Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Short?
« on: January 31, 2006, 06:34 PM »
I'd say he's a hair short, but it's barely noticeable really...  Stand him with a Stormtrooper though and there is a difference...  It all depends what you're comparing him with though.  Stormie's and Han match up well yet Lando (who's about Han's height) is shorter than Han but matches up well with Fett...  It's slight differences, but people like me who notice scale tend to notice these things right away. :)

I'm of the opinion it's not a huge enough deal for me to be a detractor of the figure's quality...  for what that is worth.

On many levels, and the creeping up of his raging red bush is not the least of them...

Silliness from elsewhere:
Quote
It would've been nice if Sora could fit in with the other Jedi articulation wise but it's no huge loss is it? Sure it sucks but all he does is stand around.

I read this and just had to scratch my head...  It's not a huge loss huh?  Interesting way of looking at a Jedi that now severely lacks in the poseability department, especially when we reflect on the absolutely incredible line-up of Jedi we got in 2005...  I for one am disappointed.  And with Sora Bulq apparantly having ball/socket ankles, I'm that much more disappointed to know he has no knee articulation...

But, the kicker in the quote is that apparantly I missed the part of AOTC where the Jedi just stood there and took it up the ass from the Battledroids in the arena...  How can anyone say that the Jedi "just stood there" in the movie, so the knee joints just aren't important now?  If you don't care, you don't care, but when you rationalize it by making a statement so blatantly ass backwards, I just have to scratch my head how anyone would take this person seriously when they type anything out on a forum...  Yet this guy's "god" and we gotta deal with it I hear.   ::)

Indeed Jess, the more I look at this the more I want to order...  I wish I had the $$$ to get into this series, much less the space.  These look really nice packaged and loose even to a guy like me that opens damn near everything.

He's a cool one to me...  Get a treadwell too, that's nice.  I thought he was, for all intents and purposes, as good as the AT-AT Driver overall.  Not a new sculpt totally, but good nonetheless, great Hoth filler, and the fact you get Treadwell (albeit again), made it a lot better in my eyes.  That's value for the price to me...

To me, the gonk sets an example of maximizing what you get for what you pay...  You get the retooled droid, which looks fantastic, plus you get its little attachments to make it unique and even perhaps worth buying twice...  Plus you get the Treadwell which could have been painted something different but that's minor.

The AT-AT Driver sorta fits this bill to me too...  You obviously don't get as much extra stuff but you get a good overall figure...  Unfortunately I don't think all the figures in the wave maximized their utility, so to speak.

I'm gonna go with yes and say it's Wedge being Rogue 2 as per Luke's spot on the Rogues...

Or someone who's into giving or receiving the dreaded Wedgie...  What the 2 could signify then, that's anyone's guess.

This thread is destined for greatness.

I'll unfortunately contribute nothing and steal lots.  I can't cook worth a damn and am spoiled in that everyone cooks for me or I dine out.

I may learn from you Yoda's of the kitchen though.

The Gonk, in my estimation, is the hottest of the wave too....  I think his partially new status and as Jeff said his being 1 to a case, both have a lot to do with this.  I have yet to get one though I've now seen Hoth wave in abundance a couple times.  Saw lots of R2 and Vader even, but no Gonk...  :(

Hasbro hopefully plans to get some of this stuff out there in better numbers for a while longer because I gotta find Fetts for the kiddies and I'll be damned if I ever saw him.  Carkoon Wave's still showing though so I'm hopeful.

Saga Collection '06 / Re: 2006 American International Toy Fair
« on: January 30, 2006, 04:10 AM »
That's been a steadily growing trend Jay, really...  Since I started really focusing my business study on the toy industry years ago, at the start of things like tech really infringing on the Toy Industry's turf, it really is showing a shift in the point where kids "grow out" of things like traditional toys.

Boys are easier to string along though...  In my own experiences with kids outside my immediate family's, I've noticed that tech doesn't take hold of boys as much...  Or as totally perhaps I should say.  They can revert to toys like Legos, or action figures, or role-play items like sabers and whatnot.  They still want video games at the end of the day and I think that will continue as long as VG's exist, but at the same time boys (perhaps because of their inheritly slower maturity rates) cling to more traditional toys more than girls.

The girls market is really hit hard, and despite Mattel's efforts to sugarcoat losses in girl's markets they've dominated for decades, they really have a much more narrow window to work with.  It's really quite interesting stuff as it sort of follows America's society as a whole...  It's also interesting to see how despite supposedly "maturing" faster, kids are generally less responsible today, and in part due to tech being such a focus in their lives.  It's fun to read up on if you're as boring as I am. :)

One of the fun things about toys though is that they actually gain a foothold in older, more adult demographics as this tech boom's encroached on the industry, and the adults have the disposeable income...  Toys of ALL types are being geared at these people with lots of $$$ to spend, like all these throwback sportscars coming out from the big 3, high-end electronics, and now traditional toys for adults trying to recapture childhood...  I wonder where Hasbro views these trends and things though?  :)  They say a lot, but I'm sure being a fly on the wall of internal discussions there would be interesting beyond what a lot of people may think.

Saga Collection '06 / Re: What Makes a Good Figure?
« on: January 30, 2006, 03:57 AM »
And height I guess...  Grievous has been a figure I've seen a lot say isn't tall enough.  I'm not totally sure on that but if everyone's saying it I tend to believe it must be true...  Till I can look and compare for myself anyway. :)

18191
I could too and for $20 that's a set worth having a number of I think...  Count me in because those figs on the GS box looked so sweet.  That...  That would be a bit too ideal, but now I'm hoping it is true.

Hasbro + LFL = Nothing Logical.

That's an equation where one will let you down one way, the other will let you down a total other way, and both try to lay the blame for their working relationship not always working on each other.  It's sad.

And I reiterate Scott's feelings...  This line is just silly.  I don't get it...  Droids I'd get, but Fett and Vader I don't...  They're expensive, they're dull, they're not even accurate looking so you don't even have that as like a "premium" figure or something...

Metal is cool, don't get me wrong...  I have 1:18 tanks cast in metal, and they kick much ass, but THEY'RE TANKS.  They should be metal...  Vader and Fett just seem silly to me.

LIke Scott said though, 3PO I'd buy...  R2 I'd buy...  I'd actually like to see clearances on them so I could buy a few to paint up as something else.  But these figures just seem meh.

The only plus to Fett I see is his gun appears more accurate than anything Hasbro's done, so it'd be nice to own that to outfit your favorite Fett figure with something slightly better than a steaming turd.

Not bad at all for army builders.

I wish I'd have found good deals but alas not a lot was left in Pittsburgh.  However a local is saying one WM in a seedier part of town has Separation of the Twins figures for $3 each...  Nice, however too far for me to get there and find out, heh.

I found Jedi Fighters for a good price so I should be happy, I just didn't find the big things I REALLY wanted like a Target TIE, the Battlepack that had Assajj/Anakin in it (forget the name) so I could get some fodder out of the set, or the Coruscant Clone set...  Nor did I find any Target exclusives like the Shadow Trooper.  Our area was pretty dry on those again clearance time came.  ONly a few had anything and most were deeper in the city where I usually am not able to get to (not without a LOT of hastle).  :(

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: all vintage figs into VOTC?? :)
« on: January 30, 2006, 03:42 AM »
There's been some speculation that perhaps they're going for the whole line...  And I don't know that I'd mind that myself.  Part of me wonders though, if they're all $10, how they do a $10 Jawa, ya know?  I mean, ouch...

At the same time, I'd welcome it for the most part...  To know there'd be ultimate versions of most every character, especially mains, in their main outfits.  That'd be pretty sweet.  I'm concerned about non-vintage figures getting that treatment though like Tarkin or The Rebel Fleet Trooper...

I'd welcome a Death Squad Commander with open arms though.  It's sorely needed.

I think it's possible they're going for this...  I don't know how likely though.  But definitely within the realm of possibility.  Hasbro's so weird...  They'd not say if they were doing this I'm sure, but I think anything is possible with them, no doubt.  And with Greedo on tap, that really implies that obscurity's not an issue...

What would happen when they got into things like FX-7 though?  Would anyone want another one?  I like the one we got...  Or Ugnaughts...  Jawas...  Hammerhead...  There's certain things a lot of people would really balk at paying $10 for I think.  R5-D4 for instance, who's getting his update finally.  Who'd want a $10 one then?
