I'm very tempted to start a whole new "The Wedge Fiasco" thread here in this forum because it is such an interesting topic of conversation right now. Does not seem to generate much discussion around here but it really gets ranted about ad nauseam at some otheR Sites.

I mean, people are really irate about this stuff, and the blame is being spewed everywhere. They're mad at Hasbro, they're mad at the brick and mortar stores, they're mad at the onlines sellers, they're mad at the eBay scalpers, they're even mad at the people paying the crazy prices for these things.

I don't have the historical perspective that some of you do, having been out of the hobby for a long while in the 90's, but I don't ever recall this level of hysteria about an action figure before. It's actually pretty amusing, and sort of fascinating from a sociological perspective.

I honestly think if they had just released Wedge as part of a regular wave with proper distribution that it would have killed about 90% of the hype. But by doing it as part of a revision wave, for a wave that was already flying off shelves, seems at best clueless and at worse cruel. I really think this is a great example of demand being fed purely by lack of availability. Like the South Park episode where Cartman bought his own amusement park and then closed it to the public, thereby instantly making it the most popular amusement park in the world.

That whole card revision thing did not help either. It's like a perfect storm of of insanity.

Oh, and I love that one online seller that cancelled all their pre-orders so they could sell Wedge on Amazon for twice as much.   ::) That's just brutal!

Sorry no actual purchases to detail with this post...I drove 40 minutes to a TRU in Fredericksburg yesterday but no sigh of Wave 7 yet.  :-[

Well, I know all those ones showing up on eBay aren't just from online sellers. Dude is out there somewhere. But ya, I've pretty much given up. It's been over 6 weeks now since I bought a new SW toy, don't see that changing anytime soon either.

Best thing about it is that it appears to include  Broadside.  Long overdue.

Isn't that Warthog?

I love this thing. Seems like they have moved a lot of focus onto the Deluxe line though, at the expense of the mid-size vehicles.

Well, the pegs may be jammed with TCW product but it's a glut of crap from 3-4 waves ago, if not older. Good luck finding much of the last 2 waves out there. The new stuff still seems to fly off the shelves, the problem is just that there isn't any new stuff shipping in any quantity. It's hard to gauge the overall health of the line right now because of the ongoing distribution mess.

Jeff, your foresight is admirable, but I don't think this is happening because the TCW line has gone stale or the kids have moved on to something else. If anything, it may be more of a commentary on the state of the TVC line than its animated counterpart.

I wish they would have held off on this until after the show was over and the proper animated line had run its course. Of course the bottom line is always money, and everything else is a distant second. No shock there.

Maybe. it is my recollection that the Mon Calamari were fighting the Quarren, not the Separatists per se.

Thought this fit here as well as anywhere else, but SSG has a little post-CC Q and A up with Hasbro, and they mention that there won't be "realistic style" versions of the new Clone Wars characters anytime soon - and they seem pretty definite on that (of course, we "definitely" weren't seeing a number of other things at some point or another too).  Anyways, just thought I'd pass it along, this particular question is towards the end.

From Action Figure Insider Q&A:

Yep, you asked for it, you got it.  A handful of core Clone Wars figures are planned for the Vintage Collection line in 2012.  Stay tuned for more information!

Ugh, not like we didn't know this was coming, but still. What is even the point? You already have all the core figures in the realistic style! Obi-Wan, Anakin, Rex, Cody, Yoda, etc.

Is anyone REALLY clamoring for a realistic Pre Vizsla?

This is just a crass cash grab on the part of Hasbro..a way to suck more money out of collector's hands who wouldn't touch the animated line otherwise. This is only going to hurt the TCW line IMO, you'll have more clutter on the pegs and even more pegwarmers from having 5 different Obi and Anis sitting there all year.

This only markes sense as a marketing gimmick. There is no philosophical basis for it whatsoever. Animated characters should be done in an animated style, and realistic characters should be done in a realistic style. Keep the chocolate away from the peanut butter!

Rant over.

So was anyone disappointed Vancouver lost?

I have been around enough obnoxious people from Boston to never be able to root for any of their teams again. That is one spoiled-ass sports town. That fan base can really be insufferable.

I really wanted to see the Cup back in Canada for a change. Felt a little sad for them today.

Why is he wearing a blue neck brace in that photo? Did someone rear-end him on the way to the show?  ::)

How ironic, they got rid of the one actor anyone had ever heard of on that series.

Unbelievable...this is the best one yet. Although it kind of sickens me that Filoni is treading all over the Tartakovsky rendition of that battle. Sorry Dave, he did it better. He did EVERYTHING better.

That aside though, pure awesomeness. Someone please confirm that those were the sticky Felucian things I saw talking to C-3PO...I love how bizarre and un-Star Warsy those things are.

They gotta make that Matrix-esque tunneling droid ship too.

Saw it last night, I enjoyed it a lot but ultimately it struck me as less pure Abrams and more of a Spielberg/Abrams mash-up. (Which makes sense given the dual production credits) It was very well done, and a solid summer movie for sure, but it left me wanting somehow.

I think overall I was hoping for something a bit darker, more like Cloverfield, which is my favorite thing he has ever done. (Sequel already!)

The kids were all great for sure. I just wish we could have seen more/better shots of the actual creature. It was even harder to see what it looked like than Clover. I always have that problem with CGI things, they move too fast for the human eye to really process the image. Whereas creatures done with actual physical suits/costumes looks so much more realistic (IE: The Predator). IMHO.

Lots of new shots of the first wave over at JTA...I guess they have just hit overseas. I have to question their whole "less than 30 days" projected domestic timeline because I don't think distribution is nearly that predictable.

I hate the thought of having to buy all 4 of these at once too...this feast or famine shtick is getting tiresome.

Thank God...this "temporary" look is HORRIBLE! What a godawful eyesore! Can't wait for the return of the classic JD look.

It's Lebron day.  We're all taking the last 12 minutes of the day off.

LOL, I'm taking my talents to the sofa.

I've never even heard of one of those, and I am all about comics. Classic ones anyway.
