Yeah, the camo on every planet's a bit much.  With skins being easier to create than ever, I think they could've tweaked things so that the appropriate camo was on the appropriate planet.  Give the rebels some kind of positive in their corner.

The Wookiee Arcade / Re: Star Wars Strategy Game Coming
« on: April 25, 2005, 05:33 PM »
I think it's not so much that the design of the TIE Crawler is bad, but that a design existed...  For EU's sake, use it and don't insist on creating that other "corridor" of vehicle in the EU just for the sake of wanting to make it your own...  To me that's the problem with EU as a whole, it's just an instance to point out in the game specifically...  The EU establishes something early, but yet others who work on a project within it insist on doing "their own thing" rather than working with what's previously established for some better cohesion.  Had I seen a WEG styled Crawler, I'd have been excited rather than thinking it's just another page/dispute in the EU as a whole...

As far as AT-AT's go, EU's claiming they were in the Clone Wars, just a slightly different design...  from what I recall anyway.  I know I saw them in some of the holo-report things in the FC mag, and some other things.  It's design is actually the final conceptual sketches of the AT-AT before the production look was finalized.  Very close to it, just slight differences...  more boxy.  Guess that's AT-AT1.0 and ESB one is AT-AT2.0 or whatever.

And the TE's been carried over then into the Classic era EU as still being in service in multiple roles...  Whatever.  Not that I wish anyone's imagination to be stimied at all, but Lucas sure does open that door and basically say "well, as long as you don't cross me personally, I don't care what you do...  pink bunnies and Fett back to life!  Let's make some $$$ guys!"  :)

Toy Reviews / Re: AT-RT Review
« on: April 25, 2005, 05:26 PM »
I'd concur with that mostly Matt...

The walking feature's not the BEST, and actually another toy line (educational toyline) does a better job of making things walk realistically, and more stablely, but the RT does pretty good.

I'd attribute the detail's lacking not so much to the sculpt, but more to the paint aps.  Give this thing a good paintjob (customizers, there's a task for ya!) and it's got some good detail.  Very accurate, but they just cheaped out in paint aps probably because of the mechanics of it...  still trying to keep it at $15 and all.  Compared to other vehicles in the same assortment, you see a definite decline in paint applications quality compared to the Boga thing or whatnot.

The figure is the worst part, agreed.  They could've done an SA-ish figure for this ala their #6 Clone, the Royal Guard or whatever, released it with the RT, and then just put it on a basic card down the road and it STILL would sell.  It's a clone design after all!  As it stands, it's a horrid figure with actually a rather lackluster sculpt it seemed.  Looked incredibly cheap and toyish compared to other figures in the basic figure line.

Anyway, not a bad $15 purchase, just gotta get extras to paint, and hope that Hasbro puts out a basic figure of the pilot that maybe can ride the thing and look a thousand times superior.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: "Evolutions" assortment...
« on: April 25, 2005, 05:18 PM »
With all things clone, my gripe here is the # of these that will be available...  I'm wanting multiple sets of the Clone Evolution set, which is absolutely fantastic.  I got to get a good look at the loose ones at the Hasbro booth with Jeff, and I was just floored by the quality.

The whole series is fantastic looking though...  VOTC quality all the way, detail and articulation galore, and now it's a matter of just making sure that MORE of the Clone sets are available than the others.  I'm loving the other two current sets, but that Clone/Stormie set is the epitome of perfection for figures.  Outstanding, and the pictures only TEASE with the quality these things are...  In person they just really make you wanna knock the case over and take them and run away!

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Evolution: Silver now Holo
« on: April 25, 2005, 05:15 PM »
I think I like HOlo better...  Though the quality is sketchy at best, as with the Emperor.  Part of me would like to take a GG bust and cast it in translucent materials to make my own giant Holo Emperor head. :)

I missed the Vader on the first day since I had a lot of work to do...  I missed a LOT on the first day actually, just in general.

Second day I vowed to get my Vader early so I went with my Volunteer badge to get it...  The Volunteer/Associate/Exhibitor (yes, the Exhibitors could use a SPECIAL line to get in early  ::) ) line was quicker than the regular line, but still I was one of the earlier people in line and had a 1.5 hour wait to get my Vaders...  The cards aren't even minty mint really.  I got one seemingly flawless one, while others were rough around the edges...  mostly curled corners.

The Vader thing was a fiasco at best.  The whole issue of lines was though, in retrospect.  They wouldn't open the "VIP" line till 9 when the Fanclub folks came in...  Why, I do not know, as they could've had that VIP line open immediately so people who were in that line could go in, get their stuff, and leave, leaving a whole other line open for people to get into.

The same could've been said for almost everything though...  I had to way Sunday to get into the LFL archives exhibit for no reason other than they weren't opening the exhibit till 9 again...  We stood for a while waiting till MORE people came in, to stand in line and wait...  They could've moved 100+ people through the LFL Archives before 9...  cut that line down some.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: More Target Exclusives?
« on: April 25, 2005, 05:06 PM »
I'm really kinda in a panic on this one.   :-\

Of course multiples of this would be great but I'm gonna be happy with one at this point I think, and just hope for a basic release of this scheme some day...

Anyone finds an extra (*cough*Matt*cough*) by all means I'll take one.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: What Hasbro really wants to do...
« on: April 25, 2005, 05:04 PM »
People waiting for clearances is a sign of actual demand though...  If they really wanted it for $x, they'd pay it.  If they don't, they wait, whether they find it or not.  I tend to see very little of people kicking themselves over NOT finding something on clearance, and more that if people wanted it badly enough they bought it while others either waited and got it or missed it because demand just wasn't as strong as it may seem to a handful of us.

I'd love a Death Star...  not sure I'd like the spherical one shown on Vic Wertz's panel myself, as it's sort of "different".  Reminded me more of an AF type of playset, but if they did something akin to a stackable playset...  Maybe one you could even connect multiple sets together side-by-side and atop one another, then to me that's great.  Sadly though, for those who want things like this, the big stuff doesn't have that strong a support in the general collecting community I think.  Not from what I see...  Stuff wouldn't go to clearance if people wanted it that bad.

G.I. Joe has two luxuries in its favor Star Wars doesn't.  They have had stronger sales #'s generally, and of course they're Hasbro's property to begin with.  Believe it or not, Joe has done very well, even with a slump last year+.  Star Wars has had some very bad times though...  two years of film toys that either did flat out poorly or didn't meet expectations, and then non-movie years that weren't a juggernaught of sales.

I think if ROTS really makes a big impression, larger items are more likely as there's new people involved in the hobby to drive it, but till then I think we'll be more apt to get a Cloud Car and Cantina endcap before an AT-TE...

I will say, if you got to see the Lucasfilm Archives exhibit (one of the more consistantly LONG lines in the event), the AT-TE they had on display is almost dead-on 1:18 scale, and so was the Millenium Falcon model.  OOOOoooo baby!  I took lotsa detail pictures for "future projects" hopefully.  ;D

I'm working towards 20 Clones #6 now.

Working on my wookies getting a nice army going too.  I want a few squads of wookie troops.

The exclusive Target Clone's got me worried.  I gotta make sure I'm up and at 'em for that.

The 3-pack (evolutions assortment) is fan-frickin-tastic guys.  We have good pictures, but that whole series is something to see in person to truly appreciate.  VOTC quality all over the place...  The Clone/Stormie set has me so worried though.  That's something I'd plunk a LOT of cash down on, but it's a matter of FINDING those sets.  :(

My VOTC Stormies are at 22 after a late purchase the other day at TRU then...  I'd love to have made it to 40 with those though.  That's about a landing craft or AT-AT's worth of troops.  Seems unlikely I'll get that # going though.

Other Toy Lines / Re: The Official 21st Century Toys Thread
« on: April 25, 2005, 12:10 AM »
For the curious, 21st Cent. Toys updated their "Area 21" section of their site with pictures of the Japanese 1:18 infantry figures.

They're sporting some new articulation in an attempt to rival (or outdo) the improved articulation with BBI.  Hasbro's still dominating by showing they can do the ultimate in 1:18 articulation, but BBI and 21st are making nice strides as they slug it out.

21st's adding shoulder ball/socket joints, etc...  Interesting.

Also of note, 1:18 figures ARE SHOWING UP at Wal-Marts across the country.  not just any 1:18 either, but actually Battle of the Bulge figures and Marines!  Can't beat that with a stick folks!  Look at WM for figures, and if they don't have them, complain and try and get them into your store.

Soon as I find a pile on pegs I'm putting in a lay-a-way order of the "army builder" generic riflemen and whatnot.  :)  I still dont' have those Marines in my collection sadly, so I hope I find some at WM soon.
