JD Sports Forum! / Re: NHL Offseason
« on: March 9, 2005, 11:24 AM »
I don't have a link for it (yet) but apparently Gretzky has been quoted as saying even though he won't like doing it, he'll put scabs on the ice next season (not his exact words).

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=2008108

"My honest opinion is I don't like it," Gretzky said. "They're not the Sundins or the Leetches of the world. This is replacement players, and it is what it is. The commissioner has to do what he thinks is best to get the game back on the map and get it going. We're only one of 30 teams, we'll follow suit."

Anyone else think maybe the players really ought to wake up now from their little fantasy world?

Yes.  Right or wrongs aside, at this point I agree with you Brent - the players lost.

If they don't cave at this point, they are going to lose their jobs to scabs next year.  Hockey will be a visibly shakier game, but fans don't tend to support "greedy players" any more than they like supporting "greedy owners", it's just that "greedy owners" can get the game going again with scabs and the game is what the fans really want.

The players at this point can't give the fans anything... unless you get European League games on satellite TV.   :P

Back to my regularily scheduled NHL nap...

Any guesses as to how much this bad boy is going to set up back?  I'd guess $60CDN, considering the OTC 12" were $40CDN.

From the Hasbro Toy Fair Press Release... Approximate Retail Price: $49.99 (in the USA).  I'd expect a bit more at the e-tailers, but should be close to $50 at TRU/Target/Wally.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Grievous' Wheel Bike
« on: March 7, 2005, 11:14 PM »
The included Grevious sucks. But the preview Grevious doesn't fit in the drivers seat any better either. The pack-in Grevious only has six points of articulation (no knee or elbow joints of any kind) and it just TOO white. There's no marks or "dirtiness" to the figure - in other words, the pain job stinks.

Here's a comparison shot of the two figures (sorry it's not better)

Yeah, once I had this Grievous figure in hand, I too was really impressed by his "suck" factor.  I guess I don't mind because we are getting other better General Grievous figures, but it would have been nice if the Wheel Bike figure would have at least matched the other one in terms of coloration...  ::)

I'll be interested to see pics of the red version

Here's one that popped up on eBay today...

Hey how come he looks like he is a different color?

See Pete_Fett's Post above yours.   ;)

Well - this droid is supposed to be R4-P17, the same droid that was only a dome in Obi-Wan's previous Jedi Starfighter.

Fortunately for R4-P17, she will be destroyed by Buzz Droids in the opening sequence of ROTS which is why Obi-Wan needs a new astromech for his starfighter, which is R4-G9.

Geez.  :-[

Haven't had much time for reading lately, but in the last week or so I started making a little time each night to plug away...

Up to page 801 in book 3, A Storm of Swords.

Definately more plot movement than the second book, and yet for each small bit of plot resolution we learn a bit more and more... seems like something much bigger is brewing and it isn't as simple as Fire = Lannister, Ice = Winterfell.

Good thing I stopped attaching myself to any major characters after the first book, as G.R.R.Martin has a fondness for offing anyone and everyone as he sees fit...  :'(

Jocasta's Reading Room / SW - Labyrinth of Evil (Ep3 Precursor)
« on: March 7, 2005, 03:59 PM »
Anyone started reading this one yet?

I don't normally enjoy the made-up EU stuff, but I do tend to enjoy the filler "prequel" books they've done.  I liked the "Approaching Storm" which explained the events leading up to Episode 2, and I really liked the "Cloak of Deception", the Episode 1 prequel book.  Both did a great job of dropping you off at the starting point of the films.

Anyway, I had a chance to page through the book at B-n-N this weekend, and it loooked pretty good.  I have really enjoyed other SW books that Luceno has done (The NJO Agents of Chaos Duology as well as the aforementioned Cloak of Deception) and after previewing it in the store, I'm definately picking this one up.

I couldn't bring myself to pay full price for a hard cover, so I passed on it at the store and just ordered it from Amazon.com today (can't beat 35% off cover price and free shipping since I picked up a few other books  ;)).

Anyone else considering reading this book?

Looks like Mark at RS was able to find a bunch of figures at Target today...inlcuding the Red Royal Guard

Oooh... it'll be nice to finally get pictures of this figure since we first heard about it back in January.  I hope that he's as nice as the blue version, especially the under-armor - I can finally get off my butt and do a Kir Kanos custom!   :)

Yeah, the plug-in droid on Obi-Wan's ship has a different colored head (more purple than the preview droid) and he has a different color sticker than the R2-D2 sticker from Anakin's ship.

I had the two ships sitting side-by-side last night, and I almost prefer the dark tones of Obi-Wan's ship to Anakin's yellow.  The dark greys on it bring the ship one step closer to TIE Fighter, much more so thatn the yellow.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Assault Vehicle Assortment
« on: March 7, 2005, 11:56 AM »
Target and its employees are slaves to the DPCI numbers - if there is a shelf tag/peg tag that has a number/bar code and that space is empty AND the computer says they have more of that item in, they will restock the peg/shelf.

...

This is why Target is leaking these items at stores all over the country -- because their inventory systems are telling them to restock the shelves.

I'm pretty sure the Collection 1 figures have the same DPCI number as the preview wave, so as soon as the Preview Wave sale/discounts end, don't be surprised to see those figures start to leak out early too.

Yeah, I agree.  Since Target did not give the Vehicles and GH 2-packs a new DPCI number, I'm sure most places just re-stocked the stuff when they had it.  Most of the other new stuff for RotS has a new DPCI number.  So, when the Target stockers scanned the shelf, it popped up stock was in the back and they put it out I guess.

Seems awfully strange though that it happened ALL OVER the country in the span of 1 weekend.  I wonder if it was a Target wide test of the April 2nd date?  Leak a whole bunch of stuff and then see what happens?   :-\

With a bunch of people finding this wave of vehicles this weekend, I thought we better start up a thread for this vehicle too...

I managed to find this one this weekend and I love the design.  I like the little buzz droids too, should be cool to see them in action in the movie!
