After looking closer, their articulation is IDENTICAL to the U.S. Paras...  Right down to the pivoting thigh joint.  The elbow hinge is even identical in design to 21st's style.

BTW Paul, I think I see pretty clear "gaps" at the hats for removable headgear too man!  REALLY nice sculpts.  Not the slightest bit cartoony or poor quality there.  The whole thing looks like authentic (100%, right down to the tin cup which is sweet) sculpts, tons of articulation...

If the horses suck I'll just be replacing them with better ones in the same scale *cough*PTE*cough*.

From my estimation (I borrowed them and lightened them up to see articulation and break points), I can see some really 21st Cent. Toys-ish articulation there.  Possibly as heavily done as the Paratroopers were.

I think the hats may come off...  it's possible.

I may shoot an email over to Dusty Trails too.  Absolutely infriggin'credible here.    Very realistic figures.  I'd be all over these for casting and for just collecting a set...  Customizing some too!

This could be huge.  I can't see a Cannon and Gatling without troops too.  I hope we see Indians, Cavalry, and more noteable characters from history.  The Doc Holiday's very close in likeness to Val Kilmer's character from Tombstone.

I'm sure as **** glad that Earp doesn't look like the Costner version...  not close to Tombstone's Kurt Russel really either.  Closer to that than Costner though.

Which reminds me...  I'd take some Dances with Wolves characters...  OH!  What about figures based on characters likenesses from Deadwood on HBO?  I could only imagine if they had voice chips that had lines from that show.  Good lord.

I'd put the OT ahead of LOTR...

The story's more my taste...  It's not got the seriousness the LOTR trilogy carries with it.  To that end, to me, it's a better story because it's more of an escape. 

LOTR is SO close to Star Wars in my mind though...  I really don't want to pick one over the other.  I consider them pretty much equal.  I rank the prequals below them in a tie with Indiana Jones (This is just out of trilogies I personally enjoy).

The thing then is what's in the movies that makes one better than another as far as effort, in my view.

To me, the Star Wars films were more "hard fought".  They did more for film in general than the LOTR trilogy did.  That's not to take away from the LOTR trilogy, but Lucasfilm's subsidiaries have transformed not just the film industry but entire ways in which films are even marketed.  LOTR was POSSIBLE because of the efforts Lucas's special effects teams have acheived.

As far as visual effects comparisons, I'd say the prequals are equal to LOTR actually.  Actually, LOTR's features CGI characters that took less work than in the prequals.  When broken down, the Gollum figure's so vastly LESS complex than, say, Yoda...  He's more on a level with a CGI Clone or battledroid in complexity of animation.

The battles turned out better for the story...  More "real" in look not because the animation in the prequals is bad, but it's not put together well from the coordination standpoint, if that makes sense.  In LOTR Helm's Deep, Minis Tirith, etc., are all really seamless battles that look logical and realistic. 

In the end though, from what goes into them and the level of quality they are, they're pretty equal series to me, so I give the edge to Star Wars only because it's advancing the industry overall.  LOTR's efforts were cool though, and equal to the prequals...  I'm sure ideas there are being adapted elsewhere too.

To me the classics set the bar for effects though and continuously have improved hollywood...  I don't think LOTR's spawning anything like that.

It's a great series though, it'll always be equal to STar Wars in my heart, and it surpassed IJ to me which I thought wouldn't happen.

As for the others...  Alien and BTTF would be under the prequals and IJ...  The rest I could care about.  Really I could care about Alien and BTTF too...

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy (McFarlane) if you asked me. He tried to rip off Neil Gaiman and Alan Moore, and lost. Sounds to me like Toddy should learn to keep his effing ego in check because he is getting spanked in the courts.

I'm torn here too.

Twist is/was a thug, a poor excuse for a player, and a blight on the game...  A McSorely without the ability for a BS goal every now and then either.  A greater bonehead, I can't think of.

That said, McFarlane's a total sopping wet pile of douche himself.  It's a real tough choice who to hate more.

This figure rounds out the Yavin Wave, and what a wave it was.  It's taken some time, but we're cleaing these out, and tonight's figure is the TIE Fighter Pilot from the Yavin Wave.



The TIE Pilot's one of those oddball figures that Hasbro threw at us out of nowhere.  I know I wasn't expecting a new one of this guy anyway.  

The weird thing is, Hasbro's updated TIE FIghter Pilot shows just how complacent I was with the POTF2 version.  I mean, I really thought the bendable knee pack-in pilot that came with the Interceptor, Bomber, and KB TIE Fighter, was a pretty nice figure...  Little did I realize that the helmet sculpt was really in need of an upgrade.

Still, Hasbro underwhelms us with the lop-sided articulation on yet another figure.  His right arm's nice, his left arm bites.  Why the unbalance?  Well, I still can't explain these kinds of enigmas coming from Hasbro, but I digress.
