Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Torchwood?
« on: June 30, 2009, 07:52 AM »
Torchwood is back with a five part mini-series for this year. I guess we will finally be losing Captain Jack at the end of the show to make the show more family friendly for next year. I guess not a bad move as long as the stories don't suffer. The story is about Gwen anyway. Maybe Martha will show up? Its starts July 20th on BBC America. I believe it will be shown a little sooner in England. I also hear the Easter Doctor Who special willl be shown around then too on BBC America.

A completely stupid idea to lose Jack...I would disagree that the show is about Gwen, if they ditch Jack it will be since she will be the only original cast member left besides Ianto.  Making it more family friendly will lose its entire audience.  It was never meant to be family friendly.  That is what the Sarah Jane Adventures are for.

I just got back. I dunno, it was definitely the worst Terminator film yet. But it did have some cool stuff too, I'd give it a solid B.

POTENTIAL SPOILERS BELOW!

-I think they tried way too hard to throw in nods and references to the other films. Sometimes it worked ("I'll be back") and other times it was just plain stupid (I think the Arnold 'cameo' looked horrible).

-I didn't like Christian Bale as John Connor. I agree that he still sounds too much like Batman, and it really didn't look like he gave a **** through the whole movie, so that was disappointing.

-The Marcus character was cool, but I saw the heart transplant thing coming from a mile away.

-That actor who plays Kyle Reese (and Chekov in Star Trek) is great, but I think he was really underused in this movie.

-The battle stuff at the beginning kinda sucked, but the battle at Skynet at the end of the film was awesome!

-Here's my only question: So is the cancer lady that was talking to Marcus at the end a T-1000? I didn't really understand her role.

END SPOILERS

Overall I liked it for what it was, but it just didn't really feel right. Meh.

I believe the cancer lady was what she appeared to be...someone linked to the science organization working on using human parts to help people with terminal diseases...her company either purchased or was bought out by Cyberdyne.  Her appearance as Skynet, was just a way for Marcus's human half to identify with Skynet...I don't think it was the intention for her to be Skynet or a T-1000.

Wow, with that rant on the webpage quoted a few posts back.  Is he mad that this movie wasn't set like what we saw in T-1?  He has to remember that the events of T-2 and T-3 erased that future.

Overall, I didn't have a problem with the movie.  This movie was never going to be a favorite of the critics, but I don't think it should be trashed like it has been.  Ultimately, this movie was a set up for a 2nd and 3rd movie in a new trilogy and I think it did a good job of doing that.

Still not buying that schedule...SYTYCD as part of the fall lineup?  It has never been anything but the bastard step brother of American Idol that they play in the summer.  13 hours of Dollhouse, but on both schedules?  Glee, which premiered this week and has not ratings data in both fall and spring?

I would say the Terminator cancellation was inevitable as Judgement Day.  They may be kicking themselves if the new movie does really well.

I guess we can kiss Fringe goodbye now.  In yet another brilliant move, FOX is putting it up against ratings juggernaut CSI.  Look for Fringe to go on hiatus, end up on Friday and then be cancelled at this time next year.

Funny how 24 hours can change a person...I would have liked to see the interrogation while Janice was handcuffed to the wall.  I am guessing the last 15 minutes or so was set up so that they could have killed off Jack if there wasn't going to be an eighth season.

That seems like a seudo schedule...SYTYCD is strickly a summer show, as well as Glee.  I doubt they would pick up Glee for the fall without even seeing how it does during a summer run.  Of course the dancing will be replaced with American Idol...I guess Lie to Me goes on hiatus when 24 returns.

Cool Season Finale.  Interested to see what happens next season.

I think it put to rest the "where could it go after this season" speculation.

The 1st to hit the bay.

SDCC 2009 Star Wars 12" Luke Han Stormtrooper

Good god! Let's bump the price up from $229.90 to $279.90.  ::)

SDCC 2009 Star Wars 12" Luke Han Stormtrooper Sideshow

Like I said earlier, I didn't see how they were going to make much money assuming the price was around $200.  $10 less at the con, but there is tax.  Having it shipped for non attendees will probably be around $10.  After ebay and paypal fees, $230 is just not much of a price to make a profit.  However, why someone would waste their time trying to win this auction and not trying to buy it direct from SS is beyond me.

Good luck on the hunt for General Madine.

Vintage Tri-Logo General Madine AFA 60
:o :o :o is Brian's toys doing collectors a favor or hurting the hobby

I've said for a long time that they are really nothing more than a big scalper ring.  While vintage prices are always what the market bears, just look at what they have done with the modern line through the years pricewise...especially exclusives.

People can argue all they want about them being a business and making a profit, but when a company like New Force Comics, which appears to be a much smaller business, can sell cases for a much cheaper price, you have to wonder just how much profit someone like Brian's Toys is making.  It seems half the vintage auctions are very high priced items from Brian's Toys.

24 may have jumped the shark. My wife and I discussed not watching it anymore.

I'm upset with last night's episode. Here we were having a good season and the writers go and put Kim in another damsel in distress situation like every other season she's been in. I thought for once her role would be the dutiful daughter who turns around and tells Dad that she's going to save his life for once. But, no. She's been held 'captive' to persuade Jack to help the terrorists. Ugh! Now I only hope she is finally killed off so that there is no way this can happen again.

I don't think that will happen...I have heard they are already casting an older version of her daughter for next season.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Star Trek

I grew up watching TOS in reruns after I would get home from school.  I still prefer TOS to TNG because I felt the stories were more compelling, while you can argue the acting and effects were cheesey.  The first couple seasons of TNG to me felt like more style than substance.

The only complaint about the new movie that I have was that the digital projector went down to a lightning strike during the young Spock scenes and we had to get shuffled off to a regular theater...I can't wait for the Blu Ray.

I would say this is probably one of the best uses of time travel in a movie.  What a way to shake things up in the Star Trek universe...it accomplishes both having a tie to the original series and a reboot of the series overall.

I liked the look of the ships interiors, especially the engine rooms.  More reminescent of a submarine with all the close packed piping and everything...not the totally clean and sterile look of TNG era.

I thought all the core characters were great, and I even enjoyed the over the top accents of both Chekov and Scotty.  I had been keeping away from spoilers so the Spock/Uhura relationship was a shock.  I do like it though.  It will interesting to see Spock take a completely different journey that we have seen before.  It took the character quite some time to embrace his human half, but this Spock seemed to do so with his decision not to enter the Vulcan science academy.

I like all the one liners from TOS and even the nod to Pike with him in the wheelchair at the end.

I think if you look at a list of cancelled shows on Fox, you will see that they either started or were shifted to Fridays.  Without American Idol, Fox probably wouldn't crack the top 10.  Fox has very little patience with any show that isn't a blockbuster for them.

That's not always true.  King of the Hill was never a big hit, and they kept it around forever.  They've given a long run to American Dad despite ratings well below Family Guy.  This year Fringe took quite a while to get established, but they stuck with it.  Now it's the top new series of the year.

Of course I'll always be pissed at them for canceling John Doe...

I fully expected Fringe to get cancelled just because of the type of show that it is.  If you look at the Fox cancelled list, a lot of the shows are sci-fi/fantasy type shows.  I'm surprised the Lone Gunmen wasn't on the list...I thought it would have ended up on Fridays at some point.

I will laugh if SS decides to put say a $225 price point on this set.

The only difference with Bones and House (besides ratings numbers maybe) is that Fox didn't move those shows to the dead zone of Friday nights...that is where they put any show they want to kill off for low ratings.  Boston Public, Dark Angel, Prison Break among many others have been moved to Fridays and then promptly cancelled.
