Vintage Kenner / Re: Wow - Vintage eBay Auctions
« on: July 14, 2013, 09:08 PM »
A bunch of Droids and Ewoks series 2 prototype coins are ending in a few hours. Was watching them all but ending way higher than I anticipated. Was hoping to get at least one but think its more than I want to spend. Here is just one of the auctions.

You took the words right out of my mouth bro. I was hoping I could hang too but it looks like they will all be out of reach. Sucks too, these are amazing pieces.

I imagine it's probably a bunch of dudes like Seth Green bidding on these because I don't see how your average collector can afford to shell out that kind of money. Then again, if you're not married, no kids, who knows I guess.

The Black Series 3.75" / Re: San Diego Comic Con 2013!

I agree about the vehicles and that's a shame. I find the constant resculpts tiresome, but there were still A LOT of cool designs they could have produced from the Clone Wars seres - the Mando fighters, the Z-95's, the Jedi T-6 Shuttle, etc. I would love to see some of these come out in the future.

Box office results from Thursday early shows came in good  > $3 million.  That points to a fairly successful weekend.  I think this is a film we sci-fi geeks should support.  Del Toro indicated he'd like this to become a franchise, and given the great reception this has received I'm gonna pony up my cash to help that happen.

Really? Had not heard that...a franchise would be truly excellent though. Sleeping on it has not diminished my enthusiasm one iota - that was one kick-ass movie.

It works fine as a standalone film to be sure, but he's created an interesting enough world that there is a lot more they could explore. Even a Hannibal Chau spin-off movie would be freaking sweet.

Really glad I bought the toys now too, those things are excellent.

The Black Series 6" Figures / Re: 6" Black Series - 2013 Wave 2

I foresee a lot of hanging Anakins and otherwise empty pegs.

Saw the new Darth Vader packaged Class II vehicles at my local TRU before going into work today. Left all three - it was the Anakin and Obi-Wan ROTS Jedi Starfighters and Jango Fett's Slave I - which I'm sure is just a repackage from the Yoda line.

I did not grab any of them, hoping that they'll show up at Target and I'll be able to get them cheaper...

I saw these at TRU yesterday too. Why would I pay all that money for a Slave I when I can walk next door to Target and buy one for $13.48?

Wasn't the Obi-Wan JSF part of the yoda packaged line too? I can't recall now.

"Saw PACIFIC RIM earlier today. It's all right if you're into movies that are awesome and gut-punch you with brilliance." - Patton Oswalt

Seconded! I just got back and have zero complaints. I was as geeked for this as any movie since "Watchmen" and it did not disappoint in any way.

Highly recommend the 3-D version too. It was amazing, second only to the Hobbit IMO as far as a truly immersive experience. Kind of hyped to see the 3-D IMAX version now. My head might explode.

Good actors, good plot, freaking off the chain effects, just the right balance of humor/drama/etc. If I had to find something negative to say the worst thing I could think of would be that maybe it drags a little in the middle between robot fight scenes. But I could watch two solid hours of giant robots fighting huge monsters so that's just me.  ;)

Good popcorn flick for sure, action packed, yet not totally mindless. It has its share of occasional corn, but there were definitely more than a few "**** yeah!" moments in there. All the robots were freaking awesome, and the creatures too, although they seemed less unique as the movie went on. All the stuff in the breach was waaay cool.

Just conceptually brilliant stuff, del Toro has really delivered a future classic here. Five badass stars from me!

That is one messed up looking movie. Strange departure for a Spike Lee joint.

Holy crap, Chris Pratt! You got ripped!

After watching this dude for years on Parks & Rec, I had no idea he had such potential for pompitude.

Truly, there is hope for us all.

I'm finally ready to jump into this discussion!

I saw it last weekend too, the day after I finished the book. Even before I went I was pretty much convinced there was no way it would live up to the book, which is understandable, as it is a very expansive story that would be difficult to commit to film. But I walked out wondering why the hell they even bothered in the first place.

They should have just called it 28 Days Later III because it had a hell of a lot more common with that series than pretty much anything in the book. Talk about throwing out the baby with the bath water!

I mean, aside from 1 character's name and brief snippets of the conversation in Israel, this movie was literally unrecognizable as far as its source material.

I don't mean this as a scathing review either. It wasn't all that bad of a movie on its own. I just don't see the point of Brad Pitt waging a bidding war with Leo DiCaprrio over the film rights to then turn around and throw EVERY good thing about that book out the window and create some contrived script that had NOTHING from the book left in it.

First of all, they ruined the zombies. I HATE fast zombies. More contrived Hollywood BS. They don't have to be hyperactive killing machines to be scary, guys!

Second of all, it would have been less of a reach to have simply cast Pitt as the guy collecting all the oral histories, recalling them after the fact. They didn't need all that clutter of a backstory. The rest of the plot was too limited by that.

Third of all, Battle of Yonkers, Chinese sub, Patient Zero, Lobos, etc - you couldn't even pick ONE of the most interesting stories and integrate it?

I like Brad Pitt generally speaking but man, he just effed this one all up I think. It would have worked much better as a 10-12 episode HBO mini-series, or even a full blown series.

It's one thing to adapt something and do it badly, but even worse to adapt something which bears no resemblance to the story it purports to be based on. Ugh.

Maybe Part II will get things back on track, but they've already diverged badly with that whole speedburner zombie motif.

I look forward to seeing their featured SDCC exclusive for the 3 3/4" line.  ::)

I think it's weird that Target clearanced the Class II ships but not these. Most of the ones I frequent have a LOT more Class I's to get rid of too.

ps - nobody is buying that crap at 30% off, Target. You gotta go 50-70% off if you want to move that garbage.

If it is those designs, they'll still probably be 5 POA  :'(

I'll take that even, as long as they make them thin enough to look believable when I swap out some animated heads.  ;D

I saw the new Aliens figures at TRU yesterday for the first time - Hicks, Hudson, Xenomorph, etc. They lookd pretty damn good. I think they were $17.99 though? Yikes.

Saw these at TRU yesterday for the first time and ended up picking up the lot. (Crimson Typhoon, Gipsy Danger, and Knifehead) They were only $15 a piece and I had a coupon for $5 off, so what the hell. I can always return them if buyer's remorse sets in, but so far I feel pretty damn good about the purchase. I don't think these will be sold many places and may disappear quickly. Plus I just think the movie looks all kinds of awesome.
