The Blackhawks game last night was maddening.  They ran Phoenix all over the ice.  Shots were like 20 to 2 at one point, and Phoenix gets a power play goal and suddenly has a lead.

Nothing would go in for Chicago, and then they unraveled in the 3rd.

Totally ******* unreal.

A good/great goaltender can take you a long, long way.

It's true.

Although I think Chicago had a serious problem putting any air under the puck.  They kept throwing it at him low... missed a few wide open nets too.

Eddie O has been saying that exact same thing all series against Phoenix and it seems from memory that the main goals they scored were all up high.  They also didn't have nearly enough traffic in front of the net.  Smith had way too many open looks at shots.

One other thing that Eddie O said during the Hossa/Torres incident that I would love to get people's opinion on was with respect to how the league can get bad hits under control.  He stated that if a player is suspended for an illegal hit, then the team should have to play short handed for each game that player is suspended.  He thought players and coaches would have more incentive for policing themselves if that were the case.

I realize that it would never happen, but it could possibly keep things under more control.  Now, I'm not in favor of neutering players like the NFL tried to do this past season, but I did think he brought up an interesting concept...

All the league has to do is take away the instigator penalty.  As long as you have some dumb ass enforcer out there that'll beat the crap out of some moron that takes a cheap shot then the cheap shots stop.  Ever see Gretzky take a couple of shots to the head?  Why not?

The red line might help with open ice hits too, but I'm still of the opinion you should skate with your head up, not down.

And yeah, I get the issues with fighting and enforcers having issues but three cases over a summer is correlation, not causation.

I'm 2 for 5 in my picks so far. Here's hoping the Rangers can deliver an early birthday present on Thursday (though I'd prefer a late one and a Cup).

Agreed.  I'm used to being let down by Washington sports teams.  The Caps are abysmal in game 7's.  Since every game has been a one goal game so far, I kind of expect that they will get blown out.

Yeah, most of the Caps fans seem to think it is a foregone conclusion also.

They have had some back luck with playoff draws the past 3 years.

I wouldn't really say that, but between going up 2-0 on Pittsburgh and pretty much not showing up for that game 7 and losing to the eight seed at home, I don't have high hopes for tonight.

So last year's finalists are flushed already.  No Penguins, no Red Wings, no sharks.

I can only imagine what Canuckia will have to say if we end up with a Panthers/Coyotes Finals.  :-X
