Famine: I am indeed working on the Plo Koon and the Ki Adi Mundi both. Plo's a little farther along, I just need to pick up one or two pieces to finish him before painting.

In Rem: You're too kind. It's funny, I was thinking of the blast shield bit while working on him: "Your eyes can decieve you, don't trust them." You know, while I don't have time to do a regular photonovel at this point like you and Chewie, maybe I could do a one or two chapter story about how he loses his sight. Interesting...

Jediknight760071: I also like the Samurai/Jedi connection. Makes me want to do a few Old Republic Jedi with more of a Samurai feel.

Phalanxx: Thanks! And for those counting, that's two votes for red blindfold, one vote against.  ;D

Hey Chewie!

Great photonovel update. I have to say, the Twi'lek girl is looking much better. Your paint job is so effective, I can't even tell which Twi'lek it was originally. The white Annika body blends really well in this shot.

My favorite shot is probably Bail getting his drink on. "Shay, Mon Mothma, Whattya shay we get out of theesh ruffly Shenatorial gownsh? Hic!"  ;)

I like the shot of Rykrof at the bottom...he looks pissed! I also like that his face isn't completely healed up, and Ralbaar's sly look. And is that a Freelo we haven't seen before?

The only thing I don't like is the two clones having EXACTLY the same dirt on their armor. I'd use whatever photo program you're using to mix it up a bit.

Can't wait to see where the story is going!

Phruby: I'll have to get a scan of the pic and post it so you can see the inspiration. I did indeed use Motocross Qui Gon's torso, as the shoulders match McCaig's drawing almost exactly.

Chewie: The blindfold comes from a GIJoe VvV Jynx figure. I was tempted to have Koth fight the excellent Trandoshan custom I recently received in the mail.  :P

Perennial: So, that's one vote in favor of me NOT painting the blindfold brown. Anyone else?

hemble: Thanks for the feedback. I only wish I was as good as you at doing flesh washes...I think Dooku would really "come to life" with a hemble-style paint job on the face and hands.

Darth Nirvana: Thanks! The Dooku head is from the ROTS version. I went with a darker skin tone at first but it didn't come out as I hoped, so I went back to basics. The lightsaber hilt has more to do with Dooku's fighting style than his allegiance... In OPEN SEASONS he has the curved blade while still serving the Jedi Order. I think it's the color of the crystal used that marks it a Sith lightsaber more than the style of hilt.

Anyway, on to my latest. The Art of ROTS has this great page of designs for the Clone Wars Jedi, and one of Ian McCaig's concepts features Eeth Koth as having been blinded during the Clone Wars, but still serving as a General to his troops. I liked the concept so much I based this custom off of it...it's close to McCaig's design, but I added the clone armor to keep in line with some of the other EU ideas we've seen.

I still need to add a wee bit of weathering, but right now I kind of like the clean version. I might also paint the cord around his eyes to make it look more like a leather strap. My only regret with this figure is that I failed to give him ball-jointed shoulders. I think that really would have added something. Still, I'm pretty happy with him.

Welcome professor,

These diroamas are unbelievable! I can't imagine having the creativity to do these. Well done, my friend!

My favorite shot was of Yoda lying on the floor with Palpatine above him...great camera work. But my favorite dio would have to be the Mustafar Control Room where the Seps get slaughtered. A little mood lighting and it would be perfect!

This is probably my favorite so far. The arrows are a great touch! I'm pretty sure the Ewoks would have left no meat on the bone, though.  :P

Thanks guys.

Chewie: Yeah, he turned out pretty sinister, didn't he? Something about the white and black tattoos really seems creepy. The funny thing is, I have a few more Sith Lords rattling around in my brain that I can't wait to work on...I just need to assemble the pieces and find the time.

Smartypants: The head is actually a dremeled out GI Joe VvV Barrel Roll head, hollowed out to fit on the Darth Maul ball joint. Good guess, though.

In Rem: I didn't do much to Dooku's eyes after this pic was taken...I just followed Chewie's suggestion and made the pupils a little bigger and the eyebrows a little thicker. I'll try to get a pic up soon. With Malus, I used a VERY fine brush and a magnifing glass. It didn't come out perfectly symetrical like I hoped...chalk that up to my unsteady hand...but I'm happy with the result. The picture also magnifies the flaws, as big as it is...the flaws on the figure itself are less noticeable.

Phruby: Believe it or not, I have yet to find a single Scorch in the wild myself. Mine have all come from trades with red5sixx. I'd love to find a few more of these...if I hit a windfall I'd hook a brother up. In the meantime, you might check your trade bait and see what red5sixx needs...if you've got something he's looking I know he'd trade.

Just like Tarkin to squeeze himself in on the photo op... >:(

Hey Chewie,

Thanks for the feedback. I see what you're saying about the eyes on Dooku, and have already made adjustments to his pupils and his eyebrows. And, you guessed the parts exactly.

As for Scorch, I think he's hot enough already. I'm having enough problems finding this figure, I can't imagine if he was any hotter!  ;D

Here's another I finished tonight...apprentice to Viscera, Darth Malus.

I patterned the face after some drawing or something I saw a long time ago and jotted a down a sketch of. It might have even been another custom, I can't remember...but I liked it so much I saved it for a really long time, and finally felt like completing it.

Wow! Thanks for all the feedback, everyone! It means a lot coming from each of you, because I think everyone of you brings something to this hobby that I admire.

Ripley: Darth Viscera sprang out of my desire to do a KOTOR era photonovel one day, and I wanted to do a Sith who wasn't a fallen Jedi, but had been raised since birth in the Sith teachings, and looked the part. I went with the name Viscera because it lends a certain brutal violence to his character, and somewhere in my mind I decided that his part of his mask is stitched with the dyed skin of his former master.

Gregorbian: With the RC's I used the knee joint from a clone trooper attached to the lower leg of Scorch, and then the ankles are articulated with the feet of the clone for added poseability.

Perennial: In Triple Zero, all of Omega Squad has adopted the black stealth armor.

Darth_Ennis: You can still get Sith Lord EVO sets from www.hasbrotoyshop.com for $19.99, three bucks cheaper than TRU price. Go for it!

aeseven: Honestly, I'm surprised you of all people didn't beat me to doing a Stealth Armor commando! I can't wait to see what you do with these guys once you get rolling. I agree that the gunmetal adds a little depth...once I finished the matte black, it needed something to add a little detail. Now if only I can make their visors look as good as the ones on your your Mandalorians!

BrentS: Some people don't like using Joe parts because they think they look out of place, and for the most part, I agree...but I'm always on the lookout for some fodder that will work, and the latest waves of Joes are very compatible, IMO.

Chewie: I hope Scorch becomes easier to find too...I really want to make a few squads, including some fan-fic ones.

Ruprect: Yes, black armor is very slimming, and a good summer look for your weight conscious clone.  ;)

Anyway, here's one I finished up today. If you guys haven't read DARK RENDEZVOUS, I think you should...it does a great job of expanding on Dooku and Yoda's relationship. Anyway, I wanted to do a younger version of Dooku before his fall, so here he is. The imageshack link is again provided because of my problems with photobucket.

I tried to model him a little after his look in Jango Fett: Open Seasons without being too literal. This is how I imagined ol' Scaramanga Dooku to look around the time of the battle of Naboo.

And here's a shot of Fi in his Stealth armor in a little natural light. I think it better shows off the battle damage.

Wow! What a great update, lots of cool stuff to look at! Let's get to it...

The 501st: Very well done! Aren't you the guy who was afraid of tackling these because you thought you couldn't paint a straight line?  :P These look awesome...great weathering the paint apps are fantastic. You really put Hasbro's efforts to shame here.

Mace Windu in Clone Armor: I like this a lot...I always like to see your "battlefield" versions of the Jedi, and this one looks really good. The arena head was a great choice...really gives him that "bad mamba jamba" quality. The parts fit well together...I wouldn't have thought Kit's body would be a good fit, but there it is.

Hagen Daas: Funny name, but wicked looking Jedi. This guy could kic some Sep butt, I imagine. Those 21st Century Heads work pretty well for pre-posed kind of Jedi...makes me glad Red5Sixx picked me up a bunch for $1 recently. If mine turn out half as well as this guy, I'll be content.

Jolan Karr: Good name, first of all. Second, although he's limited in his poseability, he'd look great in an arena diorama, or in the background of your photonovel. The weathering is probably my favorite part...the cloth looks scorched, as if he was a little closer than he'd like to be to some explosion or another. Nicely done.

Clones disguised as Jedi: Very cool. The parts choices are good, and I like that the middle clone looks a little darker than his brethren, as if he's been stationed on some desert world and was called back to Coruscant for the Jedi purge. Makes me excited to see how you handle the events of ROTS in the photonovel.

Aayla in clone armor: This one isn't my cup of tea. Just my opinion, but the clone armor seems incongruous with the exposure of her upper torso. The skirt, while a good idea, seems a bit out of character for her.

Mace Windu: Great use of the Sora Bulq body with the Windu Council legs. A more action oriented Mace, I think. This is probably my favorite mace you've done so far.

Gregorbian: I like Clones clean in some cases, and because I think it shows off your painting skills...but sometimes I like to dirty 'em up, and make them look like they've been in the field for awhile. I may do a "clean" version of Talon in the phase II armor at some point...but for this one, I wanted him gritty.

Darth Viscera is a EVO Palpatine, Darth Maul Cloak, GIJOE Cobra soldier head, and Cobra Commander Chest Armor. I'm pretty happy with how he turned out; when I first assembled him I was unsure if I liked him, but I think the paint scheme ended up bringing him together fairly well.

Here's another project I've been working on sice reading TRIPLE ZERO:

Both Delta1138 (Boss) and Fi here are still works in progress, but I thought you guys would get a kick out of seeing them early.  ;D

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: Don's Customs
« on: March 5, 2006, 09:53 PM »
Hey Don!

Welcome to Jedidefender! It's always good to have more people join us here, and the hobby of customizing in general. The fact that you're able to post from Iraq is pretty amazing... I'm glad you've joined us, and I thank you for your service.

You've made some really cool looking fan-fic aliens...I can easily see these guys motoring around Mos Eisley. My favorites would probably be the Pacithips, (Ketwol) but I think the little Weequay is really original. I think I'd name him "Scrappy."  :P

Heh heh...Kit'chn T'abel indeed.  :P

I really like the designs on these clones, particularly the Gree-esque commander. The camo looks great, and using the gun straps from the AT-RT driver is a really nice touch.

Hey Chewie,

Sorry to hear about your troubles. For $400.00 you could practically get a new hard drive!
