Star Wars Universe / Re: Star Wars on Blu-Ray

Some of that stuff looked amazing, esp the Wampa shots. Hell yeah.

But why do those cut scenes LOOK so bad? It's like they filmed them all through a dirty shotglass on the worst quality film they could find.

I don't see why they can't use all the amazing technology that gives Bruce Willis the appearance of hair in his movies to actually make these resemble something other than a 1970's public school filmstrip.

Does anyone know what time the Hasbro Slide Show presentation starts? I was thinking 11am but I can't recall if that is EST or PST time...

I actually took time off work to watch this. Yes, I am a huge nerd.

Yeah, the new scenes look incredible, the visuals in this show are just amazing.

I asked the question on the Blog Cast last night if this battle was supposed to replace the Tartakovsky continuity but I was of course ignored.

So several reports are popping up around the 'net of the new wave of BP's being spotted at Target for $19.99. The reports are somewhat light on details though, so it's uncertain which BP's are being found, whether it is the set of 4 or full set of 6. (The extra 2 being those crappy repacks, Zillo Beast and Droid Capture)

People also neglect to mention whether these BP's are being found AFTER Target has done their reset, BEFORE the reset, or in the midst of the reset. The whole reset thing seems to be the key to them putting the new toys out.

I stopped in a Target yesterday that was just starting their reset and they said it would take days to finish.  :(

If anyone spots these out and about, hopefully you can pass along the new DPCI. Thanks!

Yeah, and they stubbornly refuse to clearance their clearly stagnant exclusive battlepacks. (Hostage Crisis, etc)

Why are they still clinging to those things at full price?

Followed the live blog of the Clone Wars TV presentation that just wrapped. Not a whole lot of interest there.

Some tidbits for the upcoming season:

Boba and Bossk will be back, along with Dengar.

Confirmed "Captain Ackbar" will be making an appearance, along with some kind of shark-Separatist villain.

Talked about some 4 armed Jedi General, Krell (sp?) Adi Gallia will be back too.

Said Pre and the Death  Watch will be back, confirmed Katee's appearance, did not deny Lux would be a possible love interest for Ahsoka.  ::)

Also confirmed Nightsisters and Savage will be back, along with Asajj.

Filoni has written 8 different possible endings for Ahsoka, ultimate decision will come down from St George.

No new trailer shown.  :(

The same contract stipulation exists with Fox having the rights to the Fantastic Four. I know that they have to have another movie by a certain date or the rights revert back to Marvel on that franchise as well, which is why Fox has a FF reboot planned for 2013. (which I suppose allows them to retain the rights)

This is the best news I have heard all day. As a DIEHARD FF comic collector, I am more than ready to replace my memory of that dreadful franchise with something all new. I mean, I literally do not think they could possibly do any worse.

Replace all the actors, creative team, everything. And note to whoever takes that mess over:

1) Galactus is not a cloud
2) Alicia Masters is white

That dude working the Hasbro booth looks awfully nonchalant, he ought to be keeping one eye open for flying debris heading his way right about now.

"Pissed" is an understatement, I would be irate to get all the way out there and have them pull some weak crap like this.

Whether unintentional and the result of horrible planning, or intential and just plain manipulative and heartless, this stinks terribly. I really feel for the fans who are going to lose out on this.

They are really banking some love in advance of that Q&A period, should be entertaining.

Thanks, that makes some sense. It still seems odd for a company like Mattel that already has a large retail presence though.

And I really wasn't trying to sound critical, it's just honest curiosity. Most toy marketing is driven by the whole saturation paradigm - get as much product out to as wide an audience as possible to increase profits. These guys are obviously headed in a different direction, but if it works for them that is great.

I also find it fascinating that the new toys are so much more valuable compared to the vintage ones. It's the complete opposite of SW. I probably couldn't get $5 for my old Castle Greyskull on eBay right now.

This reminds me of the Euro Exclusive Clone Wars UBP they put out a few years back with Obi-Wan, Grievous and their respective starfighters. (The "Epic Encounter" set) Complete with window packaging. That was a bunch of repack swag too.

But yeah, I bought it...

I know the mantra is supposed to be "females don't sell", but what are the chances that Katee Sackhoff's Female Death Watch Commando does end up with a figure?  50/50?  Maybe better odds give she's a mando warrior and not an old librarian? :P

It sure puts their misogynistic brain trust in a bind. "She's a Mando" "But, she's a GIRL!" "But she's a MANDO GIRL!!" "AARGH, cannot compute!"

They'll probably end up doing it, a a non-removable helmeted version so you can't really tell she is female.  ::)

BTW, great casting idea...let's get Tahmoh Penikett on there too. You know Seth Green has his number!

I found it shocking and pathetic that Hasbro actually had the Target TCW 2-packs on display, the exact same two sets that are currently being clearanced around the country.

I don't see the point in showing off stuff that has been out for months, like the Endor Pilot sets and Kit Fisto's Jedi Starfighter.

I get that they move some stuff around and may hold stuff back until after the slideshow, but there has to have been something more current they could have thrown in there. I did not see the new B-Wing for example.

I see Walking Dead has a big presence at SDCC. Anyone know if the figures are on display? Or for sale? I am wondering which retail outlets will actually carry these when released this Fall...

Good, Hasbro would have found a way to screw it up anyway. That's one less thing to distract them from fixing the godforsaken SW line now.

Ok, I'll ask the Stupid Question as a clueless fan of the vintage stuff.

Why DON'T they sell these in stores? I would really love to hear the backstory behind this radically unorthodox sales approach.

I mean, there's a good chance I would buy all of these if I could just walk into TRU and pick them up off the shelf.

I've never understood that, their business model seems so counter-intuitive.
