Watto's Junk Yard / Re: The bad b-movie thread
« on: July 27, 2012, 09:15 AM »
One is like Sisperia or something like that...  The trailer looked insanely good but low budget.  The trailer alone was creepy for that one.  Saw the Trailer for The Beast Must Die, which for some reason the outfits in that film make me seriously feel sorta queasy.  Original Friday the 13th is in there.  Some bad Sci Fi flick that looked like a horror film on a space station or something.

Yep, Dario Argento's SUSPIRIA is an ALL-TIME horror classic. Do yourself a favor and seek this out on video, you won't be disappointed. It is a masterpiece.

I also recommend the entire Lucio Fulci catalog.  ;D

Thanks to some excellent websites like Toys You Had and Plaid Stallions, I am slowly piecing together memories of some of my favorite toys from childhood. It's crazy, some of these things are bringing back a flood of dormant memories. The nostalgia effect is powerful.

Case in point: the Ideal Star Team 70's stuff.

OMG, I was NUTS for that stuff when I was a kid, I loved my Star Hawk and Red Zeroid. Had completely forgotten about it all.

So of course, I am now compelled to buy ALL of this stuff again and savor the sweet satisfaction of reclaiming a piece of my childhood.

First score was a MISB Knight of Darkness figure, which absolutely rules. Worst Vader knock-off ever, but as a kid I didn't even know or care I'm sure. I can't wait to get this thing in the mail!

Oh for Pete's sake, it's not War and Peace for chrissake. Is he going to film every single page word for word or something?

TWO movies was a stretch, but three is just plain ridiculous.

I love this stuff, but I don't want to seem them artificially stretch it out just to make more money, which let's face it, is the only reason the studio is on board with this.

What's next, the eight film epic retelling of the Silmarillion?

Ah, I get it now. Tough call, seems like more of a personal choice on pulling them off the frame. They do self contain pretty nicely within the unit itself, so loss isn't too much of a risk. Then again, it seems like an untouched piece would be rarer and potentially more valuable. If the price isn't prohibitive I might suggest trying to pick them up loose just for that reason.

I really need to go back and start picking up some missing weapons and accessories myself. I still have a few gaps here and there...

Part of me wishes that they would put the Frank Miller version on the big screen, which to me is the ultimate Batman story, but then part of me hopes they won't because they would just screw it up by changing a lot of stuff. Nolan's version doesn't leave much breathing room for an even darker interpretation either.

My mon Bats don't shiv.

My "home" Target re-stocked with another case of TCW Wave 1...ugh. That's 12 figures that aren't going anywhere.

My "work" Target sold through most of the Wave 2 they put out, so I bought the rest up along with their remaining TVC figures. Fingers crossed, they come through with something good.

I'm currently looking at an auction for the Vehicle Maintenance Energizer - and the stickers on it are unapplied AND the eight tools are still on the plastic mold tree (they haven't been clipped off).

So my questions are:

1) Should I use the un-applied stickers from the 80s or should I scan them in and print them on a hi-res printer on a white label sheet and essentially "make my own" and leave the original sticker sheet un-used?

2) Should I leave the tools on the mold-tree and just try to acquire the loose tools from eBay? I have a couple tools from the one I had as a kid, so I don't think I'd have to buy all eight, but even if I did, I see those tools come up for auction a lot so it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

Any help/advice you guys could give would be much appreciated.

I would DEFINITELY advise against trying to use the un-applied stickers from the 80's. Just leave them on the sticker sheet. I made this mistake when I bought my Endor Forest Ranger and have regretted it ever since. The stickers just don't adhere like back in the day. Pretty much ALL of mine just fell off within a day or two. They went on fine, but did not last. For some reason if you actually applied the stickers back in the day, they hold much better then if you tried to do it now. Go figure.

I'm not sure I understand your second question but I'm sure someone else here will. Good luck on the vintage hunting, it's a fun way to distract yourself from all the hasbro fail! :)

Aren't ALL their waves de facto online exclusives now anyway? Who can find anything in actual stores?

Oh crap!!!

I am 100% in as soon as I read the fine print. I've never done anything like this before but I am a nut for the Watchmen toys. I wonder how these will compare to the previous line of 6" figures.

Hope they branch out and do some weird stuff, would love a Bubastis.

Thanks for the info!

I don't understand why you would go to all the trouble of rigging your apartment with sophisticated explosive devices, and then TELL the cops about it after you get arrested. What was the point in the first place? He only wanted it to explode for robbers?

Sick, sad world.

Totally agree, it's asinine. "Buy this thing you don't want or we won't make the thing you do want!"

Just make the GOOD thing first, and it will sell, and then use up your crappy ideas on future releases.

And I don't need people on websites telling me what I should support or not.

Old school comic guy here with no knowledge whatsoever of who the new bad guy is:

Why does he look NOTHING like the character on the cover of the graphic novel? That thing on the cover is so ripped it would have to be CGI in a movie.

Is there some backstory there or could they just not find anyone that huge who could actually act?

Wow, I have that figure upstairs in my attic, just a random part of my collection, the only carded, modern non-TCW figure I have actually...been meaning to list that on eBay. I wonder what the chances are I have the rare version? (not likely...)
