Saga Collection '06 / Re: Any TSC Pegwarmers?
« on: April 16, 2006, 01:54 AM »
Right now it varies from what I see.

One Target has more Geonosis Wave than anything which suits me fine since I buy a Sun Fac every time I'm at Target anymore.  Poggle's a major pegwarmer at almost every Target and some TRU's though.

Wal-Marts I hit still hardly even have pegs for figures, much less figures.  Some of the western Wal-Mart stores in the metro area have pegs and some figure remnants I hear but I only hear of 3 WM's really getting anything.  Of the 5 - 7 I hit semi-routinely, no WM has a single figure...  I'd say that half or more of those stores don't have pegs for figures, so they're dead in the water obviously.

Target I see that weird mix though of Hoth, and Geonosis...  Yoda from the COurscant Wave too is sitting and not going anywhere soon.  I did notice tonight a ton of Carkoon at Target though, from I assume repacks as there were smatterings of other "new" old stuff too.

Hoth I saw in mass abundance at TRU till this sale.  The thing of it is, is that TRU won't be bright enough to see they can move product and profit off it with a simple sale like that.  But stores that had 12 pegs (or more in some cases) full of Hoth wave with smatters of Geo/Coruscant/Carkoon waves, but predominantly Hoth figures, are now barren of ANY basic figures.  $4.50 moves toys.

I'd certainly be far less inclined to bitch about the quality too.  $4.50 seems to me to be about what we get in figure for the price, at least by my estimations.

If they redo R2: Pop-Up Saber, I'd really like them to just make it a plain R2-D2 with a slot on his head you can fit a hilt into...  Nothing flashy or gimmicky, just R2 for that single moment.

If they want a bladed saber, include a removable blade or something, but Hasbro needs to appreciate the K.I.S.S. motto on this one I think.  A simple, new dome for Bar2-D2 would suffice IMO.

Picked up 3 of the 5 today at TRU.  The ones at TRU are taped and not heat sealed.  Time to go hunting you package freaks; Matt.   :P

Interesting...  At least though someone might get a nice, displayable loose set then.  I'm planning to use some of my leftover VOTC packaging I have lying around to display them so they all look alike, as my set was heatsealed.

Mangles the hell out of the cards, but the bonus is that perhaps people will feel they're less desireable that way and maybe those ones will be an easier find.

Of course, these could ship in droves and just be all easy to find since they're one wave released to (assumedly) all retailers.

1 loose, and oh man is that a great figure....  5 on a slow boat.

17675
I'm not bothering with the UGH but trying to help those who are...  I've yet to see ONE UGH figure on the pegs.  Or in person for that matter.  Not a lot is shipping in heavy quantity around here right now though from what I hear, so maybe that's part of it.

Different frequencies?  Ooooooooo, that's a deal breaker, I must have these now.

Saga Collection '06 / Re: Ordering TSC Cases?
« on: April 16, 2006, 01:38 AM »
I ordered from NewForce a while back...  I think Commtech days maybe it was.  I'd written ordering online off for the most part because I generally found what i wanted in stores anyway but NF had come through for me.

Current fears of them being unreliable have me concerned though about something I did order off them.  It's always something, I tells ya.  ::)

They're becoming findable around here.  I'm not gonna go on and say "abundant" right now, as when I pass on them at any given moment they're gone the next time I'm at the store...  Definitely not sitting here yet, but they are more readily available anyway.

I've passed on maybe 5 total...  I never have seen more than 3 at a given time though.  I buy one here and there, sometimes two as funds permit, but when I saw 3 I left one of them...  Spread too thin right now.

Scorch and Cody are still the "hot" item that I can't get ahold of in stores.  ALl of Coruscant Wave actually is hard to find here yet.  The other 3 waves are stagnating somewhat, though Scorch and anything 1-per in a case is still not too common.  Like even the Gonk Droid isn't terribly easy to find and that wave's been out a while.  Oddly enough I'm noticing Veers drying up a bit too, even where Hoth Wave's in mass abundance like TRU was before this sale.  Even the Gonk's easier to find than he is at the moment.

VTSC isn't even outside the backroom yet so I'm not even judging it at the moment...  The Scout's gonna be a pain though for everyone.

Saga Collection '06 / Re: Anyone else think we'll see more pods?
« on: April 16, 2006, 01:30 AM »
I thought someone had mentioned to me the Senate Pod was from something else already, and wasn't something they had to retool...  And now I can't remember where I was told this but I brought up a similar point about it being re-released.

With the TRU Sale I decided to stock up some.  It brought figures to roughly $4 and change after tax, not tooooo bad really...  COnsidering this year's crappy prices and weaker figure efforts I figured it was the only way I'd really cave on some custom fodder and army builders.

I got:

5 AT-AT Drivers, 2 GONK droids, Major Derlin, and a SNowtrooper.  The snowtrooper was for my gf's son.  I'm refusing to buy that POS kitbash.  Super articulate it or don't put it out there, that's my opinion on him.

I went to another TRU then last night, they'd had some COruscant Wave and Carkoon remnants...  They have 0 figures.  The one I got all the above stuff at has barely anything left now I hear tell as well.

When will these stores realize that $4 and change moves figures well...  $7 let's them rot.  The only way my TRU's make room is when either the figure is rare and moves like Scorch and Cody, or when there's a sale.  Otherwise finding stuff (if you aren't picky) at TRU has been a breeze.  They're the only store with a lot of dedicated peg space for Star Wars these days.

I've heard stories that go far beyond space perks other clubs got and they ultimately had no need for it...  Though space was a huge problem for us all weekend.  Other issues clogged up the works though no doubt.  It was handled piss poor from the get-go.

The Con was fun, but there's gotta be better ways to do that crap than what they did.  There has just gotta be.

17682
I agree with Brent's thoughts on it going some place like Vegas.  If I'm in Vegas it's to drink and gamble, not go to SW conventions. :)  That was a benefit to it being at an incredibly dull location like Indianapolis...  No offense to the Indy folk of course.

A flat small city with little "attraction", lots of restaurants, good hotels, and everything fairly central, was all beneficial...  THe Con was what you were there for, and you enjoyed time with friends in the evening.

The idea of it moving around some isn't a bad idea...  I'd be ok with going to Indy again though.  It was convenient on a number of levels.  The show was run like crap, but it seems to be every year?  That's always been my impression when everyone got home anyway.

I only want some better handling of the con more than it moving...  I helped with the www.FFURG.com booth they had set up in the Fan Group area...  I got there early to start setting up, and I have to say it was a real screwjob to some of the fan tables.  We were able to secure little support from the convention's employees, they were incredible arrogant and hostile towards those asking for help...

Our group needed more space, more tables, information, and the ability to get our volunteers in so we could work early.  We were given none of the above.  We had to fight to get any of it, EVERY day.  It truly was a pain in the ass in that regard.

It was a little irritating too, to see that some booths had tons of perks while they had little actual effort and/or "work" going on at their booths.  It was mostly a PR thing.  The FFURG booth had actual work going on, big crowds every day...  And a big middle finger from the people running the con.

Toy Reviews / Re: New JD Review: Sora Bulq
« on: April 15, 2006, 03:19 AM »
I think that, had this been 2004 and all these were what we were getting at that time at those prices, I likely wouldn't be this persnickity about articulation on EVERYTHING.

I've paid $7 for most every figure I got this year though...  That's outrageous at this point, to pay that and get basically something that has a little bit of poseability at the arms and NOTHING at the legs.  Veers is my best case for this...  You're getting a GOOD $5 figure....  You're getting a **** $7 figure.

It's not so much that I dislike the Veers figure, as I dislike the price I paid to get a figure that is about as poseable as a vintage figure is from the waist down.  The helmet bowing outward and lack of back armor flaws aside, it's a passable 2004 figure.  Veers would've gained high marks that year at the $5 pricetag I paid for most of 2004.

Then 2005 came, we got a movie year packed with figures I consider high quality like almost anything out of Collection 2.  IT was a great year for most of 2005.  Hell, even the OTC ended with the Cantina Wave...  How freaking great were those figures, and at $5 to $6 you got a deal on those IMO.  HOlsters, guns, articulation, booze...  They had it all plus scupts and paint aps that rivaled teh best work Hasbro has thrown our way.

Now jump to today, and we get Derlin...  He's not bad for 2004.  He's **** for 2006 and $7.  Same with Veers...  Sora Bulq goes right in that category.  Few figures are getting the pass because I know Hasbro can do better because they DID do better and for the love of god they charged us less on top of it!

I'm not so much bitching about $7 for a figure as long as I get a $7 figure, not something that falls FAR short.

Sora Bulq didn't even fall far short...  He's like a milimeter from greatness to me.  Just that someone at Hasbro...  We'll call him Hasbro Monkey #3.  He said, "Hmmm...  Why give him knee joints?  Let's put the investment in those into his ankles instead!  Because ankle joints really are versatile for poseable toys!"

Ankles are cool articulation points, no doubt, but when you don't articulate the knees...  Then wtf is the point?

It's like articulating a figure's elbows but NOT his shoulders, ya know?  Well what good is an elbow joint if the shoulders don't move?

The ankles can be omitted...  They're expendable articulation points on most figures (not all, just most).  The knees however, as with elbows and wrist joints, should really be a line standard, especially when you're raping your consumers for $7 a figure.

Here's a suggestion...  Do like me, and if you don't have involvement in here, don't post.

Seriously.  I AM part of the staff here, and this isn't MY business, so thusly I stay out of it.  Hemish is one of MANY stand-up people at our site...  He's one of the entire membership here of "stand up people", and the staff in charge of this are handling this for said people.

Those of us not involved need not comment...  Call me spanky, but that'd be MY "stance".  Thank you.

I'm not dropping this to agitate, just simply giving advice that should be applied to more conversations at ANY forum, not just here.  It simply makes more sense to me, I don't know.

Well..  Spell checker is your friend?  I don't know.

Seriously though, taking time to spell things out completely instead of abbreviating will go a long way towards people taking you seriously around here, as we're a little strict in regards to that compared to some other sites.  We encourage people of all ages to join in, but we also run a site that we like to cater to more adults, and the lax spelling doesn't generally fly well.

Not much advice otherwise...  Welcome aboard JediDefender.com, look around, share your thoughts and opinions, enjoy yourself, and have fun.
