Looks like someone... just -  got  -  served.

I finally broke down and picked this book up, thanks to a 40% off coupon from B&N (just $14.75 with tax ;D).

The boys are totally into the pop-up book thing at the moment, and they absolutely love this one (though it's hard to keep reminding them it's still a "no touch" book - they'd have their little paws all over it if they could).  They want to read it constantly and they roar out loud everytime the Rancor pops up.   :D

It's just crazy how detailed the pop-ups are and the light-up sabers in the Vader/Luke pop-ups are a very cool touch!

I see a lot of people blaming Target, but it was Hasbro that raised the prices...  they said so themselves in the Q&A in December.

We will be raising our pricing (and suggested price to $11.99 SRP) in 2008 in an effort to be able to provide some more articulation.

Target is just the first one to pull the trigger on the new price (probably since they have reset for 2008).  Expect to see the price go up everywhere else soon too...  :-\

30th Anniversary Collection / Re: 2008 Rumors and Speculation
« on: January 7, 2008, 10:20 AM »
I was under the impression that the Clone Wars stuff was going to be completely separate from the Star Wars Saga collection. Just like Saga Legends was separate from TAC in 2007. So there should be some movie-based waves coming out at the same time as the Clone Wars stuff. Perhaps I misread/misinterpreted some of the Q&A answers from a while back...

I thought the Clone Wars line was replacing the basic figure line, not running alongside it.  But that seems awfully soon to be moving into Clone Wars figures already since the show isn't due until the fall.

Clone Wars is replacing the Saga Legends line, not the main Saga basic figure line according to Hasbro (via a JediTempleArchives Q&A answer):

Right now, we do not have plans for a full third figure line consisting entirely of greatest hits/legends in the Fall..since this line will basically be replaced by the Clone Wars line.  However, we are planning on doing some select "greatest hits" in the main (Saga) line....

So, yeah - like Pete said you should still see movie stuff on the shelves next to the CW stuff.  I think they even confirmed a new RotJ wave for Fall 2008 (via the Yak Q&A), so it's not like the movie stuff dies after the cartoon comes out.  Cut back maybe, but not gone...

As for Wave 3 rumor, I'm not getting my hopes up.  Many figures on that list could be repacks, repaints, or kit-bashes, so I'm not getting too excited until we hear/see more...  it sure will suck when it's revealed that the Armor Obi-Wan and Ilum Padme are just carded releases of the old BP figures.   :-X

Kubricks / Re: MCC Darth Maul with Sith Speeder Box Set

I think BrentS will end up with his items through the lottery and wouldn't be surprised if both addy's win, especially if my theory about solicitation to determine production run size is correct.

I can see your solicitation theory working for stuff like the last box set (that had no limit number attached), but didn't they already say both of these items (Blue Star and Maul Bike Set) were limited to 2007 pieces?   :P

Personally, I believe Medicom when they say "limited to X" number.  Sure, they could produce more than the number and we'd never know, but I am inclined to believe them...  maybe it's all that "Japanese Honor" stuff from the movies.   ;)

I think if Hasbro weren't doing Mighty Muggs, which is basically a takeoff on Urban Vinyl, they would probably be doing something else.

I agree.  While 3.75" stuff is indeed the "bread and butter", Hasbro has always tried new things. Sometimes it works (Titanium Series, 7" Unleashed, Galactic Heroes, etc) and sometimes it doesn't (Choppers, Force Battlers, etc).

For me, the jury is still out for me on Mighty Muggs (they've only been out about a week after all).  Different strokes for different folks I guess... Personally, I hated the 7" Unleashed but a lot of folks loved them.  I don't see this as any different.   Some folks will love it, some will hate it.  Life will go on...

So, it looks like the Mygeeto set is mostly repacks/repaints unless Baracca turns out to be a kitbash. (can anyone tell from that pic?)

The Hoth set defintely looks like kit-bashed pilots to me with the PotF2 sculpt bikes.  Pretty much in line with what folks here were guessing.

Gah!  I will indeed be tracking down that SC version of Sinestro... I actually like it a bit more than the DCD version that is coming next fall:

The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Re: Clone Wars or The Force Unleashed?
« on: January 4, 2008, 11:24 AM »
It's not that hard for me to explain why I'd choose CW over TFU.

First, like Jay just said, the Clone Wars was mentioned in ANH.  It fills in gaps using pieces we already knew - Obi-Wan and Anakin fighting together.  Meanwhile, TFU fills in gaps using a character we've never heard of... lame.  I always liked the idea of Vader personally handing the Jedi their asses and hunting them down.  Using "secret apprentices" and "dark jedi" to do most of the dirty work turns Vader from bad-ass Jedi hunter to corporate Empire boss -

"Hello Secret Apprentice.  What's happening? Uh… we have sort of a problem here. Yeah, you apparently didn't put one of the new coversheets on your Jedi Kill reports."   ::)

Also, the Clone Wars cartoon is filled with established main characters (Anakin, Obi-Wan, Palps, Padme, the Droids, the Clones, the Jedi, etc).  Meanwhile, the TFU game only has Vader, a minor Jedi (Shaak), and a bunch of made up characters.

Add in the fact that CW will be an on-going thing with a developing storyline vs. the "one-and-done" story of TFU and it's easy for me to care more about CW than TFU.  ;)

Other Collectibles / Re: Medicom Vinyl Figures

I'm not sure it would be $225 awesome.  Plus shipping.  Ouch.

Sideshow is now taking pre-orders at $199.99 plus shipping.

It's cheaper than Blister.jp by about $25, plus the shipping should be cheaper than having it flown from Japan...

No.  3.75" figures are roughly 1/18 scale I believe.

I am really, really hoping to get my spending back below the $1500 per year mark this year.

I haven't been able to keep my spending that low since I started the Kubrick thing in late 2004 (damn 'brick addiction), but that won't stop me from trying to limit things (and failing miseably) in 2008.  ;)
