Nah, that's pretty good JayDouble, thanks for sharing...

It's a broader shot so it's nice.  Doesn't improve some of the figures though!  :)  I like the Preview Wookiee repaint though.  He's better than I hoped for.  I'd have liked that even if it was just a straight repaint of the figure.

This is HUGE news.

If you guys know SS's 12" figures, they're fantastic.  They compete with the likes of BBI, and the infamous Dragon figures.  So 12" Star Wars figures in that vein will be fantastic.  They'll even make the Marmit figures look weak I think...  More like model kits than figures.

They had a great World War I line I think...  And a Civil War line.  Outstanding sculpts and realism.

This almost makes me wanna get back into 12" but I'd still dump the majority of my Hasbro stuff.  Taking on a new (old) scale though...  Ugh.  :-\

Happy birthday Paul...  If there's a guy around here that deserves some good gifts, it's you.  Hopefully you get some stuff you need or army builders!

Wow Paul...  I didn't realize you needed surgery...  Dude, I hope you're doing ok.

Hmmm, as the king of lazy I'll try to give some suggestions:

-Currently I'm reading the Empire series in Trade Paperback form.  They're good, and the Volume 3 with the Amanin would appeal to you I think...  Good Military story ala Rourke's Drift.

That ought to take 30 minutes of your time up. :)  I got through Volume 1 in a breeze while waiting at the hospital today myself.

-On X-Box, if you haven't played Full Spectrum Warrior I suggest it.  I nabbed it for $20 at Wal-Mart earlier in the week.  I'd beaten it on a rental, but I like it...  It gets me in the military mood to customize and stuff.

-I agree with Brad on Bounty Hunter if you have a Gamecube.  It's a great game and would take you some time.  Fantastic story.

-X-Wing Novels are good...  Not all are great, but some are.  Not sure if you've read the Zahn Trilogy but it's worth a run through if you haven't.

And of course I hope to catch you here!

Take it easy bud, don't stress yourself...  And enjoy the downtime.  Get a bell to annoy your wife with.   :-X

The Preview Wookiee is great I think...  Not sure whyt he hostility there.  The figure was hot the first time around...  I would think he'd be more popular once again.

The other Wookiee...  That I agree with, but based on how bad the figure is.  He lacks a bit in poseability and has an awkward look.  He's been dismal at retail then.

And I still like the Neimodian, but I can't help but agree that he's a bad choice.  I think he's based on the Holo-Transmission art...  Maybe.

He has a nice rifle...  right?  Anyone?

I think I can partly explain the swamp speeder, though whether it's a good explanation as to why we don't have the vehicle is up to anyone's judgment, but...

Scaling up and down is possible, but mold toolings are required either way, not to mention that most 3.75" vehicles aren't a one or two piece item but rather are comprised of many individual pieces.  The Titanium Series Swamp hicky is probably rather simple...  2, maybe 3 pieces.  A 3.75" is going to be more pieces, thus more molds.

The second reason, it'd be bigger than the $15 pricepoint I'd think...  You start getting into the issue of "will this sell even if we make it" as you start raising in the price point area.  They can take risks with smaller vehicles, but as price increases so does the potential cost in a failure at retail.

A scaled up one though would inevitably be more complex than the TS one...  Those are pretty simple (even the details are lacking really.  I've looked them over closely and compared to similar stuff out there they're mediocre at best), but a 3.75" vehicle isn't going to be as simple overall.

The scaling up process is weird too.  I don't think it's as simple as people think...  Not that the sculpting process of an item is the costliest either, so I think that's a non-issue even really, but I think when things are scaled up they're really just resculpted.  I've heard of machines capable of scaling up a small detail, like a headsculpt (I've heard of this done between 1:18 and 1:6 headsculpts), but that's a simple, single piece being "scaled up" (or down).  I dunno that, for instance, a whole figure could be scaled up in one swoop...  It'd have to be done piece-by-piece.  If my understanding of the process is right...  I know that's one way to do things though.

Indeed, that may be worth a pre-order.

Well...  Uhm...  Hmmm

Droids I'd be into I think...  Metallic stuff in general.  Dunnoa bout the others, and HOLY **** on the price.   :-\

Gentle Giant / Re: Bust Ups!
« on: July 13, 2005, 10:59 PM »
I keep an eye peeled on Bust-Ups for customizing possibilities...  Their heads are GENERALLY a slightly larger size than Hasbro's sculpts, which is good, and that Hoth Luke hat is looking damn spiffy for removable hats on Hoth Troopers for the first time. :)

I'm always amazed how sloppy some of Hasbro's likenesses are in comparison to the mini-busts.  A shame really.

I don't think Clone Evo #1 will sit. :)

Anakin and the Sith one though...  If they ship too many, I could see it.  I think the Sith one's the one to be wary of the most though.

I'm all for the repaints/variants myself, but I agree with Jeff wholeheartedly that how scarce these are could be the kind of thing that kills a line.  Not single-handedly of course, but you're bordering on "Chase" ****, which we all know has not helped a lot of the major lines where that concept reared its ugly head.

17667
Am I thinking of quitting?

No, not really, but like others, I'm not a carded completist...  I'm not even a loose completist for the line overall.  I pass on many ships anymore, as well as Deluxe figures I find to be a disappointment.

And being that I open everything too, it makes these repacks generally easier on me.  Ironically though I found myself wanting a lot of the stuff from the OTC, like the Jawas, Gam Guard, Sandpeople...  It was nice.

I'm less impressed with the repacks being tossed around right now though.  For instance, the Hoth set is an abysmal failure.  The figures are poor, not just in sculpt, but in articulation.  They're cheap at Toy Shows if you really want a Snowtrooper army.  I got AT-AT Commander figures for cheap out of AT-AT's I bought for cheap...  I'm not impressed.

I'd go a step further than you did Brent, and even say the set would blow even if packed with ONLY the Saga Hoth Trooper.  I think that figure blows too, so short of new figures (insert sarcastic laugh here), the set isn't a winner in my eyes.  Maybe someone's, but not mine.

I like rehashes of good stuff...  I like the #6 Clone (I'd prefer #41), so seeing it doesn't bug me.  I like the Preview Wookiee...  Some rehashes are good.  I like astromech repaints, especially of that spiffy Preview droid.  I'm the only one, but I like the Neimodian too.  Weird, I know.

But, there's a lotta piss-poor re-releases that are going to make a lot of people either A) quit entirely, or B) change their collecting habits dramatically.  Can't blame anyone there.

The Evolutions stuff, that doesn't bug me in the slightest...  So long as it's easy to find.

I see your points in that Hasbro is making it REALLY hard to stay with them and support this line at times though Brent, but even moreso for you being north of the border, but also for lots of different "types" of collectors.

On another minority note here though, I like the black suited Clone Pilots.  I'm an EU (and fan-fiction) fan though.  And like the Neimodian, I can't say in good faith that it was a good idea considering how many pilots I see on my trips out.  He's dwindled, but still is a pegwarmer.

Saga Collection '06 / Re: The Future of Star Wars Collecting
« on: July 13, 2005, 10:37 PM »
Eh, you're giving a nice outlook to things though Spuffy, there's nothing wrong with that unless someone's easily upset when they're basically underwhelmed by Hasbro.

I like to think it's a lull before a storm of goodness too Spuffy.  I'm sad at the same time though because the re-releases aren't necessarilly bad ideas all the time (just what Hasbro SEEMS to be re-releasing are bad ideas).  The battlepacks and stuff are neat ideas with potential, but things like that may get trumped by poor sales of the early sets...  Like the TRU 4-packs.  Not bad ideas, and they even started out strong, but they wound up being failures by the end of the run.

I'm more disappointed that the SDCC was so looked forward to but has really been kinda "meh", at least at the start.

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Wedge!
« on: July 13, 2005, 10:32 PM »
I actually laughed when I read about that Wedge figure on our front page.

I'm not gonna get my hopes up for a new figure...  Even one cobbled out of newer parts.  I'll just work on the assumption that's it, and you're paying for the spiffy cards he has.

That's funny though...  Just seeing that thing POTENTIALLY make it back to retail is funny.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: ROTS - #57 and beyond

I dunno how to feel really...

Hasbro tends to woo people with their words...  Everything they say is the truth, everything they claim is gold.  On one hand I blame the company (obviously) for cutting corners on a line that seemed to be riding a pretty big high...  On the other hand I breeze through forums here and there and the way people act like Hasbro can do no wrong just had me thinking that this was about to bite us in the ass.  It did.

I'm not displeased with everything either...  I personally think the Clones look great.  I don't mind the antenna on the SA Clone (makes for some neat Com specialists in a squad, though I will admit that most of my SA's don't sport the accessory).  The Clone figures overall make me happy, and I'm a fan of the #6 Clone for what he is, though I do see his shortcomings (He's just a notch below the #41 sculpt in my view).

Passel Argente and Shu Mai are cop-outs on the company's part to deliver aliens from ROTS without working for the $6.  So are holographic Jedi figures.  They, like astromechs, are welcome variants down the line, but space them out ya know?  Who wants 2 astromech droids at once?  Space that **** out.  You have time.

Plus, obviously, it's still "cheap".  There's nothing new about those figures...  And cheap's ok sometimes, but like I said, space that **** out...  Try to NOT look like completely tight-assed bastards all at once.

Then there's the Wookiee's, the Grievous Guard, and the Neimodian...  I'll say I'm actually pleased to buy the Neimodians and the Wookiee, but given the Neimodian's current standing at retail, I can't say he was a good choice and have people take anything I say seriously.

The Preview Wookiee's are gone in my area, even when other Preview figs still linger.  So I don't think he's a bad figure to repaint and throw out there.  It's like the #41 Clone...  Quality is selling the toy.  The 2nd Wookiee though, he sucked, and he sits because he sucked.  It seems even casual fans can see that the figure was poor quality (I think it's that same reason that the Neimodian sells poorly, coupled with his relative obscurity).

I've kind of been on a downward spiral since seeing confirmation that the last of the 56 were not the best looking figures.  Bacara started the trend, then I see that Antilles is almost identical to Organa but features about half the poseability, the Zett Jukassa figure looks ok but again isn't terribly poseable...  Quality was heading downward compared to that first blitz of figures, but at least they were new figures.

These last 12 aren't all flops, by a long shot.  I'll buy lots of certain figures, especially the Clones, but the fact that they are 100% reused stuff is pretty bad.  I'm not real enthused with the end of the ROTS line I guess.  It's just not inspiring...  Things aren't making anyone go "Wow!" even if they are good.

The Classic stuff though...  Man, Hasbro is just giving people the finger with that ****.  Just terrible selection there, at least at the moment.  Bad ideas when they were new, regurgitated for our enjoyment.

I know a lot hate the Neimodian Gunner, but short of knee articulation and a nice gun, I actually have enjoyed the guy.  He's almost an EU figure though given his obscurity in his scenes.  He's a good army builder if you're into the holo-news stories and comics and such that the Neimodian soldiers wound up in.  Someone's gotta fight to defend their home planet.  He's definitely not appealing to the masses though it seems.

I dig his helmet.   :-\  He's a good sculpt too...  *sigh*  Yeah, I know you guys aren't buying extras no matter what I say.
