I don't think he's rare, but I'm sure people would take some off you, especially with K-Mart's BOGO thing going on right now on SW toys.

Some of the POTC figures were sorta there only briefly.  I know I'd take another Pablo if I found one for $3.50 just for the fodder factor.  :)  Good alien bits are hard to find sometimes.

I think Microsoft tries just about hard enough considering what they pull in yearly.  I'm sure they feel they could try even harder. ;)

Bill Gates couldn't get a dog to lick his face with a porkchop tied around his neck if he didn't "try so hard", so I think he's more than happy.

The Original Trilogy / Re: Are Stormtroopers Clones?
« on: December 6, 2005, 01:53 AM »
I'm a strong advocate of believe what you want to believe, but there is no definite answer to this question so "yes of course they are (aren't)" kind of replies are baseless and add nothing.

Lucasfilm has the stance that during the Empire (and its rise) Clones are mixed with recruited sentients to fill the Stormtrooper ranks.  This is basically a way of them taking the implied notion that they're Clones by Lucas himself and the Expanded Universe that, for decades, de-cloned the Imperial army and said they were recruited individuals.

That's LFL's stance, but not canon...  Just a nice way to simplify an unanswerable argument/debate.  Their stance says the Clones are from a variety of hosts that aren't all the swiftest in military expertise either, but rather picked for their political ties...  This, to me, is total bull**** because I think the whole concept of ST's being "bad shots" and inept soldiers is pretty much a falacy.  ST's mop up the floor with Rebel Soldiers on Hoth, Endor, and aboard the Tantive IV.  Kenobi himself says the shots on the Crawler were too accurate for anyone but ST's (I don't view him as trying to sway anyone, he's merely pointing out what he sees as a fact).

ST's just can't hit Han, Luke, Leia, etc. because well it'd be a hell of a hard story to tell if all the characters died off quickly.  It's like playing a video game with the utmost in realistic settings.  If you tried playing Medal of Honor as if it were a real game, you'd not get off the beach during the D-Day landings because in real life you die...  Or you're lucky and live.  In Star Wars the heroes live because they have to so the story can be told, not because Stormtroopers are inaccurate Degenerated DNA soldier rejects.  That's just people not being capable of thinking outside the box IMO.

Annnnyyyywayyy....

That's LFL's thing.  Others think that all Stormtroopers are Clones and they choose to disevow all the EU that says otherwise.  I actually think Lucas himself feels this way but he never clearly states it in the films for one reason or another.  He is known for wanting to contradict EU at times but being "persuaded" not to do so...  He supposedly didn't want to use Coruscant as the planet's name since Zahn created it, but he was "persuaded" to do so by people within LFL....  Fine.  Lucas isn't the end-all-be-all answer to anything Star Wars really if you choose NOT to listen to him.  That's simply your way of viewing his art, and he can't sway you one way or another.  It'd be like Michelangelo appearing while you mull over his statue of David and telling you WHAT to see instead of your mind telling you what you see.  We had a lotta conversation about this very concept in my Tolkien Studies course as we read Lord of the Rings.

Other people believe Stormies are all recruits...  At present that's my take because recruitment/training is a much faster means of building an army since Cloning took 10 years for them to mature to a fighting age, and ultimately I just like thinking that the galaxy was READY for an Empire.  That the majority in the galaxy were so dejected with political affairs under the Republic, that people were so anti-alien/pro-Palpatine, that people were so ready for law/order and peace (remember, it's preached in E3, and a focal point of WHY the Empire is good), that they welcome the Empire with wide open arms...

Is everyone happy?  No, but in the grand scheme of things the vast majority I believe are, there's lots of positives the Empire offers, and the Empire manages to hide the things it does that aren't so nice for quite a while...  Or people are just as happy they did them.  I mean if there's a lot of anti-alien sentiment, does anyone care if aliens are enslaved?  Some planets will, but the Empire could be made of a majority who look down on the Wookiee Species for helping the Jedi who many perceive as trying to overthrow the Republic and take control via the confusion of the Clone Wars...  People are taught to hate/fear the Jedi's, and that a lot of their plight in life is from their kind.

Anyway, that's just some of MY perspective but it's still not canon by any means...  Canon's just what's in the films and undisputable by other sources as far as argument goes.  But how you view the films, the EU, and all other facets of the Star Wars galaxy is personal interpretation, and with that there are no "rules" to live by...  Canon included.  It just makes no sense to come into a discussion about the SW galaxy though and say, "yeah well I don't believe that even if it was in the film so your point doesn't matter".  That's fine to feel that way, but it doesn't make for good discussion/argument. :)

I'm to the point I could buy the LFL stance of Recruits mixed with Clones (I don't buy the various host theory though and I'd envision ALL Clones being Jango Clones, till the clones in Zahn's trilogy but that's another topic).  That's a nice way of accepting the film's implications and the EU all in one nice neat package.  Right now though I'm still leaning towards ALL recruits in the Empire though.  It adds a vastness to the galaxy that I love too...  That they could recruit that many possibly Trillions (or even more?) people into their military juggernaught.  That's practically impossible to even fathom for me, but that adds so much to Star Wars for me too.

It's bigger than it had been, I give it that, because I've been at the show when half that room was filled and those were rough years, but yeah it wasn't very hoppin' with deals.

I look for customs fodder and junk...  Vintage I've sorta bowed out of till prices stabilize, but I almost did bite on a $75 Amanaman actually.  Modern's just a sham there unless you're buying stuff that's become things that dealers were stuck with.  They're like riding some weird high on SW toys though with the ROTS film year.  I think in a year we'll see things back to normal where guys have bins of ROTS figures (and older stuff) for like $3 to $5 a figure.  THEN I'm willing to buy. :)  Not before I try to weasel them down some though, that's my style!  haha!  I love it!

JD Sports Forum! / Re: NFL Regular Season 2005-06

So the Steelers sucked hard Sunday afternoon...  Talk in the town is rampant about how hated Cowher is right now, and I agree he has to shoulder a lot of the blame at the moment, but at the same time the Steelers are a hurting team from the QB down to the line...

The Steelers played well in some respects Sunday but they abandoned the run, Willie Parker was a joke and he really shouldn't be their go-to guy.  I'd still be seeing what Bettis can deliver to you or Staley, and let Parker serve his purpose as a back-up.  He's not the end-all RB this team sometimes treats him like, and his fumbles just reinforced that.

Roethlisberger threw so much you almost hate to criticize him on the Int's, but at the same time they were dumbass throws that he knows better than to make and if his thumb was the cause then that just reinforces my point about dropping the running game as they did.

The D didn't look horrible given the way the game played out, but the O line failed at times, again, and mostly for the running game but Ben was on his back a bit too often.  They've needed to step it up for 3 games straight and didn't so that's disconcerting.  A lack of pressure on Cincy was disappointing from our D, but they were trying and getting him sometimes...  Our secondary was next scariest to the Oline then.

Lots and lots of talk of the Steelers not even making it...  Lots thinking in town right now that they could lose a lot of their next times, if not all of them.  The more respected voices (IMO) are saying they'll lose 1 or 2 more, but not all...  They could win all their final games if they'd get healthy and step it up though.  They can do this, just a matter if will they or not.

Good game though, just painful to watch at times and I'm sick of Cowher's post-game conferences where he acts like an indignant prick about answering the TOUGH questions he SHOULD be answering.  To me he owes some explanations, that's his job if he isn't winning, so the arrogance he's exuded these last couple games...  Like it pains him to do that press conference, so he's just gonna be short and snide.  What a peckerhead.  It pained us to watch the Steelers lose a 3rd game in a row, so to me he needs to be a little more civil.

I'm gonna say it right now, but Sidney Crosby I'd tentatively put on that list.  He's really just amazing to watch.

Now if everyone else would get it together!

Part of me thinks that someone who buys something without reading a description on Ebay's just SOL.  If it was an empty box without SAYING so I think that's fraud plain and simple...  Probably is by definition but I dont' feel like thinking about this that hard, but if it's described as such, empty headed parents could get their empty box, and learn a very full lesson.

Yeah to their credit (hah) they've got their hands full (or is that "fool"?  whatever).

To effectively keep him out they'd have to actually pay some attention to quality and stuff over there, and well, we all know about how well that'd go don't we? :)

Toy Reviews / Re: JD Review - Commander Gree (Battle Gear)
« on: December 5, 2005, 02:00 AM »
Yeah I got a handful for that same reason Anton.  I really REALLY hope Gree gets a new figure down the line at some point or another.  Even if they use the #41 sculpt but all his extras are just accessories you snap on.  It could be done and look cool (the belt's a separate piece so make a new belt/suspenders piece you clip on the figure, a removable thigh holster, etc., etc.), and for god's sake do the paintjob justice.

You could do a great Gree with the base figure being the SA Clone to save some scratch.  I know that's what Hasbro wants to do being as cheap as they are, so fine, but don't skimp on the paintjob and accessories then.  Show the good commander some love.

Dude, you should've said something so we could have met up.  Me and some of the PSWCS guys went to John Harvard's afterwards for their beer/lunch.  Good times.

I bought a bunch of loose stuff for a fair price.  Retail actually so that's all that makes me happy.  I got 2 ROTS Royal Guards (1 red, 1 blue), a VOTC stormtroooper MOC, a Red EE Clone, a Blue EE Clone (He had a green one for $8 or I'd have got it too), an Imp. Officer POTJ, an TRU Imp pack Stormtrooper....  The guy tried cheating me though on price as I asked him to "do a deal for me on price" since I bought so much and his idea of a "deal" was basically selling me stuff for a couple bucks OVER what the stickers added up to.  I asked him if he could do better and finally I got what they basically added up to (slightly less).   ::)  What a total dick though.

And on top of that I heard, at least twice, dealers pulling the age old scam of "I thought you gave me a $10?" when giving out change.  THis has happened to me twice at the shows but not in the same day.  So either there's a lotta douchebags who failed Math at this show running dealer tables or this is jsut a pretty common scheme by guys who don't want to look for gainful employment.  I'm wagering it's more the latter.

I didn't find a LOT at the show.  It was disappointing...  Nirvana, you really should have hooked up with the local guys because someone very well may have a Gunship or Ani Evolutions available for you for cost.  The local group is really tight knit and helpful.

So that was about it for me...  I got Vintage hand-crank "Movie Viewer" lot too.  It was pretty sweet and for $16 it was cheap to get what I think is an almost complete set.

Vintage was a bit more sparse and modern was OUTRAGEOUSLY priced at the show.  As predicted I saw exactly why finding a Shocktrooper, "final 12" figure, or Evolutions set is a real bitch too.  Table upon table had modern stuff out the whazzoo, and I saw average prices of basic figures was around $15 - $30.  Evolutions were as much as $50.

Fun to look around the show and hang out.  Finding deals was tough this month though.  I don't pay over retail-ish price so I just had a rough time finding things I could justify buying.

Lots of goodness there...

Nice to see Hasbro make that Gonk a much more worthy figure by packing in the Treadwell.  A new paintjob on him woulda been cool but whatever.

Veers including his hat is great for customizers.  A castable Imperial Kepi has been long overdue, and hollowing them out is nye on impossible.  The sculpt looks like one of the most accurate likenesses I've ever seen too, that's impressive.

Derlin almost appears like he re-uses legs from Riekean, but I could be wrong.

Snowtrooper almost looks worth having one or two of, haha.  Bummer not SA though still.

AT-AT Driver's neat looking but I still would have preferred a new Snowtrooper and re-released AT-AT Driver.  Unlike the TIE Pilot there's a LOT less difference between sculpts here.

Looks cool to me overall and I want a couple Gonks and many MANY Veers figures. :)

BTW I noticed that the loosies aren't the same figures as the carded ones.  There's noticeable differences with most of them if not all of them, so I'm guessing the looses are just cropped images from online (my guess) and the carded shots were given by an overseas etailer or aren't being opened by who has them for whatever reason.  Just some observations.

Alliance...  Proven gritty soldiers, dedication...  Best fighter corps by far and away too, but their military's formidable and the EMpire overestimates itself leaving them open to attacks when and where they don't expect it.

The Alliance definitely...  Plus they've got the best uniforms.  It's only their fleet troopers who suck.

BBi Rangers and Infantry have appearently hit TRU in limited quantities...so I guess that constitutes a search tommorow. I'd like to have a few of these, and if I really like 'em, I may pick up one of those BBi Shermans that have been sitting for around a year.

Still none of these here Vator...

I did see the Merril's Marrauders set for the first time.  For $40 (I think) you really got a lot.  I've heard a whole lotta bitchin' about the figure's quality and for the most part it's legitimate beefs on a basically complete inaccuracy ala Cmdr. Gree but the Marrauders have basically Market Garden uniforms on.  I see the point, but for an exclusive where you get the 1.5 ton Truck and the Dodge Command Car (general purpose) and a pile of accessories and gear...  That's not bad considering the price and all that stuff.

Hate those Para's headsculpts that are "screaming" and stuff though.  Just f'n stupid looking.  21st needs tot ake a page from BBI and tone down the animated faces.  The Japanese and Marines suffer from the gritting, grunting, grimacing, screaming, and general looks of constipation.  Some are really comical.
