Saga '02-'04 / Re: How are you feeling?
« on: August 13, 2003, 06:32 PM »
Unless Lucas has some plan for TV (cartoons, live action, etc.) after EP3, things will wind down pretty fast I think.  I also believe Jesse has it right, that Hasbro extended the license as a defensive measure more than anything else.  SW I think is reaching a point somewhat (though not as bad) as Star Trek, where a break from the franchise may actually help in the long run.  I'm not saying it's there yet, but after EP3, a nice little break may be just what SW needs to get people excited the way they were back in '95 when things started up again.

As far as the toys go, it's clear there's a core base that will eat up these toys no matter if there's films or not.  Because of that, I think it's very possible the toys will continue one way or another for a very long time.  Unless we have situations like we do now where Wal Mart simply won't carry a broad line of SW stuff with nothing to support it.  We'll see.

I'm glad these are coming so soon but I don't even have the first ones yet!  I have them on order from Newforce, but nothing so far.  I'm really looking forward to both of these.  Great stuff.

Around here at least (Iowa) it varies.  Some army builders are extremely popular (POTJ Scout Trooper being the most memorable) while others like the bearded Endor Soldier or the Destroyer Droid or the POTJ Bespin Guard were less so.  This year core characters don't last on pegs, unless its Jango Fett, and even the repack KE version out now seems to be moving too.

I don't have the Battle Amidala (never ever saw her anywhere) or the Eopie.  Beyond that there's not much I'm looking for, besides 2003 stuff of course, which seems as rare.

Clone Wars '03-'05 / Re: ANIMATED cartoon CW figures coming?

I actually wouldn't mind a few of these, but yeah, it makes no sense now.  This could be something offered through the fan club, or perhaps Cartoon Network will do these on its website or something like that.

Wow.   :-\

Umm.  So.  Yeah.  This is why I hardly post at RS anymore.  I'm disappointed my post (which wasn't negative in the 'nitpicking' sense that Jimmy is talking about) apparently caused all this.  I was simply voicing my general mellowing out on all things SW.  I believe I praised a few of the figures in that same post.  I will continue to voice my opinion whatever it may be.

Sorry if that doesn't work for some folks.

It was a good interview (nice job Chris!) but I agree with Jesse that there was some spin.  Oh, well.

I'm really impressed with Luke.  Jesse is right, he's the best thing I've seen so far for 2004 - and right after that impressive Hoth Luke, too.  R1-G4 is a fantastic little surprise.  R2 will be great and that alien listed in the Jabba wave is aka Rappertunie.  Not sure why Luke and R2 are not in this wave as well.  Hmm.

Jimmy... who are you talking to/about?  Seems there's been overwhelming praise in this thread.

I think SW fatigue has finally settled in on me.  I looked at these and thought "Wow, those are great" and then didn't give them a second thought.  I found a slew of new figures at Target the other day and wasn't excited by my find at all.  I realized none of these characters were particularly compelling and the only reason I wanted them was because they're SW.

Between the distribution debacle (I finally did get a case from Newforce, only to have it be mispacked - no Hoth Han) and the fact I've been collecting these ALL MY LIFE I think I'm a little worn out.

That said, some of these pieces are fantastic.  Nightclub Obi Wan is probably the best Obi Wan ever, any scale, any trilogy.  All the Hoth figures are amazing, except for the Trooper, who betrays the fact he was sculpted pre-POTJ too well.  Like the Snowtrooper, he's not up to current standards.  And he's way too happy.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Lord of the Rings: Armies of Middle Earth
« on: August 6, 2003, 07:24 PM »
I saw these for the first time today at Target, and after taking one look at them, I was like, "Wow, so not collecting these."  They are significantly smaller than I imagined (I knew they were small, but yikes) and made no impression on me sculpt wise.  The sculpt and paint deco on a lot of the figs I saw left a lot to be desired.

That said, the two Uruk Hai sets (battering ram etc.) left me wondering WHY ON EARTH Toy Biz has yet to make a Helm's Deep Armored Uruk.  A gaggle of kids and Soccer Moms exploded when they saw these, leading me to believe that kids will find this line a much better (and cheaper) alternative to Toy Biz.

I did buy one Gandalf on Shadowfax to put on top of my computer.  Gandalf inexplicably has red hair.   :-\

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: JD Book Club: What Are You Reading Now?
« on: August 1, 2003, 08:05 PM »
Nah, it's not childish.  I'm reading it too.  About halfway through right now.  It's a little slow and contrary to most reviews I've read, JK Rowling's writing hasn't made any dramatic leaps.  Still, it's good.  And I love the creepy Big Brother aspect of the Ministry and Umbridge.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Which is Your Favorite "Other Toy Line"?
« on: August 1, 2003, 03:17 PM »
LOTR is my second favorite.  I don't have a complete collection by far.  It was Simpsons, but it reached a point where even I didn't recognize some of these people.  So I don't collect those any more.  Also, no cash/space.

I have a few figs from various lines, Spidey, X2, ML, Star Trek, but mostly I stick to Star Wars.
