm back, I felt he kinda lost that near the end of Soundgarden. And the rest of the band sure sounds a whole hell of a lot better without all that pseudo rap **** that they tried with their old lead singer in RATM.

Meijers: OTC Dagobah wave

"Metro police are not some 'Barney Fife rent-a-cops,'" Teamsters Local 639 business agent Terrence Edwards said in a press release last week.

Sure sounds like they are to me. Basically, guys who couldn't get into the police force playing cops and robbers in the subway. Tasteless actions.

hahah so i just got asked by this one guy who ive was just basically arguing with in wuher's in the wrestling trivia thread if i could be a reference for him in his quest to become a mod. initially i thought no, i don't know you and i dont really care what the hell happens to the scum boards. but then i started thinking, ya know why not be a reference for him, if he became a mod he it would help lead towards the further deterioation of the scum. dilemmas, dilemmas, what do you all think i should do?  ::)

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: "Transition" figures. You buying?
« on: October 21, 2004, 10:40 PM »
I'll preobably pick up a Sandtrooper as it would help to have a 2nd POTJ sculpt around instead of all the POTF2 sculpts. Would be perfect timing for Hasbro to do multiple colored pauldrons, but looking at the case assortment that Nataku provided, there isn't much room for such a concept. Oh well, there's always customizing :)

Jason,

Thanks for sharing.  There is just something about looking at vintage stuff, I can never look at them too much.  So many good memories associated with this stuff.

DBK

I know whatcha mean DBK. Not a day goes by that I don't take a few minutes to appreciate the collection. A bit weird? Yes, but very satisfying too.
