Saga '02-'04 / Re: What killed the deluxe line?
« on: May 6, 2003, 10:58 PM »
I'd say overproduction is a killer for the Deluxe line primarily...

Figures for $10 just aren't going to go anywhere fast.

BAD figures for $10 aren't gonna go anywhere at all.

The Bacta Luke rocked to me, but Deluxe Maul (The supposed crap figure of that wave) outsold it by a long shot, at least in every retail outlet I ever visited.

Hell I STILL find Bacta Lukes, but Maul is long gone.  Go figure...

The line could be a LOT better, just like the upcoming 4-packs, the army builder packs, the accessory sets, and Hasbro's entire vehicle line...  Will Hasbro improve any of those though?  Eh, not likely.

The Original Trilogy / Re: Death Star Survivors?
« on: May 6, 2003, 04:13 PM »
I've thought about it, and I feel that at the moment Luke fires his torp, Impy's in the hangar areas maybe were inclined to bug out.

Tarkin I feel was likely too far from a hangar to escape, as most others were...  That and the fact a hangar only has so many vessels in it...

For instance, TIE's (for the most part) hang in racks that have to have an order in which ships leave.  IE: 36 TIE's in a rack cannot all leave at once...  Only the front 4, or whatever, can haul butt immediately, etc...  Plus if you factor in the idea that tractor beams guide fighters in and out of hangars then it kills almost ALL thought of TIE's manually leaving.

A shuttle though with maybe the immediate personnel hauling butt kinda seems neat.

To me in my lil SW world, I accept the Force Commander storyline that Veers was a Col. aboard the DSI.  He took a shuttle upon the station's imminent destruction (When Luke launched the torp) and punched it...  It suffered damage in the shockwave and he crashed it on Yavin IV (Where you as an up and coming officer must send a party to rescue and protect Veers).

I'm not so sure Bast made it out (That is the guy who warned Tarkin about the possible loss).  Tech Commentaries really thought it out in a rationale sense...  They seemed to feel people like himself would've had a means of escape established because they knew of the danger.  I didn't detect a ballsy maneuver like that being within Bast's personality.  He seemed like a smart guy, but one who listened to his CO (Tarkin).

On the other hand, he did analyze their attack.  He said so.  Which implies he was taking some initiative about the attack, to learn just what the REAL danger was.

I sort of want to go with Bast escaping, but could you imagine the trouble HE would've been in?  His direct CO was Tarkin!  He would've left his CO basically.

Veers on the other hand wasn't directly under Tarkin's orders, so maybe Veers (and some others, possibly even in the thousands of personnel?) were ordered by their CO to try and fill shuttles to escape.

It is reasonable to assume they KNEW the torps had gone in the exhaust port though, and that distance thing with the surviving rebels really makes me wonder...

Plus, you'd not be able to see the ships trying to leave the DS because they'd be substantially closer.  But then comes the question of how many of them didn't escape the blast....  A whole other topic.

I'm one who runs with the "some survived" idea...  I've never liked the thought that EVERYONE died.  They maybe weren't important at all (Veers would be slightly), but some maybe did.

Always fun to speculate I always say...

Oh goodie, because this is a place that NEEDS resculpts!

The figure's I list are just what I want with their "dream" features, but either way I want the figure.  Hasbro may do SOME of the stuff listed.

1) Hoth Rebel Footsoldier (Fleet Trooper)...  White uniformed guys that we have a figure of.  Resculpt with 16 points of articulation (wrists, shoulders, biceps, elbows, knees, neck, waist, boot tops, hip/thighs).  Removeable helmet with 3 head variants (bearded, clean shaven brown hair, clean shaven blonde hair).  Functioning holster for RFT blaster as well as blaster rifle, backpack and macro binoculars.  I'd also give him a cloth scarf on his hat as well as removeable goggles.  :)

2) Imperial "Snow" Stormtrooper...  16 Points of articulation like above, functioning holster, maybe a removeable helmet with a generic impy head underneath?  Cloth skirt piece, and cloth face mask a must for poseability.  Comes with blaster rifle of course, and I'd throw in a lil explosive or grenade for them, just for fun.

3) Dagobah Luke Skywalker...  Uber-poseable, with at least 16 POA.  Give him his gear from the Saga X-Wing, and a WELL MADE cloth jacket that he can have on, but opened...  ALso a removeable belt/gun holster for when he puts it on to go in the cave...  Of course, his lightsabre as well.  One must, he MUST be able to stand on his hands, but still hold his weapons.

4) General Maximillian Veers...  Removeable hat, removeable body armor, removeable belt w/holster, removeable helmet with goggles, and blaster pistol.  16 points of articulation.  This guy will be the ULTIMATE Imperial officer figure.  He'll sell by the truckload just so people can make customs.  I guarantee no pegwarmer here!  Oh and give him a mini holo Vader to talk to. :)

5) Han Solo (Hoth Gear) ...  Give him a ton of articulation (16 points?) and a cloth hood that pulls down.  Removeable helmet, functioning holster, removeable goggles...  The new Hoth Han does not cut it in my book...  Nice sculpt, but bad action figure IMO.  I doubt my Hoth Han ever comes to fruition, but I'd like to see him some day by my own hand maybe.

6) Jeremy Bulloch Imperial Officer...  Just to have Bulloch as a figure, I'd love to have him as the blonde Impy on Bespin that hides behind Leia.  Removeable hat of course so we can make neat Boba Fett customs. :)

7) Lando Calrissian...  Cloth coat again, better poseability and more neutral pose.  Give him a stormie blaster and Bespin Gun or something...  Just give me a normal Bespin Lando that I can pose some.

8 ) Lobot...  For god's sake, do Lobot over...  Yeesh!  OOGLY figure, in desparate need of a resculpt.

9) Hoth Rebel Technician...  Multiple points of articulation, and he comes with TWO hats (and a couple variant heads).  The first hat is the long brim "ballcap" type hat.  The second one is a soldiers cap...  2 figures in one I say!  Give him some tools too maybe?   They'll look great wranglin' your taun-taun, or fixing your X-Wing.

10) Yoda...  Poseable legs, cloth coat, belt, snake (orange and brown versions. :D ), gimer stick, cloth backpack that he fits into...  A great and needed figure, plus he will go VERY well with the aforementioned Dagobah Luke.

The Original Trilogy / Death Star Survivors?
« on: May 5, 2003, 11:39 PM »
So, ya think?

Star Wars Tech commentaries made mention of this possibility, and the game Force Commander also made mention of General Veers being a Colonel aboard the DS who escaped upon seeing the possible destruction of her.

The distance away that the Falcon, X-Wings and the one Y-Wing were could suggest that there was some time between the DS's explosion for some personnel to make it to shuttles or fighters and leave...

Veers' shuttle was damaged in the escape and he crashes on Yavin IV (He's a secondary goal in one of the missions you are commanding).

It's an interesting debate...  I personally feel several of the station's crew might've made their way to shuttles to bug out...  Guys like Bast who saw a distinct possibility in the station's destruction maybe were making early preps...

Your take?  What do you believe?  Think I'm nuts?  :)

Personally Matt,

I've never been happier with a PC than I am with the one I have now.  I bought mine from a reputable guy in my area that hand builds PC's and also does maintenance.  He's nearby, and usually able to help me right away when I have any problems.

The great thing is though, that I rarely have problems with my PC.  As a matter of fact, the only problems I've had have been outside troubles like a power surge.

The machine iteself has never given me any problems that would have been the builder's fault.

He also works out pretty decent deals for me when I get upgrades and he does them all himself.  Since I send business his way, he's always willing to sell me stuff like say RAM when it's at its lowest price (He lets me know) and cuts me deals on extra stuff sometimes.  He's even installed software he knows I want, but can't buy (ssssshhh) :D

I feel sure there's someone like that in your immediate area that you could go to as well.

With that said, if you're gonna game my suggestion to you is to get one with extra RAM, a TOP end video card (Geforce 4 or higher if they've got newer ones out), and a fair sized hard drive.

I do a fair bit of gaming (especially on PC) and so my machine's built around that.  Games take up a bit of space, but are usually great fun...  The higher the RAM and vid card you get though, the less likely an upgrade is for you in the near future.  I have run off my vid card for a couple years now, and it isn't even top end.

That's my general advice though...  I like the convenience of the guy that built my PC.  I never worry about it, and so long as I do the regular maintenance it stays in great shape. :)

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Star Tours wave 3 FINALLY!
« on: May 5, 2003, 05:24 PM »
Hey Matt,

Hell if you're gobbling up all the Star Tours wave 3 you can find, I'll take one of each. :D

Gotta keep that completist habit going.

Clone Wars '03-'05 / Re: Clone 3-pk ...does it suffice?
« on: April 30, 2003, 04:10 PM »
honestly, Hasbro's a whacky bunch...

They could/should have made ONE mold with SUPER articulation and a neutral pose.  The articulation would've sufficed any action pose one could want (With a stand included), and the neutral pose would make the rest of us happy.

The figure could be cranked out again, and again, and again, and again...  You want new ranks?  Hasbro gives em to ya by cranking him out in just different decos.

You want a pilot?  Great, you get a pilot!  They need only sculpt a new head.

He'd be poseable to ride speeder bikes.  He'd be poseable to stand at attention.  He'd be poseable to kneel or lay prone.  He'd be poseable to march.  He'd be poseable to stand firing a rifle at the hip, shoulder, single-handed, or double-handed...

The dude would do it all, and Hasbro would have made maximum use from a single set of molds, and yielded maximum profits.

And to top it off, we'd not be having this discussion right now...  We'd either welcome extreme posed 3-packs of clonies, or we'd be seeing the clones in the 3-pack be the uber-poseable version we all wish Hasbro had the good sense to make.

Such is life in this hobby though it seems.   ;)

Hmmm, I think it is AE, but not sure...  I'm 99% sure it's 1:18 though.

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: Why didn't the Geonosian Warriors fight?

Yeah Mac,

There was at least the one with the gun as I recall, and a couple others I think bit the dust at some point during the battles opening moments.  I think for the most part they scattered once the battle REALLY opened up though as I recall.

Nicklab,

I think I've seen some use the fountain, but that's a costly set piece...  I'd wait for it to go on further clearance.  They're still $20 here, but I'm hoping for a drop in price eventually!

And let me make note that this is the definition of irony! :)

I come here to the site because I'm sorta gonna be here in some "Official" capacity and maybe gonna mod/help out, and yet I screw up and post in the wrong forum!

D'oh!

:)

Sorry Ewok...

I saw Prequal and went right for it, not even seeing a separate section for spoiler material.

http://www.21stcenturytoys.com/1-18_iraqi_freedom.html

Yes, even MORE news...

The modern figures got pictured today.

The figures have some weaker versions and I can confirm the U.S. Spec. Forces guy SUCKS!  I have him, he comes with the Humvee.  He's a TERRIBLE figure.  Do NOT buy him under any circumstance!  haha

The ROyal Marine looks great though, as do the "Iraqi's".  If you ask me though, this whole line was set up for the war in Afghanistan, not Iraq.  IT was changed due to the war in Iraq's current popularity I believe.

Those "Iraqi's" look like Afghanistan citizens to me.  They aren't wearing traditional Iraqi garb anyway, but they do look Afghani to me.

The U.S. Delta guy, Spec. Forces guy, and armor guy look very rough to me, and like 3 of 21st's weaker (If not weakest ever) figures.

The good news though you ask?  BBi's modern 1:18 figures are FREAKING AMAZING, and need to be seen.

PLEASE look up the Toy Fair 2003 coverage at Small Blue Planet or Raving Toy Maniac or one of these other toy sites to see the BBi US Marines 3-pack, Blackhawk, Little bird, and humvee...  Amazing stuff, and all would trounce 21st's modern figures.

Something to keep in mind!

That 21st Century Royal Marine is a nice figure though, as are the "Iraqi" guys.

The Prequel Trilogy / Ya Hear about A wookie (Spoiler maybe)
« on: April 24, 2003, 01:14 AM »
Announced today that Peter Mayhew will be reprising his role as Chewbacca for E3.

I can't say I'm happy to hear this...  Sure his age is able to allow him to fit in, but I hate the "Need" Lucas has to tie everyone we already know to everyone we want to know more about.

It diminishes the story somewhat...  Tarkin I'd have liked to have seen as a young upstart politician/supporter of Palpatine in the opening years of the Empire/end of Clone Wars.  I'd also come to accept teh droids...

How will they incorporate Chewie into this though, and him not remember/know anythhing that's going on?

What makes him NEED to be tied into this?

Nothing I say, and he could've just been the character we've grown to love as is.

Oh well...  Lucas's gig, he can trash it however he pleases.

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: Why didn't the Geonosian Warriors fight?
« on: April 24, 2003, 01:12 AM »
Some Geonosians did, quite a few actually, but it appears to me the Geonosians were sliced through by Jedi 10x easier than the droids, so the loss of life probably drove them to just let the droids handle it...  And the droids did, till Yoda showed up with the Clone reinforcements.

Anakin killed countless Geonosians himself though, so I believe that was their thinking...  They build the droids to save sacrificing themselves anyway, let the droids fight.

The Wookiee Arcade / Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike
« on: April 24, 2003, 01:09 AM »
Yup, it's been announced (yesterday or the day before).

It's up at www.lucasarts.com

Also, one of the gamer mags has the first screenshots.  The game will include at least SOME kind of multiplayer, and it will be a Gamecube exclusive just as Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader was/is.

Visually it looks stunning in the few screens pictured so far, but I'll wait till I play it to critique gameplay.  There's actually 3rd person shooter levels judging by the screens (Even slicing open an AT-AT and blowing it up with a grenade).  I'm not sure how I'll like those mixed in with the flight gaming.

I hope the game has a decent story, more atmospheric missions, and that the game is as BIG as Rogue Leader (Or bigger) in flight combat, and that the 3rd person stuff is just a side thing between missions sometimes.

Rogue Leader didn't have much of a story though, and was too "Space" based...  2 aspects I missed from the original Rogue Squadron.

Should be cool though I do believe, so I'm looking forward to this immensely.
