Joe Defender / Re: G.I. Joe Toys Thread
« on: June 23, 2005, 10:55 AM »
I didn't realize you were a Joe fan Paul...

Is their con this weekend?

It's funny how a toy line, not even tied to a film or anything, has its own yearly con, haha.  :)

That Winter Ops set is terrible...  Had they done something where they took like Snowjob's body and put a Snake Eyes, Duke, Flint, etc. head on it, painted it in the classic cartoon style (and packed in just a white Snowjob figure), then that would've been a real Snow Ops set.  Try to pattern it after the cartoon, ya know?

The Imperial Procession is weird too...  I like the Baroness, and CC is ok looking...  The throne's lame though, as are the guard figures, and the accessories...  Just strange.

An Oktober Guard set would do well I think if you could get them all in one 6-pack...  I think another Cobra Trooper set (and a Snowserpent set) would go over well if done right also.

Joe is a tempting line at times, especially with all the retro stuff.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: ROTS Recent Purchases
« on: June 23, 2005, 09:55 AM »
Deluxe are a big pain to find here...  I want Spider Droids, Crab Droids, and Vader w/Table (I'd like to find one or two of the variants as well) and I'll be damned if any of those sit at all.

Id' kinda dig the Clone color variants (and sell off the whites I get) but those of course don't sit.  The sets tend to not interest me too much though so they're not as important to me...  Those droids and Vader though I'd really REALLY like to find.   :-\

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Happy for the "Slow Down"?
« on: June 23, 2005, 09:53 AM »
spaced things out with ROTS...  Skipping lots of Collection 1 (It's sold surprisingly well but still everythign is obtainable for retail or less if you look), and waiting on lots of things in general helped me out by simply spacing out my spending...  I did that and it's worked well for me.

I've managed to pick up things here and there...  I just got Bail the other day, for instance, and that's been a help...  I've spaced out some of my army building too with what actually "sits" like Clone Pilots, Wookiee Warriors (Preview one, however it's sold better since the movie hit so I missed out some on it), and the Neimodian...  The Jedi I spaced out as well but now I have them all.

Sales paid off then when prices DID drop a little after 4/2...  The slowdown was ok, but I was buying all along, just not buying lots at any one time.

Now though I'm behind...  I am way behind on Deluxe figures which I don't like to be behind on...  I want that Vader w/Table SO bad but never find it.  Never seen a Crab Droid.  Vulture Droids aren't common at all...  It's a rough situation there.  Another slowdown may be nice to help me get caught up.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: ROTS Pegwarmers?
« on: June 23, 2005, 09:48 AM »
That's something I think is a rarity in my area...  At least if it happens it's a really minimal thing that goes under the radar (at least my radar).

Our stores are pretty bare...  They could all use some restocking.  The AskAak wave was in ok abundance the other day at a local WM but those pegs were still pretty bare even with a restock...

And I'm still amazed that the AT-RT continues to sell out.  I mean, that thing just won't sit still.  It's a great vehicle, crap figure, but just damn popular.  Gotta love that.

30th Anniversary Collection / Re: How big is your army?
« on: June 23, 2005, 09:44 AM »
I have about 29 Clones as of my count the other night...  A meager army compared to some, but thanks to Paul Mundheim I've done a lot better than I would've on my own.  I've still yet to see an AT-TE Gunner in stores but Paul got me two...

I like it but it's not a figure I want a ton of due to the articulation and pose.  I'll deal with #6 and #41's just fine.

I picked up a lay-away the other day of 9 Clones (mostly 41's) and man I just love how these Clones look all together.  Fantastic little line-up.  Not gonna quit anytime soon I think, but then again the sheer lack of figures (Clones that is) makes it easy to pace myself I guess.

Paul's the only one who makes me feel like I'm overspending!  hah, thanks man! :)

Revenge of the Sith / Re: "Evolutions" assortment...
« on: June 23, 2005, 09:41 AM »
Given how low my opinion of TRU keeps going, I wouldn't be surprised.  They seem to really just not be in touch with anything about the toy industry and it's shift towards adult collectors/appeal.

I have a pre-order for the Clone set on Amazon (hah, we'll see if I ever get it) as a "just in case I can't find these in abundance" dealie.  I'm really hoping these ship en masse to retail though because I've probably NOT looked forward to anything this much except MAYBE the VOTC figures (their price makes them less appealing than these Evolutions sets though, obviously).

The way Hasbro's gone since last year, I've been pretty pleased with the company.  VOTC was a big hit, and the Evolutions assortment is just such a spiffy little series.  I'm hoping this continues ina  BIG way.  This is a primo means to get a lotta POTF2 stuff resculpted to fit in with the line as it stands today.  Hasbro's come a long way in a span of about 2 years.  They spun their wheels for a majority of the time but I applaud efforts like these sets.  They're really quite amazing compared to other toy lines on the market.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: 500th commemorative figure... Vader?
« on: June 23, 2005, 09:36 AM »
I'm passing on this one...if it was a two piece helmet or a full meditation chamber...then I'd bite.  But with the superior Evolutions Vader, I can live without this one methinks unless I get one in trade or JD gives one away, then I'd take it :P

I'm torn, but I have the same beef with it that you do Scott.  Had it been the full chamber I KNOW I'd be very interested in the piece, but Hasbro cheaped out and made it a less than stellar figure.  And I agree also that the Evo figure is superior anyway...  So I'm contemplating why I would bother with this.  It looks nice packaged, but I'm not much of a packaged guy...  I dunno.

I may get it just to leave boxed (like the 25th sets), but I'm still very disappointed in the execution of it.  All it needed to be was the complete meditation chamber for me to change my opinion on it though...  I could stand a "lesser" figure if we got a nice item to display OUT of the box.

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: Not All Clones Are Made Alike?
« on: June 23, 2005, 08:07 AM »
The mix of faces in that scene was noticed by some the night the movie premiered...  I looked in subsequent viewings and to me I'm just telling myself they're Jango Clones at various states.  I have a very linear view of things right now though that I'm comfortable with.

I view it as the Clone Wars are just Jango Clones...  Jango's are phased out then for recruits and by the time ANH rolls around there's no Clones in existance despite any EU to the contrary...  My opinion may change to include some Clone Divisions (Not sentients mixed with Clones though, id on't like that concept), or divisions commanded by sentients in ranks only as low as non-com officers (Sergeants) or higher while Clones serve as the "Troopers" that take the orders.

Right now I'm sticking with there being no Clones in the classic era though, as per the Thrawn Trilogy where Cloning is actually the Imperial's Plan B incase the populace turns on them.  To me though, the end of ROTS left me with the impression that the majority WANTED the Empire, even many aliens, and thoughts to the contrary were "unpatriotic".  I rather liked that aspect of the film that gave me that impression.

It leaves that 20 or so year gap for the Empire to establish itself, and for those lines to be drawn where some people/species are starting to get the shaft because they cling to the ideals the Republic had that they liked...  They maybe even supported the Empire's Creation at first, but the vast majority still support the EMpire and these people who are having their toes stepped on are (in galactic terms) a minority.  It's a subtle thing that shows up in privatized business being infringed upon, or military conscription becoming rampant...  It's good for many but some disagree.

And some people are just won over because the Empire does all the things it promises and maybe more, while the Republic didn't deliver.  The Neimodians, for instance, get some punishment under the Empire and Naboo applauds the effort and sides with the Empire...  At some point the Empire becomes bad to them for whatever reason (thus their celebration sequence), but at another time (I dn't view the ROTJ celebrations as being really sequential...  Just my POV).

Sorry for the side rant, just was thinking out loud some about how I'm hashing out the period of the Clone Wars and its transition to the Empire of the classic trilogy...  Something about me just loves the idea that the Empire is a loved system by the galactic majority, whether it's "good" or not to us who have the privalege of knwoing EVERYTHING about the story.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Battle Packs (5 figure sets)
« on: June 23, 2005, 07:53 AM »
I really am wondering what the final Anakin and Obi-Wan figures are going to be like.

It's the only set I'm really interested in...  I want an extra Assajj figure for customizing (only ever saw her one time), and I'm a fan of the realistic styled Clone Wars figures as I feel the toon figures just are a separate line to the basic line...  Not my cup of tea then.  Grievous I could've done without as with Yoda, but whatever.  I guess that'll make a nice replacement to the Wheelbike figure when I pick that up, and Yoda will just be something to toss into my fodder pile.

17965
Don't thank me, this is Chris and Brad, maybe some others...  They'll be handling anything that comes about.

17966
Seems like minds are changed...  I'll not be doing the work but I guess someone's going to be putting together a more customizing focused feature for you CHEWIE so congrats.  The photonovels may be remedied at some point as well, so I'm sure someone will be in touch with you.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Land of the Dead
« on: June 22, 2005, 04:57 AM »
Todd mentioned an $80 pricetag...  As much as I'd liked to have gone, that's 2 lawn tickets to concerts (plus some extra $), and that sorta stings.  Rather than going to the premiere though I'd dig going to the afterparty just for fun...

Surprised he just picked a club down in the city though...  Seemed odd, but whatever.  I wonder if Deja Vu's just off-limits that night or what?  Have a good time Bob...

"Stuff" isn't just the title of the magazine, it's the urge you get when you're done looking at the pictures...

With customizing, it's one of the few areas I view as "the more the merrier" with posting...  I think cross-traffic with the niche isn't terrible, however I share your opinions of Rebelscum's customizing forums.  They're not my favorites and after my impromptu banning at Rebelscum (and my impromptu reinstatement, neither with really much of any reason given for WHY), I can't say that I MISS Rebelscum at all...

It is a lot of "wow", with little more.

But, JediDefender's pretty established that we're not going to have a Customizing focus.  I only highlight customs that I think have a broad appeal to the collecting hobby as a whole, and JD's not looking to build a customizing focus (that's not to say we're not EXTREMELY proud of our customizing community.  To me it's a solid group filled with experienced customizers, novices, and experts, and all who share information...  I'm impressed with it).

I think Customizing focuses are best left to the experts though, and that is www.FFURG.com.  The idea's sound, but it's basically the Critique of the Week concept that FFURG has run in the past.  I think it's a good idea, and that FFURG is the vessel that can carry the idea.  That's not to say we'll never change our mind, but right now we're focused on bringing news about collecting to the broader audience.  I love customizing but I have to admit it's a niche within a bigger beast.

If minds are changed on this, we'll certainly let you know right here.

Yeah, having VOTC Vader I can't say that he was hot on my list, but having seen the figure at C3 with its removable helmet, then I'm inclined to be just as excited about that figure as well.

I'm pretty happy with these sets from top to bottom.  They're just damn nice.
