Toy Reviews / Re: ARC-170 Fighter
« on: May 3, 2005, 11:31 PM »
Matt, good review...  Very thorough.

I agree on the ARC being pretty good for playability.  Lots of features, size, fun, fun, and more fun...  All 3 seats are a good thing too and working astromech sockets are always fun.

I'd disagree on scale...  It's pretty off from the film ships, especially if word on a 22m wingspan is true.  It'd be one hefty craft, which a $30 toy does not translate to generally.  The ship seems, on one hand, to be quite accurate but as more images of ARC's have shown up I'm leaning more towards it being substantially underscaled yet.

The cockpit features are great though, and I wish the Jedi fighters fit astro's as well as the ARC does.  I'm still trying to decipher if they fudged how that works and the toys are legitimately to-scale (IE: pinning the blame on Lucasfilm's designers not making a ship function in reality since they just animate it), or if Hasbro messed up the scale.  If that Jedi Fighter is on though, I'm buying up some extras for repaints I do believe.

I gotta disagree.

If hasbro has proven they CAN do it right, they should do it right...  Not to dredge up old debate, but case-in-point...  the Fleet Trooper.  His helmet's stuck to his head, yet it's a separate mold.  Make it removable and make people happy and keep a "standard" going...  That's one of many problems I find with that figure, but on the droid it's just a matter of using GOOD plastic on its legs.

E1 basic droids stood fine...  Then OOM-9 came and he toppled and our BD's have toppled ever since.  Why?  It's unnecessary, especially on a figure they've made their $$$ back on now 10 fold.

Stands are greaty, but if I already paid $5+ for a figure it should stand fine without stands...  I don't feel it's my obligation to invest even more in a job Hasbro should've done right the first time.  That's not very fair as I see it from the consumer standpoint.  Hopefully we'll see improved droids in the future, even if it's the same sculpt (fine by me), and preferably in a nice 3-pack to build a good army with.

Hell, my 3-pack break-away droid from the Clone Wars line stands better than any droid post E1.  Use THAT plastic even!

Sorry about your pets, Justin.

People often don't understand how much animals mean to people.  For most of my life, since I don't have children nor do I plan to have any, I've had pets, and each has been as important to me as if it were my own child.  I've had to defend them from other animals, people (I had a guy threaten my dog once, and needless to say he didn't think of doing it a 2nd time), take care of them when they're sick, play with them...  They've always got personality, they have distinct feelings and emotion like a person.

People often play down the importance of people over animals, but to me there are few people I'd ever consider as being more important to me than my pets, and at best they'd be equal, not of more or less importance.  Right now I have 3 cats and a dog, and I hope they all have long happy lives with me.

If you're good with woodworking, this is something that would be a good project.  My father just made a rack for some rifles of his and I'm pondering a rack for FX Sabers now myself.  Be a worthy investment if I'm nabbing more than one saber, which after this one I'm feeling an overwhelming urge to pick up at least different colored ones (A Vader maybe, a Jedi Luke, and a Mace)...

These are great though.  :)

Revenge of the Sith / Re: ROTS Recent Purchases
« on: May 3, 2005, 03:34 AM »
Sunday I found my 2nd Clone Pilot and Palpatine with the Red Saber.  I really gave that figure more credit than it deserved, it's another salt & pepper shake unfortunately.  I thought it was more than that, plus mine's got a nasty "lean" due to the lame-ass feature.

Anyway, saw another Clone Pilot rolling away in a buggy, guess I could've had an ARC-load, but I was a couple minutes too late.

Still never seen an AT-TE Gunner or Commander, much less the Neimodian, Wookiee, and SA Clone.  :(  Even #6 CLone's gone around here save for the rare one at the bottom of the bin at TRU.

Clones not on shelves in time for E3 premiere?  Retail (and Hasbro case assortment decision makers) should be ashamed.   ::)

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: ROTS Picture Thread

The music video up on SW.com is worth a DL too, as it does have some new footage.  It's mostly the shots from the E3 spectacular though, but it adds some new ones in there too.

I'd LOVE to find collector cases and Vader helmets on sale...  Hell I'd like to find EB sets on sale too, but I've wanted a Vader helmet/voice changer since those came out but I don't wanna shill out the $$ for it.   :-\

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Bonus Clone Troopers!
« on: May 2, 2005, 04:11 PM »
If everything came with a Bonus Clone, that'd be great.  With the molds tooled, the figure could easily get slipped into many different packages in future assortments, slight label change, and instant hit I think.

I'll be looking for these AT-RT's I know, especially since Kohl's often has sales.  They're like Penney's in many respects, and they ALWAYS have a sale going.  Unfortunately they're not all that common out here save for being near malls, so it'll be a trek towards a mall for me I guess to spot this.

I know I want more RT's though (crappy figure and all, the walker itself is fantastic I think), so if I get a Clone with it extra, more the better for me. :)

Revenge of the Sith / Re: I'm Not A Fan of Molded Sabers
« on: May 2, 2005, 03:41 PM »
The action features are so weak themselves though, the molded saber/hand combo's really werne't a necessity.  Just good hand sculpts to hold single-piece sabers I believe would've sufficed.  My Palpy's gonna need a hand transplant though because at the moment he has nothing going for him.

I'm hoping perhaps to find some spares from E2 Palpy maybe, or perhaps a Bespin Luke will donate.

nah, I figure I shouldn't have to put extra $$$ into stands when I have dozens of the Saga stands, commtech chips, freebie stands, etc...  plus I'm not a fan of large round stands either.  I prefer more squarish ones that sorta fit together more on a shelf setting.

Either way though, Hasbro needs to go back to the E1 droid plastic at least for these droid's legs.  They're attrocious.

Yeah...  That and then some.  The black 109, the 1.5 ton Dodge truck...

I've lost track of all the stuff people have found of late, but NOT finding the figures is killing me.  Everyone says they've found dozens, except for me.   :-\

Diddly, I agree with you wholeheartedly actually.  I love the upper body sculpts on the BD figures, and I think they're good for neutral and action poses.  They are passable at the least, and pretty good in that regard overall.

The legs are a killer though.  If the figure can't stand, it's no good to me, and the BD sadly cannot stand at all.  This ROTS one can't, my red ones from AOTC can't, and I'd say the worst of all are the cream colored ones from AOTC.  I tried putting them in my E1 Gungan scene up on a high shelf (so I don't have to look at it TOO often :P ), and they nosedive off that shelf constantly...  to the point I've made them "deads" on the field rather than tried to have them marching along with the E1 droids.

Hasbro could be using a sturdier plastic in the legs, at least.  It's really to the point it's sort of insulting that, even with stands, a figure can't stand.  A couple padme's are the same way too, which sucks.  Naboo Celebration's one of those culprits for me.   >:(

Revenge of the Sith / I'm Not A Fan of Molded Sabers
« on: May 2, 2005, 01:08 AM »
I gotta say...

I nabbed the Palpatine figure tonight in the red robes with the extra head/hands, and I'm really not liking these sabers molded into the hands and all that.

I understand single-piece saber/hilts rather than the removable blades and all that jazz...  I don't LIKE that, and I think the removable blades w/hilts were pretty cool, but this whole thing of Hasbro molding the saber TO the hand and making the hands removable sorta sucks.  I only say that about Palpy here because he doesn't have a "normal" right hand really.  Just the bony Evil hands.

I guess I think Hasbro can do better by making a saber (single-piece), and then just a hilt, rather than sabers stuck to hands.  If kids are gonna lose the whole saber, so be it...  I can bite on the issue of removable blades being fragile though...  But no saber sorta sucks.   :-\

Revenge of the Sith / Re: sneak preview Grievous
« on: May 2, 2005, 01:04 AM »
I'm gonna be locking merging this one up...

Maul, general Q's about "value" tend to go ignored (as this thread appears to have been for the most part), and you can easily ask this in a previously existing thread about Preview Greivous.  You don't need to start another thread for questions of value...

Locked Merged, and keep that in mind for future reference if you would please.
