Oh all insults on both sides have been duly noted and recognized, rest assured.  It was a fun time really.

BTW I don't believe I've seen insults being thrown by either side so far...  At least, nobody's been worse than the other.  So I don't really see a need for one of us to step in...  I'll address the PM('s) I've gotten directly in a moment.

There is a level of civility here everyone should be proud of I think, it has been fun to watch.  It made for an interesting conversation...

At this point though I'm just assuming LJ isn't going to use proper punctuation, I'm sure nobody's going to give a **** tomorrow, so it's all a moot point.  Still, people got it off their chest that they don't look highly on people adding "style" via the "1+shift key" method.  Nothing wrong with getting your thoughts on that known but LJ's said why she does...  she posts legibly so that's a plus.

Chris didn't threaten to ban you for using your punctuation Lady Jaye, as I noted in my post (BTW Chris didn't even make the point, I did, so addressing Chris as threatening to ban you for your grammar seems a tad irrational when his name wasn't brought up).  The point I made though is that we do hold a higher standard of quality here...  We don't want the posts of our members to be so poorly structured that they don't make sense, that they add confusion to our boards...  Grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc., are what we are addressing so making light of how punctuation goes as "no big deal" around here isn't true...  I'm correcting that is all.

It isn't a HUGE deal, but it isn't something we take lightly either and have taken action on people in the past.  It wasn't for using excessive exclamation points, but it still is something we watch around here.  When there's a problem with excessive exclamation points we're certain a notice will be posted to limit them or cut it out and post properly.

"Style" isn't important here, but our members posting in a respectful and respectable manner is important though, and that's where we've taken action in the past when people felt that their spelling and grammar just weren't important because "it's just a toy forum".  It's also a place where you are still putting yourself out there in public and people form opinions on you based on how you present yourself.  This includes how you talk to others, how you present your additions to a conversation...  It's more important than people give it credit I believe, as like I said there is a greater focus on E-Communications as a legitimate contribution to knowledge, academia, etc.

This guy???  Yeah, that'd be funny!!!!!

Yeah Scott, sorry...  My post got bumped down but I should've quoted that for clarity.

And a point of note about improper use of punctuation...  I wouldn't say it's ALWAYS an issue where you can just say "So what?  It shouldn't bother anyone".  We've made it a point to tell people in the past to shape it up with their spelling and/or grammar or to take it to sites where it's NOT a big deal.  Not to say using two !!'s constantly is going to get our dander up with the staff here, but I'm just wanting it to be clearly stated that contrary to that belief, we do take spelling and grammar seriously here since it just is more mature...  We're not perfectionists though, but we have had to warn and I believe take action with a number of people in the past who just simply wouldn't conform to that standard...   It was generally excessive to the point that it was really just like reading gibberish though.

And it's not improper either as using "!" or "!!" (etc.) is...  It's not bad "netiquette" as I pointed out earlier.

Of course there's plenty of relaxed banter here, but I think what the Cos is saying is that "style" and routinely using an exclamation as your punctuation are two different things.  It's not wrong to put "..." at the end of a sentence if you're carrying on a thought or whatnot, whereas there's never a proper time to use two !'s, and even using 1 ! is a rare occurance in writing.  It is like yelling by typing in all capital letters emphasizes the post.

You can use it to emphasize a word, but some use it to emphasize an entire post, and it comes through as yelling...  Ending every sentence with "!!!" isn't too much different and I suppose it can be annoying to some, distracting to others, and I'm sure others will not look at it with much respect...  Does that matter?  Well, it depends who is being told I guess...  If it didn't, would we have this conversation with so many replies though?

I think people aren't saying it's a big deal so much as they're saying it shows a lack of posting class maybe...  I don't think there were names being called either, just honest opinions about the subject at hand...  For instance Bill Cosby didn't call anyone a buffoon, he just said that the !'s make LJ look like one...  I maybe missed the "fighting" though, I dunno, I've lost track honestly, but this wasn't anything bad to read through I thought.  Weird...  but not bad.

Hmmmm, no chaos I see.  We've (staff) been watching the shenanigans here, it's not out of hand though, just someone's made a comment on LJ's punctuation and she's replied...  Conversation on it ensued and is seemingly dying off.  Points were made, none will be heeded, and all is right with the world.

Not to do a pile-on but I actually have some experience with internet etiquette or "netiquette".  It's actually a real thing developed for academic debate/writing electronically since forums and other E-sources of discussion have become more and more in the spotlight and accepted as credible academic resources.

I know when I was in one of my basic college writing courses things like quoting an entire source instead of specific points was cited as bad netiquette.  Just like typing in all caps is for example.  Also, overuse of punctuation, especially the exclamation mark which is rarely to be used in a literal sense, is bad netiquette.  That's not to say it's annoying to anyone or everyone either, it's not "good form" though and diminishes the quality of the text in which it is written if used improperly.  I believe the proper use of the exclamation is a very rare occurance in most writing.  Such as "Wow!", or some such.

I've got similar weapons.  I have an almost completely translucent Stormie rifle Jason, and a Jawa gun.  They aren't repro's as far as I can tell either, showing none of the signs, so I'm guessing they're just a different mix on the plastic used in the production process.

« on: January 9, 2006, 08:01 PM »
1/9/06 and Stern's on...  God it's refreshing too, and was a great show.

Lots of technical difficulties which was to be expected.  They started the show early over their holiday break a couple times trying to work out kinks in "test runs" but it didn't fix everything...

The show was good though.  Very funny...  They have George "Mr. Sulu" Takei as their announcer and boy that guy's funny and jumped right into the fun himself.  Very amusing.

Commercials/breaks are infrequent, lots of great stuff...  I'm loving their revelations bit that they started over on boring old radio, and are continuing here.  Great stuff being revealed.  Anyone get a Sirius Radio for X-Mas?

I read that too Jeff...  Best case scenario is, to me, the packaging variant where the POP is special...  That's my opinion, and it still sucks becuase it'll annoy carded collectors as much as paint variants and other junk is going to annoy EVERY collector.  But that's why it's better too...  at least it won't annoy everyone.

This is just a huge collecting ass jam waiting to happen IMO, and I don't expect much positive to come of this.

That's new to me, but interesting Anton...

The way things roll over there though, it's kind of disturbing to do a trade even, and I've been reluctant to act on things I've seen.  I see their bad trader list has skyrocketed in just the last year.  Not much control that I can see.
