The Last Jedi / Re: TLJ 3.75" Figure 2-Packs
« on: September 1, 2017, 07:12 PM »
I just opened the Han/Boba 2-pack and while I don't normally care for non-canon ridiculous large accessories, I think the flamethrower back-pack that comes with the set to add to Boba is FANTASTIC. It has the ability to have Fett's regular back-pack and rifle click into the larger back-pack piece, the flames are nice and Boba's stance is well balanced and he stands with no problem wearing the backpack, the extra gear clipped on and his arms sticking straight out with the flames coming out of the gauntlets.

The Han is "meh" - but this backpack and fun new presentation of Boba made the two pack totally worth it for me.

I want to hear reports from the following people:

Jeff
Jesse
Jayson
Pete

I know you guys did some damage out there today!  ;D

Yeah - I did.  ;D

I went to Target and picked up:

2x Kylo's TIE Silencer
1x Ski Speeder
1x A-Wing
1x Police Speeder (only cause I only found 1)
1x Rathtar
1x Probe Droid
2x Rey, Finn, Poe, Kylo Ren, FO Stormtrooper, Chewie, Luke
1x Hux, Rose, Paige, C-3PO
3x Rey / Praetorian Guard 2-pack
2x Han / Boba 2-pack
1x Force Link Starter Kit (the regular one with Kylo Ren)
1x BB-8 Playset w/Snoke & Praetorian Guard
1x Black Series Titanium Kylo Ren
1x Black Series Titanium Finn

I still need an opener of the Police Speeder. I probably want one, if not two more Rathtars (two because there were three in the movie). Over on the A-Wing thread tmanthegreat had a great suggestion to put Paige in the A-Wing and I agree - so I'm probably going to pick up another Paige opener, throw her in the cockpit so I can have Tallie on display. And then at some point, I'm going to score an opener of that BB-8 playset. Oddly, the place where I found the Titanium Series Finn and Kylo ren ONLY had those two figures - no Rey or Phasma, so I still need those two.

Today, I stacked the Target coupon, I parked at one of the self check-out lanes and just kept ringing up orders of $100 each. Got three of them for $75 in gift cards and then I used that to bring the playset down from $200 to $125. I just kept scanning the coupon I had on my phone. Later when I was home, I noticed that the coupon number of the one I got in the paper, plus each of the ones I got to both my Android and iPhone were all the same - so the coupon is not a unique single-use entity. You are just limited that you can only use it once per transaction (so no using the $100 one twice on a $200 purchase) and you can't use the coupon again when you are using gift cards as part of your payment.

I'll have to go back and look, but it's not as much as the TFA damage, but I *think* it's on-par with the Rogue One damage - maybe only slightly less.

On the Lego side, definitely less as I'm pacing myself this year cause I want to squeeze in the new Millennium Falcon at some point, so I only picked up online the two mid-priced sets - the Resistance Bomber and Kylo Ren's TIE - this was so I would get two of the Scarif Trooper Minifigure that they're giving away with orders over $50.

Oh - and I pre-ordered 3 of that Princess/General Leia TLJ figure from the Disney Store. It's also over on Hasbro Toy shop, but I'm pretty sure if I purchase stuff from the Disney Store using my Chase Disney Visa Card, there's a discount applied to the purchase on my bill and HTS was limiting you to only 2 per order.

Up next will probably be the Target 8-Pack of repackaged figures - just one for the MIP/MIB/MOC collection. They didn't have any at my local Target but they looked it up and showed that they had a case of them coming in on Monday.

There's also the other exclusives - the TRU Poe X-Wing w/Booster Module, TRU Force Link Starter Kit with Praetorian Guard and First Order Executioner, the Target ROTJ Force Link 3-pack, the four 3.75" Black Series figures at WalMart and the WalMart TIE Fighter...

Not so great experience myself - went to a Walmart that basically had one case each of Orange and Teal figures. There were two other guys who had been there sooner than me, thankfully one guy wanted only Chewie and the other guy wanted one each of all the female figures for his daughter and a Luke - so I was able to score a set of 11 figures there. I picked up a Rathtar, Ski Speeder and a Force Link Starter Kit.

Ran over to the Toys R Us after that and was able to grab an A-Wing and a non-mint Probe Droid.

Went to another WalMart only to find 6" figures (which I don't collect) and there was plenty of those for Wave 1 and remnants from a Teal wave - so I grabbed Hux, C3PO, Rose and Paige to open.

My last resorts are the Walmart and Target nearest to my house - the WalMart closed at midnight so my hope is that they didn't put anything out before that and the Target wasn't on the midnight opening list - so I have my fingers crossed that I'll be able to get the remaining vehicles and "creatures" sets I need. My goal is to try to purchase enough stuff at Target so I can get three of those $25 gift cards and drop the price on a BB-8 playset to $125, so I'll probably take a gamble on the vehicles at Target and only focus on figures at the WalMart.

Apparently there's a different set that include Praetorian Guard and executioner stormtrooper.

Exclusive to Toys R Us.

Rogue One / Re: Retail Prices/Sales/Discounts

On Friday I saw just about the weirdest thing I have ever seen in SW collecting. I hit a 5Below for some cheap 3-packs and only found a couple of Pao sets. I decided to pick one up anyway and while standing in line to check out I noticed a guy 2-3 people ahead of me with a shopping basket FILLED with all the "good" 2-packs. He must have had 12-14 easily. Nothing else in the cart either. He obviously came just for those, and even knew enough to bypass the less attractive Pao set.

Considering the 2-packs that came out in the Rogue One range, what do you consider the "good" 2-packs? The ones with Baze and Moroff?

Just curious.

The Thor: Ragnarok sets hit stores on the 1st so I picked up the Ultimate Battle for Asgard set - will probably pick up the Arena set in a week or two once I've had a chance to build all of the sets I have waiting to be built...

I randomly checked just now after updating the app and as of 10:05 CST BB-8 is available.

I got mine via the app last week. When they arrived however, the packaging job was piss poor - so not one of them didn't arrive with a curved/warped cardback. I had to resort to the "press the card flat with a stack of books" method to get one of the two I ordered back into acceptable MOC shape.

I saw it last night and for me, it's easily tied with the 2004 SM2 movie - which I have long felt was the best Spider-man movie released so far.

Very cool to see Marvel Studios work in the Vulture so well, especially considering if rumors are true - it was Sam Raimi's desire to have Vulture as the main villain of a Tobey McGuire Spider-man 4 - and apparently Sony execs didn't like the villain choice and where Raimi was going so that was a major factor in Sony deciding it was time to reboot the franchise.

Wanted a 2nd case worth of this wave so I ordered another case from EE about two months ago. Just got a notification from EE that they wouldn't be able to fulfill my order.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: X-Men/Wolverine Movies
« on: June 15, 2017, 01:44 AM »

And you have folks saying Logan isn't actually part of the previous X-Men continuity....which is saying that Force Awakens really isn't a sequel to the original trilogy. SO WHY SHOULD WE GIVE A DAMN ABOUT THE MOVIE OR THE CHARACTERS? The whole thing depends a lot on the audience's previous connections to Logan and Xavier.

That isn't a fair comparison based on Days of Future Past.  TFA is most definitely a sequel, just set 30 years later than ROTJ instead of picking up a short time after.  Logan takes place later in the timeline than the "future" we see in Days of Future Past, but I don't think it goes into detail if it is the altered future which erased the events of X-Men 3 or if it is a different timeline.

I thought Logan was a great movie. But at the end of the day, it needs to exist in a timeline where the events of X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Wolverine all exist.

I know it wasn't in the final cut of the movie, but in a deleted scene, set during the dinner at the farmhouse, there is a mention made of Jean Grey and that Logan loved her and he had to kill her.

This means that, as originally scripted, Logan does NOT fit with the more hopeful ending of X-Men: Days of Future Past, because that movie negated X-Men: The Last Stand.

So I think the first three X-Men movies and the three Wolverine movies all go hand-in-hand. It's almost like they exist in a movies timeline where the X-Men: First Class movies never happened. Once you introduce those movies though, it starts to negate

A lot of people didn't like the inclusion of the Weapon-X scene in X-Men: Apocalypse because if didn't fit with the fact that in X-Men: Days of Future Past, the last time we saw 1975 Logan, he was getting rescued by Raven/Mystique, so how did he end up with Stryker in the Weapon-X program?

I theorize that X-Men: Apocalypse further splinters the timeline because of that Weapon-X scene and sets everything from Apocalypse forward on a timeline totally unconnected from the "happy" ending from Days of Future Past. This way the creators of all future X-Men movies, especially those with the McAvoy/Fassbender cast, can totally ignore all of the previously released movies with the Stewart/McKellan cast and branch off in a totally new/fresh direction.

Evil BB-8?

And with that, I now know why I get a knowing smirk from the Disney Parks Merchandising team when I asked them after their SWCO panel if they were going to be doing anything else with that new Build-a-Droid BB-8 sculpt. While I still believe we will get a Holo BB-8 one day, I have no doubt that around the holidays this year there will be a BAD version of this black BB unit.

Picked up one of the Spiderman: Homecoming sets at my local Walmart today - 76082: ATM Heist Battle

Does anyone know when the Thor: Ragnarok sets are supposed to come out? The book for this set shows the two Spiderman sets and the two Thor sets - wonder if the Thor sets are coming out soon as well...

Walked into WalMart this afternoon to find the Rathtar Escape set priced at $70 (MSRP is $80) - not sure how/why, but I didn't question it and picked it up, so scratch that one off the list. I think that leaves me with the Republic Fighter Tank, Jedi Starfighter w/Hyperspace Ring, the two Freemaker Adventure sets and the two constraction sets.
