30th Anniversary Collection / Re: EE Mandalorian 14 Pack

I like this one.  New figure, nice colors, removable helmet.  :)

Two figures = great
Two figures = more #41 repaints ::)

10 more to go...

30th Anniversary Collection / Re: 2007 Star Wars Comic Packs

The price is still right, just the figures could stand to be a little better, especially when the first wave and part of the 2nd was basically full of repainting which saved some $$$.

The cash they saved by using repaints in Wave 1 is probably what allowed them to put new sculpts in these 2-for-$10 packs in the first place.

I'm not surprised to see many of these figures end up with less articulation.  It's two figures and a comic book for $10.  There can't be that much leeway in there for them to add all sorts of articulation and still meet the cost goals...

Here's a bit of an article from the IJ Ofiicial Site.  It's from February 2006...

Might want to check back a few pages for the discussion on that article... :)

You can find a lot of history of the original Indy line at the Official Indy site.  It was an interesting article then and it still holds well today.  Lots of history and reasons why the first Indy line tanked with kids compared to the SW Stuff.  And, just to add some fuel for the debate, it's interesting to see what LFL had to say about indy toys just over a year ago...

"Roffman suggests that should another Indy film be released, a new toy line would definitely be considered. "I'm not sure it would necessarily be 3.75" action figures, but something that's more in line with what we've done with [Star Wars] Unleashed -- a larger scale, more detailed action figure."

For Great Justice!

I haven't thought about ALL YOUR BASE in quite a while...

"He called my name and my heart stood still" a lyric from a Johnny Cash song.

Not just a Johnny Cash song, but a classic.

If you like the Cash version do yourself a favor and track down a copy of "Run On for a Long Time", the 1943 version by Bill Landford and the Landfordaires (that's where Moby took his samples for his version of the song called "Run On").  It's different, but just as good.

Oops, forgot this one over the weekend...

Thanks to Michael for another quick payment on some loose figures.  :)

Could this be from the evolutions set?

According to the info from Hasbro at Celebration IV, that Clone Wars poncho clone is supposed to be a repaint using the Clone Wars 03-50 figure (the one in the Saga Legends line right now).

Kubricks / Re: Carded Kubricks
« on: July 9, 2007, 03:03 PM »
I'm hoping that Uzay snowtrooper is like the shadow trooper, and ends up being $50-60 when the dust settles.

I guess it all depends... it seems like the carded figures that are tied more closely to "vintage Kenner" things (like the Droids R2 & Droids Fett) seem to stay around the $75-100 mark while the ones that have nothing to do with Kenner (Shadowtrooper, Holo Leia) seem to be the ones that drop further in price.

Since Uzay is kind of niche homage to the vintage bootleg stuff, it will be interesting to see where the demand will lead the price... either way I'll still end up with one.   :)

Gentle Giant / Re: Gentle Giant Mini-Busts

What burns my butt is the fact that GG will have more of the Animated R2-Yoda's at CC then they did at a flipping starwars convention(CIV)!!!!

That probably has to do with numbers:
- In May, Celebration 4 attracted over 35,000 fans.
- In 2006, SDCC attracted over 120,000 fans.

If there are going to be over 3 times as many people at SDCC, then they should have more of them there IMHO...

So you mean there's absolutely, positively no hope for Lando in Bespin evening gown? >:(

Not this year... but Hasbro has said a  number of times in the Q&A that the concept figures were well recieved and they may consider doing more in the future - examples:

"...the concept has really been a big hit and there is a possibility that we will do some more in the future."

"What we have shown is it for concept figures for the year, but judging by great fan response, it is an idea we are considering revisiting in future years"

For the 80th time...the final AOTC Wave is supposed to contain a Concept Rebel Trooper

Yes, yes, yes.   How soon folks forget these things...

And, for the proof:  The Hasbro Stands sticker sheet lists the following:

  • Boba Fett - McQuarrie Concept
  • Chewbacca - McQuarrie Concept
  • C-3PO - McQuarrie Concept
  • Darth Vader - McQuarrie Concept
  • Han Solo- McQuarrie Concept
  • Luke Starkiller - McQuarrie Concept (aka Hero Starkiller)
  • Luke Skywalker - McQuarrie Concept
  • Obi-Wan Kenobi - McQuarrie Concept
  • R2-D2 - McQuarrie Concept
  • Rebel Trooper - McQuarrie Concept
  • Snowtrooper - McQuarrie Concept
  • Stormtrooper - McQuarrie Concept
  • Yoda - McQuarrie Concept

That's the 13 figures.

AND, please note that the sticker sheet also lists General McQuarrie without mentioning him as part of the concept line.

I'm still not sure why Hasbro is still being coy about that AotC Wave when so many of the figures (Voolif Mon, Concept Rebel, Droideka w/Shield) have been leaked or hinted at... hopefully the wave is shown at SDCC so this can be settled once and for all.   ;)

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: The Transformers Live Action Movies

I saw it this afternoon... and I really enjoyed it. Of course, I'm not a G1 nerd so I wasn't disappointed in some of the changes.   :-X ;)

It was kind of fun to hear Optimus Prime's voice again (like Scotty, I was a wee lad whence I last watched an episode of TFers).  I loved the Autobots and I really enjoyed the cheesy parts as well (such as all the 'bots hiding in the backyard).

I'll also agree with some of the thoughts here in that the transformations were badass - those effect do deserve an oscar for the way they carried them out.  When Bonecrusher and Prime transformed on the freeway to battle, it was totally geeky and I loved it.

There were some parts they could have cut to make the movie shorter (stuff with the dog, looking for the glasses), but it was still a lot of fun.  :)

Hey Hasbro! / Re: Questions for Hasbro?
« on: July 7, 2007, 10:38 PM »
Will the Indiana Jones line be focused on Indy 4 or on the whole saga?

Based on the LEGO sets and some of the other info leaking so far, it is very likely that the Indy line will include stuff from all 4 movies and not just the latest one.  We'll have more info and confirmation at SDCC I'm sure...

Don't know if the question is asked or not, but with succesfully bringing out the V-wing fighter ( very glad to have one :) ),there is a case of when is the special pilot coming out?

Last time someone asked about that was back in December... the answer then was no:

we do not have a V-Wing pilot slated to go with the V-Wing as of this time.  Eventually, it will be a figure we'll do but we do not have a timetable.  Patience on that one.

So, much like everything lately it's an "eventually" answer.

I'll also add this rumor/nugget -

I talked with my brother today, who had just talked to a friend of his in New Haven (where they are shooting scenes right now).  His friend swears a few of the LFL guys on the set this AM were playing with Indy Galactic Heroes style figures - Indy Vs Cairo Swordsman and Indy Vs Belloq.   :o

I have no proof/photos but considering how well I know the source, I am inclined to believe it...   :)

Since this has been drifting towards a toy-ish thread...

Yeah, technically all this talk should be in the "Other Toys" thread, but I'll let one of the other nerds mods clean that up....

On the toy note, Hasbro dropped some Indy hints in our latest Q&A session:

3. OK, last time we asked, you couldn't say. But, now that the cat is out of the bag thanks to the LFL press release, what can you tell us about your upcoming Indiana Jones IV toy line? Scale? Vehicles? Playsets? New and old movies? Will we see a preview at Comic Con? Will we have to wait until Toy Fair '08 for our first glance? (as you can tell, we're all pretty stoked about Indy toys  ;))

**We are glad to hear it, because we are stoked too! While we will be sneak-previewing some figures at Comic Con International in San Diego, we have to keep the details under wraps for now. We can divulge that there are some very familiar scales, as well as a few surprises in the line. Suffice to say that we have top men working on it. The same top men that have been bringing you the Star Wars line, so there should be a lot of consistency in approach.
