Revenge of the Sith / Re: BARC Bike, and Clone Gunship
« on: May 4, 2005, 12:29 PM »
Now - I don't have an open gunship, but I do have two Barc speeders. They have this rip-cord feature that allows you to simulate the Barc-trooper racing into battle. (whatever)

Anyway, needless to say, the Barc Speeder is longer, doesn't come apart and has a large wheel in the rear. Taking all of this into account, my guess would be that the BARC Speeder DOES NOT fit or lock into the Gunship as nicely as the Speeder Bike did.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: More Target Exclusives?
« on: May 4, 2005, 12:00 PM »
I don't know if this helps or not, but supposedly there is going to be a SW aisle reset/refresh for May 8th. I'm guessing it is something they planned on doing just to make sure that the aisle was still presentable come May 19th.

Perhaps this will also be the time when those three or four pegs that read "Lava Vader" will be changed to "SA Clonetrooper" (or similar)?

I personally am hoping that items that haven't been widely available yet will start to show up - like the Mustafar playset and Wave 2 of Unleashed.

Another possibility is to call your Target and give them the DPCI number (it's at the start of this thread) and ask them to see if they have any instock.

I would prefer two screen scenes.

Tatooine: Owen, Beru, Cliegg & Baby Luke

Alderaan: Bail Organa, Queen, Bail's Aide & Baby Leia

If they did something like that I would be very happy.

Saga Collection '06 / Re: 2007

Online shopping is so unsporting--like those canned hunts where somebody trees a bear and then you go shoot it down. Not a fair fight.

If I could hunt down Target employees, hit with a dart filled with "How Can I Help You" serum, tag them for future hunts and move on, I'd be happy with that.  ;D

I do like the hunt when the stuff actually makes it to the pegs - in other words when I can find stuff.

I absolutely HATE the hunt when I can read that people are finding stuff all over the country and the pegs in my area are either bare or stale - this happens A LOT and I don't casually go hunting for new stuff - I hit stores EVERY DAY.

While there are some definite downsides to ordering online (unless then have a mint condition guarantee, you are always vulnerable to less than mint merchandise arriving), there are sometimes that I find myself wishing "If Hasbro would just let me buy from them directly, I wouldn't have to go through this bull****!"

Hasbro should run a RELIABLE "one of every figure" club, sort of like a subscription, say they have 60 figures a year. Let them have $8 per figure - that means $480 per year gets you one of every figure, MOC in a starcase. I would also make it where the purchase is divided up - charge $40 a month and if you want, do like what Cell Phones do - have it be year-to-year and if someone cancells early, charge them a cancellation penalty. If $80 a month got me doubles of the five new figures that month to my door w/o any searching, extra gas expense or frustration, I think I would be REALLY hard-pressed not to take Hasbro up on a deal like that.

Sweet! Good thing I haven't bought a BARC yet.

Although considering the spoilers I've seen, I think it would make more sense to put the Wookiee with the AT-RT and the clone with the BARC.... *scratches head*

*spoilers*

Actually, if you take a look at, I think, issue 3 of the ROTS comic book adaptation, Chewie and Tarful help Yoda fight his way past what looks like a squad of the clone that comes with the Barc - so perhaps they actually got it right (if the comic is to be believed).

Revenge of the Sith / Re: ROTS Recent Purchases
« on: May 3, 2005, 09:50 AM »
Between yesterday and today - picked up my two sets (one MOC and one opener) of the Deluxe Wave 2 assortment.

I've already opened up the Vader, Jet-pack Clone and Vulture Droid.

Will tear into the Yoda on Can-cell tonight!

All-in-all very pleased with these four deluxe figures - it is a WAY better wave than the launch wave.

This morning saw Collection 1, Wave 3 all over the place, Walmart and Target, plenty of Clone Pilots, Clone Commanders, Blue & Red Saber versions of Palpatine #35 and Exploding Grievous. One Target had what was left of a Collaction 2, Wave 3 case - one Pollis Massan and a Vader Medical Droid.

Glad to see the Wave 3 figures are starting to show up. Still haven't seen the Wave 4 Col 1 figures yet. Haven't seen the Dooku saber variant Anakin either. Not sure if that's in the case with the Wave 3 or Wave 4 figures though.

I'm still looking for a second Gunship - I'm kicking myself that I just didn't buy the two I saw a KB Toys on the 2nd - it's not like KB's price was bad or nothing either - it was $29.99 - same as Target/TRU. I'm also dying to find the Mustafar playset - can't wait to open up one of those and fiddle with it!

I'm in the same predicament that Jared is in.

I'm tempted to have them shipped to my job 'cause I should be moving in the next month.

I find it hard to believe that after you have to send in the UPC, the original receipt and the certificate, Hasbro would still have the balls to tell you - "sorry, we're out, didn't you read the fine print, it says 'while supplies last'" - cause part of me wants to just wait to send it in after I'm sure I'm in the new house - which could be as early as mid-June.

Jocasta's Reading Room / Re: ROTS Comics Out Now!
« on: May 2, 2005, 02:45 PM »
The Borders Books near where I work has issues #3 and #4 of the ROTS Comic Book adaptation.

While not as bad as the book, the last two issues of the comic also seemed rushed. I hope the movie isn't like that. I've always been in the school of thought that a SW movie could be 3-4hrs if it was compelling and clearly told the story. I hope GL doesn't rush ROTS at the end or cut things down to fit it into the 2hr mold of all of the other movies in the saga.

Jocasta's Reading Room / Re: ROTS Novel (Spoilers)
« on: May 2, 2005, 02:43 PM »
Agreed Pete on a lot of your points.  The first Act was way way way too in depth while the end was way way way too rushed.  It is not even close to being on par with the TPM and AOTC Novelizations IMO

You're exactly right, I've read almost all of the PT hardcovers:

Cloak of Deception
The Phantom Menace
Rogue Planet
The Approaching Storm
Attack of the Clones
Shatterpoint
Cestus Deception
Jedi Trial
Labyrinth of Evil
Revenge of the Sith

and I hate to say it, but out of all of them as books that tell a story - the Revenge of the Sith novellization is the worst. Labyrinth of Evil was leaps and bounds better.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: battle droids = terrible
« on: May 2, 2005, 02:36 PM »
Either way though, Hasbro needs to go back to the E1 droid plastic at least for these droid's legs.  They're attrocious.

Agreed. I can understand using a more flexible, lower-grade plastic for some parts of the figure - but the legs?!?!? If you're making legs for a figure that are a pin-width thick you make them out of a sturdy material that won't bend. I ended up putting my ROTS "Droid Army" away because all of the BDs and SBDs were falling over. Sad.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: I'm Not A Fan of Molded Sabers
« on: May 2, 2005, 11:41 AM »
I think Hasbro did it out of necessity for preserving the action feature.

You can't have the lightsaber loosely fitting in the character's hand and then have the character wave the arm about widly and STILL expect the figure to be holding the lightsaber. Solution: mold the lightsaber into the hand. Placate the Collectors: Make the hand removable and include a regular hand holding nothing.

As far as I'm concerned I don't mind them, at least Hasbro tried with these to accomodate as many people as possible. Personally I don't need a lit lightsaber accessory and prefer having all of the options offered by the first Obi-Wan and Anakin figures.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Best RotS Vehicle
« on: May 2, 2005, 11:37 AM »
I would like to chime in that I too think the ARC-170 is the hands down winner of the best ROTS and possibly the best PT toy-line ship.

The ship has decent scale relative to the figures. They didn't scrimp on the design and leave out a crew spot - it fits three pilots AND an astromech - how can you go wrong with that?

I think the second place to the ARC-170 is the Gunship - it was a great toy when it originally came out and it still is a great toy - but the ARC-170 has eclipsed it.

Now if they come out with an AT-TE or Turbo Tank, I'll have to rethink the best vehicle...

Revenge of the Sith / Re: RotS - Deluxe Figures
« on: May 2, 2005, 11:12 AM »
I picked up a case of Wave 2 today at WalMart - unfortunately the packaging on all of them was trashed so I ended up leaving one of the Vaders behind.

I've opened up the Vulture Droid, one of the Jet-Pack Clones and the Vader here at work. The Vader is FANTASTIC. This is the deluxe Vader figure that should have been released first. While I do like the quick change Anakin/Vader figure - there really isn't a point to it when you have a deluxe figure like this second Vader come right after it.

The Jet-pack Clone is great. I know some of you don't like the lack of articulation on the trooper, but I'm fine with that and I'm glad I didn't put the second one back - my Clone army needs at least TWO aerial combat units.

The Vulture Droid is nice - I'm glad they didn't try the split wing legs like they did on the 3 Droid Fighter set for TPM. I don't mind this being a repaint/re-release or the price. I would have preferred that the Buzz droid have a peg like the ones that came with the Droid Tri-fighter to plug into the sockets on Anakin and Obi-Wan's starfighters.

I think this assortment is completely messed up - I can see Vader and Jet-pack Clonetrooper being INCREDIBLY popular. Why not just release a wave of just those two figures - three of each in the case? Everyone loves Vader and the army builders are going to snatch up the clone.

Yoda and the Vulture droid could have been saved for the next assortment, just throw in either the Clone Troopers or the Dwarf Spider Droid and you're set with that assortment. I don't see why demand of those two deluxe figures would be any less - to me the Vulture Droid is an army builder in its own right.

The problem with a plan like that is (a) there probably isn't going to be another Star Wars celebration and (b) it just makes too much damn sense.

How's this for another plan: If you KNOW you're going to sell more AFTER the show, announce it so you chop the vendors off a the knees. You make them question just exactly HOW MANY were made and they think twice before hoarding them for after-event price gouging.

Just think if all of the Vaders that went into the hands of vendors instead were left over and were selling now on shop.starwars.com? Jerks like Brian's Toys wouldn't be even daring to ask $80 for one of these!

I feel that the dealers inflated the demand of the Jorg Sacul too - at this point, he's down around $40 and many times the auction closes w/o any bidder. In another two or three years, I bet that figure will be available for about what you could get it for at Celebration 2 - the reason is that many of them fell into the hands of vendors, not actually the people who truly wanted them. Sure there was everyone at the event who got them and then the die-hards who couldn't attend who fed into the eBay frenzy, but after that, all that's left are those who pass due to the price tag and those who just aren't interested in GL's head on an X-Wing pilot body.

The same is and WILL be true of the Vader.
